Star Wars vs. Star Trek

Discussion in 'Sci-Fi Movies' started by Lying in a field, Mar 24, 2006.

  1. Well, which one is superior?

I'm inclined to be utterly bored by star trek but maybe i haven't given it a chance. Yoda is my spiritual hero, so I coudln't ever break my alleigance to with George Lucas.

    What do you think?

I Think Mr. Lucas Needs To Do More Acid Like He Did In The Late 70s And 80s.

Star Trek, most definitely. Star Wars just ripped off Dune.
    Seriously. Look at it:

    Desert Planet: Tatooine VS Arrakis
Sand People: Tusken Raiders VS Fremen

having trouble keeping thoughts coheerent at the moment, but i'm voting Star Trek, minus the Nemesis movie. That sucked.

Yea, the plot, and the style are both exactly the same too.

hell, star trek takes place in space, fuckers are ripping off star wars, and fuckin aladin is an animated movie, they mustve ripped off snow fucking white.

I don't even care if it was inspired by Dune. Dune is great, Star Wars is great as well. I also like Star Trek once in a while, I even used to watch Voyager. But solutions like the translation device in Star Trek, so that the whole galaxy can understand each other (to fit one episode in an hour or so), even races that never met eachother before or are of the strangest breeds, are just lame.
I'm not saying Star Wars doesn't have unbelievable aspects, but that thing of Star trek just keeps annoying me. Also, however I like First contact, in Star Trek they timetravel all the time, like it's nothing special.

Star Trek gets my vote. The appeal of Star Trek is that it offers us a fantasy of what the human race could achieve if only we would unite. I read where Gene Roddenberry said that he firmly believes the human race is inherently noble and good and Star Trek tries to portray that optimism of our future. My favorite character is Jean Luc Picard from "The Next Generation". Diplomat, philosopher, yet can be a warrior when the situation demands it. And as one of the movies showed....so flawed....and so.....well.....human.

Star Wars on the other hand sure is fun and I would never say anything negative about it.

I love Star Wars, but Star Trek is just way better. The original ones from the 60s.

    Star Trek got my vote.

I like them both. Seen all the original series of star trek and all the Next Generation. I prefer the next generation personally. The characters are more in depth. I like star wars too, the old ones anyway. Revenge of the Sith was one of the worst movies i've EVER seen. I paid fifteen dollars to see that, god dammit! anyway...
Perhaps I only like them because of Han Solo. ;)

My husband is the hugest starwars geek and we have lengthy discussions on all related topics...I love the original starwars trilogy but was hugely dissappointed in the new three movies.. I feel that lucas should have had some one else direct them as he did with empire strikes back, and that the acting within would have benefitted as a result...but thats neither hear nor there... I am aware that I'm one of the few girls who have actually seen all six movies and know more about the planets, systems and species within and that probably makes me the hugest dork. What can I say... I have a jedi fetish... I'm not too proud to admit it!;)
That being said, I also love the star trek series, the original, the next generation, voyager and so on..Jean luc kicks serious ass and I had the hugest crush on Diana Troy... she is the perfect woman!
Anyways I've ranted long enough.. if you want to debate about either in more serious length, just PM me!

May the force be with you!:)
