Hey Sistas! I was just wondering if any of you had any special "rituals" for when you are having your period. I want to get more in touch with my body and be more accepting of it. Any ideas? Thanks!
I tend to go out for a nice big slab of dead cow (mmm filet, med. rare, mmmm), but I doubt that's the kind of ritual you're looking for! As for learning to be more accepting of it, have you tried using alternative products -- like the keeper (http://www.keeper.com/) or cloth pads? I know it sounds kinda silly, but for me, just having that direct contact with my blood (either in cleaning & reinserting the keeper or in rinsing out the cloth pads) has made me much more used to it... I don't have that "ew, blood" reaction anymore, at least!
I'm with dawn_sky... go eat that cow! Whoohoo! (plus it will help your body restore itself a little better) I don't have any "rituals" with my period... my period usually consists of me laying in my bed dying... if I'm at my parents' house, I like to have a really hot bath, I find that it's really soothing, and totally helps relax those muscles. Treat yourself to something nice, like a favourite snack or a good chick flick - even something like that can be a good "period ritual." Everyone is different!
Yeah, that too! Actually, since going on the pill, a prescription strength aleve is all I usually need. Before, I would need something strong enuf to knock my ass out -- like a 10mg percocet. That's when the dead cow ritual started -- after 10-15 hours of extreme pain & really really heavy flow, I needed a major dose of protein! Now that I'm on the pill, I scheduled it for the weekend so that I can stay home without missing class... I have every 4th Sat. marked on my calendar & make sure to make no plans for that day! Being stressed, worrying about having to miss class (or even a test) always made the cramps worse than if I know I can just relax all day.
I take about 4 ib profin some direutics and carry on with my life.I hate it I don't even want to know it's there it's gross
My ritual usually includes hearing my mom say "Ow, I've got cramps", and then me running to the bathroom to grab some tampons to keep in my purse. My mom always has her period two or three days before I do. Which is nice, because I don't have to keep track of when I last got it. The only problem is that when I start, the pads and tampons are usually almost gone, so I have to stock up in advance.
On the 2nd day of my period I always listen to Jeff Buckley's "Grace" I dont know why... But I do and it always helps me calm down
My sister is a huge heating pad fan. My period ritual is eating a combination of salt and chocolate and drinking lots of water while watching a chick flick. My favorite combination os probably M&Ms and Tostitos and Charlie's Angels. I like hot baths too with lots of girlie bath products. And curling up with a book and my favorite stuffed animal (a frog named Elrond) and drifting off for a nap. Since I'm so irritable and hormonal during my period, I like to do whatever makes me relaxed and happy to counter any negativity involved.
hot bath good book and LOTS of soothing incense. I try to keep a special treat around... from the parking lot. really helps. if the pms is on the no biggie cycle major orgasms the days before help a lot. I also use reusable products and yeah, you do get very aware of what you are doing.
I always have a hot bath, and eat a ton of chocolate. I don't even really like it normally, but if someone keeps me from my chocolate at that time... I go crazy! Both always seem to calm me down. I also like to become a bit of a hermit and lock myself in my room listening to good music.
Heating pad works cause heat relaxes tense muscles; ibuprofen helps a lot; skip aspirin, it enhances bleeding. I hate to break it to ya; but PMS gets worser over the years; and peri menopause is a special private hell!!!!
I don't really get bad pms. Sometimes I get killer cramps though or a migraine. My bf can't even tell I have it based on my mood. I just got sea sponges to use for my period. I'm really excited to try them. I want to eventually get the keeper too, but I can't help but think it'll be uncomfortable. My rituals include: hot baths, heating pad on my back, eating fatty food- sweet or salty, taking aspirin. Is anyonelse get really horny on their period here? I noticed no one mentioned that. I need some action on my period always no matter what.
if I had cramps and my guy ran out of the house instead of rubbing my tummy or back I think I would jet out of the house first before he could-for good
Now why would you go & do that? Tossing all of his stuff out on the front lawn & changing the locks seems like a MUCH better option!
My ritual...Lying in bed screaming my head off and hallucinating that I'm having a baby. I break out the heating pad, as well. That usually helps, especially in bed because it really relaxes you. I've been wanting to try the Keeper, but mostly because I want to see if the blood really helps your plants...
I get pretty bitchy around my period, and I get terrible backaches. I usually crave salty snacks and chocolate too. So I usually sit down with a heating pad, a bag of my favorite chips of the moment, and I get as far away from my husband as possible (he really get's on my nerves when I'm PMS'n). Every once in a while I will talk my husband into going to the store and getting my one of those HUGE Hershey's bars (the one's even bigger than king size) and eat nearly the whole damn thing in one sitting. I am such a glut when I am on my period.
