I don't know why but when you tell me to study and take classes in universities it inspires me more than anyone else who's said that to me. I'm 15 and I'm tryin my damndest to travel. I'm planning and training to travel the world as a hobo traveler but before I'd like to take classes. Thanks man! I don't know why there's no other replies to your video then me! Thanks again!
Great video. I'm on my 3rd straight term abroad and can't understand why anyone would NOT study abroad! I spent my summer in Iceland studying renewable energy engineering and Icelandic- both are things I've had no experience with before (I'm a sworn social science/Romance languages type of girl!) and did fantastically and gained a whole new perspective and goal in life. Studying abroad is about new things! After that experience, especially my homestay experience, getting to know all kinds of people in the small communities I was staying at, and making lifelong friends, I really feel that Iceland is where I'm meant to live again at some point in my life. I spent the fall in Oaxaca, Mexico studying grassroots development and social change. The experience was tough. The first 2 weeks I felt like I couldn't communicate with anyone- even after my 8 years of academic Spanish. My homestay situation was difficult, trying to navigate the social mores of living in a very poor, conservative Mexican city. I ended up leaving the program early due to some really horrifying experiences (which I'll write up if anyone is interested) and I saw the worst poverty, police brutality, and political hopelessness than I'd ever seen before- but that's all part of learning as well. I'd never give up that experience, even though I ended up leaving a few weeks early. I'm a much stronger person and a stronger advocate because of what I experienced and saw. Right now I'm in the UK just direct enrolled in a university in London and it's an entirely different experience. I'm living in a flat with 10 other students from the US, the UK, Kazakstan, and France as well as taking classes with people from all over the world. My other two experiences were largely spent living with homestays (I had 3 in Mexico alone!) and while I'm about to embark on a short British homestay, the experience of living largely on my own gives a whole new spin on things. I had the opportunity of either graduating a year early or studying abroad for the year. My scholarship goes towards study abroad tuition so I had to come up with the money for room and board, but even still, I'd never trade my experiences. I now know people from all over the world, have experienced things I could only dream of, have been to places I'd only ever seen on TV, and have found a whole new sense of self and independence. Right now I'm even looking at backpacking through Eastern Europe alone! The me of 6 months ago never would have considered it! Do yourselves a favor and do it... even just a summer. It will absolutely be the best decision that you make.
I'm going to study abroad this summer if my financial aide comes through. Can anybody point me in the direction of a good financial aide company and has anybody been to cyprus? Thats where im going i think.
