I got my pill from Planned Parenthood and they told me there, it's also on the website, that you can start the pill on any day of your cycle and be protected after 7 days. I pretty much NEED this to be true. Lot's of sites say you need to take it for at least a month, but I think that info is way outdated. Does anyone know? Will I be protected after 7 days?
It takes at least a month.. I've been on the pill countless times on and off and am starting it again as soon as I get my period again (I was recently diagnosed with PCOS, so it's not a matter of preventing pregnancy, but they still talk to you about it). Wait a full cycle. Until a full month or cycle has passed, use a condom in conjunction with your birth control. And always use a condom with strangers regardless!
I haven't been on BC in several years so maybe the concensus has changed since then, but my doctor told me it took a month and to wear a condom until then.
Can anyone tell me why this discrepancy exists? The pill instructions tell me I only have to use backup birth control the first 7 days and that's only if I don't start on the first day of my period. If I do start on that first day, it says I don't need any backup at all. Why is there conflicting information?
Better safe than sorry. If i were you, i´d wait a month before skipping the condom, no matter the instructions.
The only thing I've heard is 7 days, from doctors and pill instructions and it has worked for me. But if there is conflicting info perhaps it's based on the type of oral contraceptive? If you have any doubt, then you can just use a condom for a month. But wow, never heard of that, and I've been using BC for a while.
I may not have to worry about this anymore (do I hear an inner YAY), but I'll never forget my endless years of "the pill". I would go on and off for a time; but for the better part of 30 yrs, I was on the pill. You are fooling yourself to think you are "covered" if you are on it less than a month. You have got to go through a whole cycle, (brief) period and all and start as prescribed on the next month's before you are truly "covered". Not for myself, but I know too many women that can testify with either children or abortions thinking MISTAKENLY they were covered. Hate to be a downer; but that's the truth.
I've got Trinessa. (please don't tell me about all the horror stories about side effects. I've read enough about them. :sad To be more clear, I have not read conflicting information about this specific pill, only the pill in general. I realize that directions could vary from pill to pill, but all of the sites I've read just say "the pill" or some say "the combination pill." None specify that certain pills require this and others require that. I should just stay off the net and trust the clinic and the pill package. I'm wondering if they (whoever "they" is) assume that women will have trouble remembering to take it properly for the first month, since it's something new, so they suggest waiting a full month to make up for any forgotten or late pills.
As you figured out there are many different kinds of contraception pills. In general they work the same way, that's why you usually only hear about "the pill". Different pills have different active ingredients, so they also have different instructions (side effects, consumption regime,....you get the point). Most say to use another form of contraception for the first month or 14 days. If your pill package says you are safe from 7th day on, than that's it ( as long as you take your pills regularly).
first of all, why do you absolutely need this to be the case? did you barely make it 7 days without sex. nice self control there lol. enough of my rudeness... you can look at your own specific medication information. my pill (loestrin fe) is something liek 80% effective after ten days. sounds like you shouldve got some plan B b/c you slipped up???
