I've always found it easier to tell girls that I'm bi and not guys. Out of everone I know, nearly all my female friends know from either me telling them, them talking or just figuring it out. There's only one guy, and I don't even talk to him anymore. It's like women, even strait ones, understand, but it just freaks too many guys out. So does anyone agree, can anyone say otherwise?
I agree...men actually do get freak out more frequently than women...especially if its behalf of a guy....for some reason women don't really care no matter what sex you are if you bi or gay or whatever....they are more open minded...men tend to me more closed minded in that aspect, unless it comes from a women...they tend to lear away once they find out another guy is bi or gay, but if it's another women they don't care and sometimes try to hook up to experiment or something like that...it's kinda sick....personally I'm a hetero, but I'm ok with bisexuality and homosexualiy....I really open minded in that aspect....
I always found that they either a) offer a threesome or b)say something along the lines of "*pause* Really? Oh my God! That's hot!", I'm like "Yeah, not really, lesbian means we're NOT GOING TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU"
i find that most guys i know feel they have to show this masculin image of themselves 24/7 and for them to associate with gays or lesbians means they lose some of the macho respect from their other macho friends. this is by no means going off all guys, just the ones i know. this is my town for you... on the other hand this is good in a way. like you, i find it easy to tell females i'm bi, so i do that, but sometimes i get the pleasure of telling guys i swing both ways and often find it hilarious to watch them squirm. i wish people were just more open-minded.
Guys are assholes about that kind of thing when it comes to other guys. They think all guys should be straight and all females should be lesbians.
When I came out, none of my guy friends (over thirty) freaked out, and they were all comfortable and extremely supportive, and only one of my girl friends freaked out. For me they're pretty much equal.
I find it equally easy to tell guys as I do girls, but I'd estimate I associate with 80% women. The men I choose to trust and love I pick carefully. They are wonderful open-minded people who would never react with comments about a threesome or it being hot or anything like that. I would only spend time with those sorts of guys. In fact, I can name the guys I've come out to directly: two teachers, my best friend Nick, Jeremy, Andrew, Chris, Kyle, my father, my brother. I have a much broader range of female friends, family members, sports teammates, traveling partners, teachers, coaches, etc...they've been wonderful on the whole. Unlike guys, their first reaction is emotional - more of a "how has that been for you?" inquisitive look, more "you could have told me sooner" than the male matter-of-factness. Women are generally more comfortable asking questions, are more curious, and quicker to make some kind of cultural reference or speculation. For men coming out, telling women is (I gather) a thousand times easier. I suppose it's true for lesbians as well...I simply choose not to involve myself with guys I can't be comfortable around. There's no reason to have a balance of male friends if they're all immature high school idiots. Straight women accept lesbianism in much more stride than straight men accept gay men. And for the record, the only people I've gotten shit from have been guys.
yeah i'd agree with Eliza. same with guys as it is for girls i guess... and i dont waste my time with immature high school guys either. and same about that too, unfortunately.
I'm bi as well. I am actually comforted when other guys tell me they are bi. It shows me they aren't worried about being the masculin man that society tells them they have to be. Kudos to you, my friend!
