The age of consent should be lowered to 13.

It's stupid and pointless to lock someone up because they had sex with a teenager. It's stupid, teens have sex with teens and adults have sex with adults, so why can't adults have sex with teens? Hell I have several friends who could go to prison for having sex with their 13-17 year old girlfriends, just because they are 18-21 years old. Hell right now I'm interested in a woman who is 17, but we wouldn't legally be able to have sex because I'm 18. My last girlfriend was 13 years old, and that was when I was 18 also. It's just a really stupid rule. There are people who have gone to prison and are registered sex offenders because they had sex with the person who is currently their wife, but they weren't when they had sex. Technically it's not pedophilia if they are 13 or older, so it has nothing to do with pedophilia. In some US states you can get married at 13. It's just a pointless law that puts good people behind bars. Who else would like the age of consent to be lowered to 13?

oh shit i thought it was consent for the forums and replied too quickly. 17 is a good age for this cause if 'an adult' gets their partner prego she can still finish school which is the most important thing we all do in our lives. you have to remember there are predators out there who would eat this up if you dont agree then look at it this way. Seriously though, it is hard cuz everyone is a little different. I was and always have been street smart and mature. So for me, it make sense to have a 14ish age of consent. But some would call me a weirdo. I think 15 or 16 is reasonable. It is in the UK and probably other places.

most states will not prosecute an 18 yr. old that has sex with a teen that is of the age of consent (16) but is still a minor. that is, unless, the parents press charges.

if you look closely at many state laws, in fact, the age of consent is 16 and...here's the kicker...if the adult that this teen is sleeping with is less than 5 years older than the teen, there is no law being violated. this is in the US, i am not knowledgeable on laws in other countries.

You are right, it is not pedophilia, since pedophilia is a desire and not necessarily an action. A pedophile that acts on their desires is a child molester.
With that said, you are right, it is not pedophilia. What you are talking about is hebephilia. So, it has nothing to do with pedophilia, but it has everything to do with hebephilia.

The reason it is not, in fact, a "pointless law" is to mainly protect female minors from being impregnated by male adults. Females are not autonomous, we are biologically different from males in that we must care for children.

Get over it. It's a good law.

When 13 year olds can support offspring, then have at it.

A 13 year old does not have the maturity to make decisions that are life changing. Sex being on the list.

13 year olds are great but they are still children.

I'm a no to this one. 13 seems too young.

Here in Australia (Western Australia anyway) the age of consent is 16. That seems about right to me. It enables teens who are having sex to legally get access to sexual health help if they need it, and for the most part prevents the creeps from taking advantage.
