Stalin was an atheist. He was a dictator and he killed a millions of people in the Soviet Union. His fellows in Eastern Europe, China etc did the same. Where is your humanism comrades atheists?
Stalin was an atheist. He ordered the deaths of millions of people. The Pope was a Catholic. Several Popes have ALSO ordered the deaths of millions of people. (the Crusades) Hitler believed in God. He also ordered the deaths of millions of people. One's religion or lack thereof does not stop them from being a psychotic madman. You should not suggest that there is a correllation, because there is NOT, unless you want to go and dig up the statistics that prove it ...
Hehe ... if this is the best argument that the original poster could come up with ... he really is a sad knight.
Yes - Hitler was raised a catholic. Just for the record, I think he was responsible for the deaths of far more Soviet citizens than Stalin. Had it not been for Stalin, Hitler would v.likely have won the war....then millions more would have died too. A lesser monster to defeat a greater? Probably. The founders of the USA too called themselves believers, but it didn't stop their programme of genocide against the Native Americans. Not to mention the destruction of both Aztec and Inca civilizations by Christians.
the american industrialists that premeditatedly armed stalin and hitler ....think they are culpable ?
Atheists lack religious beliefs, they don't follow any sort of religious orginization or dogma. Therefore they aren't going to follow leaders into slaughter under the guise of some "god's will." It is easier for a christian to rally other christians or muslim to rally other muslims than it is for an atheist to rally other atheists in the name of some higher being. No atheist thinks there is some divine plan or destiny they should be carrying out. They don't operate on a leader or preacher's interpretation of some higher being's ultimate plan. You won't win their support by saying "this is what no-god wants." Unfortunately MANY people in history has convinced the multitudes of religious folks that THEY know what their god wants. And the people follow. It is rather scary, especially if you are part of the minority.
Zero, I'm here when I can and when I want to write. Now I'm here so look what I mean. Indeed I'm very joyful person and I like to laugh on people like you EVERYTHING IN MY POST WAS A PROVOCATION! Of cource there's no correlation between the proclaimed faith and the ugly crimes! I'm really tired to read so many ignorant and airy opinions like "Hitler was a believer - look what he did" or "The Church killed so many people" etc. This is so stupid and I was a little bit disappointed! Why? The psychological explaination: if I'm evil or just if I have a lot of agression I'll need a way to use my aggression. And I'll find very acceptable and rational motives for my behavior. Look Stalin, Mao, Ho Shi Min etc - they weren't a believers in God but they murdered millions and millions... Therefore I could like to tell you that there is not a bif difference between persons like Hitler (who was believer) and Stalin (who was unbeliever), or between organizations like the Church in the Middle Ages and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The aggression always will find a way to show its face even if it is weared with beautyful religious or ideological words!!! Therefore I decided to provoke you with this so incorrect post Stalin was a monster and there's no meaning if he was an atheist. Hitler was a monster and there's no meaning if he said he's a believer. That's the thruth from my point of view. I hope now you'll think about it. The Christianity Forum is for people who could like to share their thoughts about that religion not to "fight" with the attacks of the atheists!
I think that the main reason people bring up religion/mass murder correlation is because even though the worlds largest religion (christianity) preaches peace, love, and salvation it's followers have been involved in the slaughter of countless numbers of people all around the globe throughout it's history. It all seems very contradictory. The people that bring up those arguments are very well aware that the religion has been used to manipulate the followers of those beliefs, and are annoyed at how easily those followers are manipulated. They think it is bad because it has become an excuse or justification for the destruction of other cultures and people. In the end, in a religion like christianity, each member is an example for their beliefs, for their god. They only have themselves to blame when, on hindsight, christianity looks bad because christian men wanted to tromp around the globe destroying entire cultures for a little bit of gold. Sure, we all know it is motivated by greed, but aren't christians supposed to be better than that? They are the one's claiming to hold higher values, cliaming everyone else goes to hell for being sinners, claiming they serve the lord...
Because monotheistic religions are intolerant of any deviation of their set path, they (like nationalism) have caused more harm to mankind than most all "deviant behaviors" they condemn.
Yeah ... you know, you should take my response to be about as serious as your original post ... it, likewise, was just a lighthearted jest ...
One you look at Christian slaughters, Islamic slaughters, Shinto slaughters, Hindu slaughters, Pagnan slaughters, Atheist slaughters, Buddhist slaughters, etc. etc., it becomes apparent the one common thread--humans.
It's a mistake to think that Stalinist killings were carried out by people with a kind of active atheist agenda in mind. Really, it was done in the name of Marxist ideology, or a twisted version of it, which was more or less like a 'religion' in Soviet Russia. Belief in, and adherence to Marxist dogma simply replaced religious dogma.
Cambodia is 95% Buddhist. The die-hard Communists in Russia were Atheists. But to blame their slaughters on Buddhism or Atheism is like blaming pirates for global warming.
Atheists wern't using a religious message to rally people's support for their slaughter....or am I wrong here?
I don't know about a religious message, but, like the French Revolution, they used anti-religious propaganda to suit their ends.
My point exactly: I've heard of Cambodian slaughters. And I've heard of "communist" Russian slaughters. But not Buddhist and Atheist slaughters.
