I mean, seriously, what's up with that? What's the idea behind being so flamboyant and overdramatic? If you're gay, you're gay--I'm cool with it. But I don't like straight people who act flamboyant/overdramatic either.

    What are your thoughts?

mostly because they feel that they have to be like that to be 'properly' gay, and some people are just like that.

Flamboyance is a harmless trait - I personally don't mind enthusiastic, theatrical people one bit - some of my favourite primary school teachers were very much of that ilk. However, I dislike the hyper-sexuality and hyper-sexual nature being vehicled by such melodrama when it occurs in gay guys. If a guy with an theatrical voice makes innuendo about cream in his coffee (it's happened before) I tend to think the worst.

It is bias, but not against effeminate guys, nor against flamboyant ones, nor against sex.

It's bias against having a verbal penis flopped in my face when all I want is conversation.

It's hard to escape that sense of flamboyant = improper after a while. You just have to sit down and work out what's what.

Exactly. A histrionic personality is not limited to gay people. Flamboyance is just another stereotype that gay people face. I mean, ever since "The Birdcage" came out... [IMG]

Did you ever notice how some gay people are often much more flamboyant in gay bars or other gay venues but nowhere else?

ok well im not a gay man. but i do have questions. ive always wondered, why, whenever i see gay guys on tv or movies and sumtimes real life, they have that lispe thing. like is that just a stereotype they put in movies and tv or what? id just like to know. also.... do gaymen think of themselves as females or does one of the members of a relationship act as the female and one the male? let me know.

The lisp is just a popular stereotype because its very marketable and, at times, funny. No, not all gay people have lisps.

And again, some gay men might think of themselves as women trapped in a male body, but many view themselves as MEN who are sexually attracted to OTHER MEN (hence "homosexual").

I'm gay, and I'm definitely not attracted to feminine guys. The "lisp" is just a lame stereotype...considering many straight guys have a "gay lisp".

Yes, all gay men have lisps, and they consider themselves female.

I've only heard the lisp thing on TV in movies, never in real life. It's a stereotype. I have heard and seen gay men camp it up and act outrageous, but for many men it's an act.

There are millions of gay men in the world, so there is no quick and easy answer that applies to anybody for any question you might ask. Most gay men don't think of themselves as female. There are lots of gay relationships where the people involved don't think of one being the female and one being the male.

In other words, don't assume anything. Gay people are as different from each other as people who aren't gay are different from each other. The more gay men you meet, the more you are struck by the diversity of us all.

I've heard the lisp thing once in real life, and that was from an incredibly straight man. It's just a silly stereotype that's way overused

Yes, I prefer other methods of letting potential partners know you're gay:

are you kidding me? I know plenty of those kinds of gays. My best friend is one of them, and I'm borderline. A lot of them are in the fashion industry, like me. To us, life IS one big catwalk lol. *vogue*
