The American dream is often associated with immigraion, to start a better life and be satisfied and content with it. I think this is wrong as many many Americans (now, OF COURSE I'm not referring to ALL) are spoiled cocky fat people that fill up 24/7 on fatty foods and drinks which in turn leaves them obese. Didnt America have an obesity epidemic? Shit, wouldn't be surprised if it constantly had one. What is it, high levels of physical inactivity or the constant eating of the fattiest, greasiest foods that Americans can find?! In terms of currency, America has cheaper values compared to over here. People may save up in a country with high currency values then immigrate to America with more value in money when converted to dollars, leaving them able to live a happier life where they technically have more money. My perception of the American Dream is - 'eat as much as you can in an imaginary eating contest against yourself, so that eventually you'll have so many layers of fat you'll never get cold and barely be able to hold the weight on your own two feet'.
I always thought that the American dream was based around consumerism. Americans are, for the most part, kind of like zombies; locked into their couches watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing gameshows, stuffing junk food into their mouths (anyone hip enough to catch the reference?).
from what i understand of the american dream, is that, anyone can go to america and aslong as they work hard, and lead good lives they will be succesful, that anyone can achieve great things if they apply themselves, and no office is out of reach. That america is a land of the free and the brave, which safeguards it's citizens rights and liberties with its constitution and seperation of powers. It advertises america as a nation where anyone can move to and with hard graft will be succesful. America gives everyone the same chance. this ofcourse is pure bullshit, it justifies a state where only the wealthiest can achieve offices of power, the wealthiest get the best education and can even buy their way through life. It serves to mirage the injustices in the system, and deams those who arent succesful as lazy or incompetent. the american dream is a joke, but it's the same in pretty much every nation of the world.
watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing gameshows, stuffing junk food into their mouths... Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in some miserable home, nothing more than an embarassment to the selfish fucked up brats that you've spawned to replace yourself. Thats a cool movie.
everyone's perception on the "american dream" is different. find your own damn american dream and make it the best you can.
well, i guess for those that are american, it follows down for them. but it is not all inclusive, because of the expansiveness of this forum. so, i really don't think it's an american dream, or whatever you want to call it. america isn't all that great, i'd rather be living in the u.k., honestly. but just make the best of your life and that is your "life's dream"...-
so called american dream is unamerican! a "the" american anything is. at least un the america i supposedly grew up in, what it claimed to be, pretended to be. maybe, probably, never really was, but that's almost beside the point. of course i really don't care what "the american" dream is. i dream my own dream and my dream is of everyone dreaming their own dream, not some bunch of arbitrary assumptions about what "everyone" is expected to want. =^^= .../\...
I agree the american dream is bad because it encourages looking without for satisfaction when we all know we need to look within
