So I was a stoner for a few months until my dad got angry and acted like it was a bad thing. He gave me this lecture as if people who frequently smoke weed tend to be losers and have their lifes going downhill. I denied that I was addicted to smoking marijuana. His reaction was, "That's what they all say".

He then made me sign this stupid contract where I don't smoke weed until I get a job (ironically, my father has been unemployed for about two years) and I understand the responsibility of it or something like that.

As stupid as this sounds, I finally admitted to being addicted to marijuana and the same reply, "That's what they all say" then he addded "First, they deny addiction. Then, they confess and want to make a change". Is it just me or is this whole thing extremely confusing? He makes the harmless plant look like fuckin meth!

hhmm I had occasionally smoked pot.. last time was like 3 months ago. Found this forum and been lurking in the hippie part.. then the mj part and what I discovered, threads of people telling their storys of stealing, car shopping, getting into open garages... Then other threads about them telling they had been caught by their parents etc.. then threads were they say they are on probation and if they are found or fail a test they go to jail... And most of them admit they are addicted. I know not everyone is like this.. but in my opinion not, worth it. Just leave pot man.

meh. the people you find on an internet forum cannot possibly be a fair sample size.

I've been smoking weed for many years. I've had to stop at various times, with no problem.

Those who allow weed to become a problem in their lives would allow ANYTHING to be a problem.

What weed does and doesn't do to you and the psychology and practical aspects of why you should or shouldn't take it is very complex subject. It's probably not even reducible to words given that it almost completely depends on the particular individual concerned and not generalized psychological and physiological human conditions. That's why people tend to take extremes - it's either deadly or harmless.

I was a trouble maker before I started smoking weed. Started getting in trouble with cops and shit around 14, started smoking around 15 or 16.

Correllation does not mean causation. people who are more likely to break laws or be a burden on society in other fashions are also more likely to use drugs or smoke pot or abuse alcohol, doesnt mean the vices brought about those characteristics. They were already there. Nobody starts smoking pot and just turns into a felon.

Matt's right. Besides, too many different varieties of people smoke pot for countless different reasons...there's no way to pin something on the drug. That's like saying that everybody in the United States is the same person.
