I met this guy today out of boredom. We've talked for like a week online. The moment I stepped in his car his teeth blinded me. His teeth were like a sun against a foot of snow. Don't get me wrong I like pretty teeth but his were whiter then the kkk. Not to mention his carrot stick tan, which made him stand out like a sore thumb in winter. Which leads me to wonder what ever happened to natural beauty? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only real guy at a gay club or bar and on an online personal site. Such a pity.

The orange skin seems, well, weird, but what's wrong with white teeth? Isn't that the color they're supposed to be? lol

There's a fine line between "fake" looking white and natural white.

I HATE ORANGE TANS! PEOPLE WITH THEM LOOK LIKE THE FUCKING SUN! [IMG]

Jenny Holzer has an installation, SELECTIONS FROM THE LIVING SERIES, stone benches with truism's carved on them and I don't remember it exactly but one of them is about how you should never trust somebody who has perfect teeth.

You're right, people are infinitely more beautiful when they are themselves. Being yourself, that's a scary thing to do, and also why it's so damned attractive.

    Two words: Donny Osmond.

I'm naturally beautiful, and I find people who try and fail to be as good-looking as me offensive.

My experience is that men in smaller towns tend to be more "natural" in their beauty. Different strokes for different folks.

I guess. I think it's just that people have a bit less disposable income and do a bit more manual labour. These things combine to create natural tan and muscle, and to lessen the likelihood that the person will go to Toni & Guy's and spend £40 on a haircut that looks like two haircuts have a fight.

EEEK! Orange skin.. can't stand that.

Teeth are most certainly not naturally white. They are creamy-coloured, and slightly transparent. I don't like it when people bleach their teeth--they turn kind of fluorescent white. Especially people with really dark skin, because it stands out even more. Nice and clean, but not bleached please.

Just be thankful he only bleaches his teeth.

Apparently hydrogen peroxide finds itself in interesting places these days.

My Dentist and I had a conversation about these 'pure white teeth' and she said that is really rare anyone has truly white (TV Style) teeth.
That is to say - perfectly healthy teeth with nothing wrong and at their most polished are usually having a 'bone' colour (mix a smidge of yellow and black to white).

The desire or belief you should have pure white teeth is more attributed to peculiar north american 'hygeine myths' that somehow the whiter = 'cleaner'.

Example: Pure white Eggs and or Bread (neither have any actual reason or purpose to be pure white) but selling better anyways.

Blame advertising. It has culture by the balls. If they need to sell something and its only notable feature is that it's very white, they'll sell it you on those grounds.

Oh yes definately. The dentist and I did talk about how that works when they repeatedly show the 'successful' consumer with the teeth closest to whitest end of the spectrum.
(which they are not necessarily meant to be)

One popular commercial for (you guessed it) teeth whitening dyes actually shows the 'loser consumer' being shamed in public as she is rejected by a fabulous man when he sees some colour tint to her teeth.
She is shamed and feels bad about her 'impurity'.
After using the whitening product she then feels 'happy' and turns to the camera to show you a Dentists Shade and Colour Spectrum.
The camera zooms in to prove to you her teeth are now pure snow white.
She is now acceptable to the hunky man and will realise her dreams without fear of dying alone.
Shame on those with natural colour in their teeth!

If you ever see the Pageant contestants teeth up close you can often see where they have had them coloured with what is actually a pure white mixed with the slightest hue of a pink-blue.
    Then glazed with a vaseline.
This causes us to percieve the 'whitest white' (so actually its not pure white but a bit of pinky blue oddly enough).

Another 'Cultural hygeine' myth very common in the USA and even Canada is the unnaturally straight teeth.
I had to laugh once (or cry) when I was back from Britain and in Europe people tend to look more like natural people.
    Anyways.
The local health club was very popular with these sorts of women you would see on Teeth-shame commercials.
Most were married to husbands with great dental plans (drove SUVS, plastic houses etc)
They posted this 'Aerobics Club' picture and .. lol.. you see this whole gang of women grinning wide in the picture, and every single one of them has the exact same, uber-white, impossibly straight teeth lol!
    I mean.. its just WIERD!
Nobody seems to question it though.
Faces all masked in cremes (they call it 'foundation') and all with these purchased teeth, all with the same degress and variation of coloured and striped hair.
All eyebrows plucked to a certain shape.

..and those impossible mouth pieces in sitting their in their lips.
The only thing missing - Character.
    Where is the character?

...And you can tell that the less acceptance they have of their natural state, the less acceptance they will have of you in yours
