I'm reading Pet Sematary right now, and it's sooo good.
I read The Shining last semester. It was amazing.

    Any others?

If you haven't already seen Stanley Kubrick's movie based on "The Shining" you should rent it immediately.

I think King ran out of steam sometime in the late '80's, so I've read very little of his recent work. But the uncut version of "The Stand" is his masterpiece and easily one of the major achievements of 20th Century popular fiction. Just about everything published before "It" is worth reading for pleasure.

    Oh awesome!
Yeah, "It" is probably one I should read after "Pet Semetary."

I haven't seen the movie yet D=. I think the movie might suck after I've already read the book. The books are always better.

Just finished 'Desperation'. Also, there's one called 'The Stand', which is a great book.

Desperation: An evil spirit gets inside of people in a small town and use the bodies to kill everyone. But some end up inside the town and try and get out.

The Stand: A virus breaks out of a secret government lab and wipes out of the population.

I really liked some of his short stories - Mrs Todd's Shortcut, The Mist, etc.

stephen king has never been able to speak to me. i have tried to read several of his books and, they just don't speak to me; i only can read a few pages before my motaivtion dies. to me his works are shit, yet most people like him. different strokes for different folks i guess.

now, one hell of a great horror writer to me is john skipp, the father of splatterpunk. his new book 'jake's wake is quite damn good!
and, yet, again, different strokes for different folks.

I am also reading The Dark Tower series, I'm on book 6. My goal is to read all the books that tie into it, so far I've read Hearts In Atlantis, Eyes of The Dragon, and Insomnia. the next I want to find is Everything's Eventual.

Insomnia is one of my favorite books now. It expands on the Dark Tower in such an in-depth way. People complain that it's slow/too long, but it takes time to develop characters, and all the the stuff in the beginning before the "main events" is interesting, makes you think about life and death in a different way.

I think most of his books suck, but the ones that I've found to be worth reading (sometimes again and again) are The Stand, It, and Hearts in Atlantis. And those books are far better than the movies!

I am an old and long-time Stephen King fan - the single only book he wrote that I just simply could Not read was Deloris Clairborne (I'm pretty sure that was the name)...

Right now I'm just starting on Duma Key, and his writing is in top-form, imho anyway. :)

I loved The Stand, Insomnia, It, Tommyknockers and the Tower series the most...I think.
Yay Stephen King! (and Tabitha King, his wife, too)

Oh! I JUST borrowed the shining from a buddy today. Gonna start it tonite in bed. I thought the movie kinda sucked but King's book are very hard to put into movies since more than 1/2 of the book takes place inside of your head. Makes it hard to understand what's going on.
The stand and Bag of Bones were my 2 fav of his though. Talk about creepy! lol
I also thought Cell was an interesting twist on the old zombie idea.

I am close to half way through the book already... OMG I am hooked.
King's books take a bit to get into but once you get there - there's no putting it down! lol

I've only read Pet Cemetery. It was a pretty good read. Always meant to read more of his stuff, but it keeps getting put on the back burner.

For those of you reading the dark tower series, do yourselves a favor and quit at the fourth volume. Honestly, the story goes way downhill from five and up.

And I think some of my tops are actually Bachman books. Blaze was killer, and Rage was a good read. His short stories tend to be much, much better, as he likes to drone on like no other writer. I thought Just After Sunset was good, N. being one of the better stories.

I read most of his books a while back, haven't been reading his work much as of late. He's been pumping out books for a very long time; it's all too easy to get tired of the King.

I would highly recommend The Stand. I haven't read the book, just seen the 6 hour long movie...however it was AMAZING.
