AI predicts material properties using electron-level information without costly quantum mechanical computations In recent decades, physicists have been speculating that, maybe in another hundred years, they'll be able to do this sort of thing. The evidence indicates that electrons act differently inside of materials, but everyone assumed you had to use quantum mechanics to measure exactly how they behave in different materials. Among other things, it means enormous automated factories, that already exist, can easily sort through every promising combination of materials imaginable, and AI should be able to master all of physical matter within a decade. Even if the physicists never come up with a theory of everything, the AI will soon figure it all out themselves, and laugh at the physicists.
