I have read a couple of his books and there is a website for his organization. Just dial up Subcommandate Marcos on Google and you'll have several websites to wade through. The Indians of Mexico need a voice, Marcos may not be the best voice for Mexico, but until another one comes by, that's all they have for now. He's a constant irritant to mexico but if any country needs one, it's Mexico. The problem with Mexico and Mexicans is their constant renouncement of their Indian roots. It's no secret that the vast majority of Mexicans have a certain quotient of Indian blood, it could be 60-40, 70-30, 50-50, or even 10-90 but the Indian blood is there. No mistake about it. I find it surprising that the U.S. went through so much effort to eradicate the Indians and now we're letting them into the country by the millions from the south. Now there's more Native American "Indians" in this country than at any time in our history. When I meet and talk with Mexicans I try hard to get them to take more pride in their Indian heritage but it falls on deaf ears, they don't want to hear about it. it's an embarrassment to them. Here, in las Vegas, in the high summer with 110+ temps you'll see them with their long sleeved shirts and pants doing landscaping work, why? Ask them sometime! They'll tell you they don't want to look like Negroes or Indians. Keep that skin as white as possible. They see it on those Spanish televison stations every day, all that white skin and blonde hair, reminding them that if you want to furthur yourself in society, keep that skin as light as possible. it's been ingrained into their psyches since birth in Mexico. If more Mexicans took more pride in their Indian heritage, Marcos would have a lot more support than he has now. But that's not going to happen. It's the story through all of Latin America, hide that Indian influence, for God's sake, stay out of the sun! Don't let that skin turn too brown! The Mexicans are always claiming that the SW part of the U.S. belongs to them. BULLSHIT! It rightfully belongs to the first inhabitants, the Native American Indians. They stole it from the Native American Indians. And the Spanish stole the land from the Indians in Mexico. So, ironically, Mexicans (the mestizos) don't really have a country of their own. It belongs to the Indians and the subcommandate Marcos factions of Chiapas. The Mayan Indians of Chiapas probably dream of throwing the Mexicans out of Mexico and reclaiming their land one day. And the Native Americans here probably have similar dreams, driving the invaders out of our country, Mexicans included. I completely understand the masks worn by Subcommandate Marcos and their followers and accept it totally. Marcos claims he's not about to take off his mask unless the government of Mexico takes off its mask. It's a showdown.

Yeah I'm down..I love the whole maya region, from the Yucatan down through Chiapas and into Guatemala...the area is so beautiful and sacred, and should be preserved, the more indigenous way of living is continuing and thriving in many areas, they simply dont want other people telling them what to do or how to live...they're not trying to tell other people what to do so I can't see any negative side to their position...

I wish we had more passionate peoples all over the world such as the Zapatistas, so far their an inspiring movement...I haven't heard any news in about a year..but I was all over the region a couple years ago....
    Ya Basta!
