Hair is the slender, threadlike outgrowth from the skin of mammals. Some animals grow a dense profusion of hair known as fur or wool. Insulation from cold, protection against dust and sand, and camouflage are among the functions of hair. Each hair originates in a deep, pouchlike hair follicle, which contains the bulb-shaped root of the hair. The papilla, a net of nerves and capillaries that supplies the hair, extends into an indentation at the base of the root. Here, newly dividing cells force older cells upward where they die and harden into the hair shaft. The shaft has two layers, the colorless cuticle and the cortex, which contains pigment and the protein keratin. Hair is lubricated by oil from sebaceous glands in the follicle.
OK a short story about my hair: It's long. I choose to have it that way for various reasons. It took me two years to grow it to half way down my back. I went through a very short-lived phase where I was sick of my thick long hair and got it all cut off. It's all one length, no fringe. As for styling my hair, I either tuck it in behind my ears (or else it flops all over my face) or put it in a ponytail. I would like to be more adventurous with hairstyles. My natural colour is a browny red but I'm starting to get a few greys so I colour it a dark cherry colour. I feel a lot younger than I am so I'm not too keen to see greys yet. (Call me vain) The annoying aspects of having long hair are that it takes so long to wash it properly and then to get the tangles out. It seems to get greasy after one day as well, which makes me scratch my head a lot.

I love hair, especailly when it's long enough to run your fingers through and it shakes around when you move. I think I have a hair fetish! Oops, another one to add to the list. I would kill to have my best friend's hair. Mine is a tad thin, but hers is so rock star... it will be as big as 3-4 inches above her head if she lets it be and doesn't comb it down. I think it's so fucking cool, she hates it. I had my hair really long when I was much younger. Never got it cut from pre-school to 4th grade, I think it was. But it didn't look good at all, because back then I was more interested in playing in mud then in brushing and washing my hair properly. So I had split ends and all. But then I cut it really short -above my ears!- and I looked okay, but I missed the long hair. Now it is down to my shoulders, and a bit wavy, I love it. It's one of my favorite things about myself. I've been thinking of dying it black. If I do, I want to wait until after school pictures. Also, I'd only use temporary dye so I can try it out, and if I don't like it, I can vigoruosly wash it 28-36 times and it will return to chocolate brown. Plus, I'm a bit scared, the last time I used wash-out dye on my hair it was supposed to turn out deep red, but ended up being purple-ish. I looked like a plum head! In short... Hair is great.
My hair is really thin... it sucks. I can't do a lot with it, and it never holds any style. I do think it's a pretty color, though... It looks cool in the sun.

My hair used to be hella long. Even when I was little, I could sit on it. Then...I went to an evil hairdresser. She had her hey-day - cut it up to my shoulders - and I cried for 2 hours straight. *sigh* She got her $35 worth, but I sure as crap didn't. I'm trying to grow it back out. Its to the middle of my back now. She cut it back in December, so by this December I should have much of my length back. Thank the Lord for good genes, huh?
hair is such a fantastic movie..but very sad. I had dreads for like a month, and they were the best thing that ever happened to me. But my hair is still nice and very blonde and long.:sunglasse
I'm going to grow a Skunk Hawk since they're pretty and stuff. Right now, my hair is just short and curly. Not too curly, though...just a bit. I want long hair, but I live with my parents an my dad won't let me grow it out.
