Anybody try it? Everything else looks too scary and condoms are starting to piss me off. I'm on the pill, but looking for a back-up. What do you think?
Jesus, they're expensive... good thing I only see the boy for about a week every two or three months or so... The cheapest I've found is 4 for $10, with 4 for $15 being the next cheapest and the most expensive being 3 for $22! They should be throwing them at us at family planning centers...
I know, they are expensive, and they break easily. I used one, once and it wasnt even particularly rough or anything, and it had torn in half. Another time it slipped out. besides, I like to feel him hit bottom, and that doesnt happen with the sponge in the way. I am allergic to latex, so most condoms are out, so now I use these, I dont wanna say suppositories, but they come in bullets kinda like monistat does and you insert as far as you can to the mouth of the opening of your cervix, and they melt and turn into a foam which is a spermkiller so it isnt as messy as the foams and gels that drip all over. been using them for about six months and I have no complaints. theyre relatively cheap too, i think its a box of 12 for like 8 dollars, at the most 10. I cant remember the name now. Walgreens Carry them.
I was looking at those as well, but I heard they could be messy and oozy afterwards, so if you have anything to do for the rest of the day you shouldn't use them... I'll probably end up trying them anyway. Thanks for the personal review.
Well, Im sure the Ooziness isnt just the spermkiller , but Ive found that a baby wipe will take care of most of it. The only thing I didnt like is that it feels.. warm.. almost.. and its only effective for up to an hour. meaning you can insert up to an hour before and as little as five minutes to be effective.
Good to know. We'll definitely be experimenting during his next visit... I'm thinking I'll just buy a bunch of crap and see what works. Should be fun at any rate.
Jeez, I used them and felt like I needed to wear a pad for two days! Not fun. But not pregnant, either, so I suppose it works if you're desperate.
haha why did you feel like you had to use a pad? Im still using them and flush out about an hour after use. and its as good as new.. or well.. haha slightly used
I liked the spionge very much, but because you have to leave it in for so long, i think it may have contributed to a yeast infection my partner got but i still much prefer the sponge over a condom, as those have caused her more yeast infections than the sponge did
I don't douche. Is that what you meant by "flush out"? Yeah, no. Sorry. Personal preference. Plus I'm hearing now that the spermicide was uncomfortably warm for him... So I'm thinking he might have an allergy. Sucks, because that spermicide is in just about everything... It's getting frustrating, because I am SO sick of condoms, but he's too paranoid to go without a barrier method even though I'm on the pill (doesn't let me ovulate, doesn't let sperm in, and if those fail, it doesn't let the embryo stick... why am I taking this thing again???). Diaphragms don't seem fun at all, but they're starting to look like my only option...
How is the effectiveness of the sponge? I'm curious about this method of birth control, i'm way too used to the sure-fire protection of condoms. Is it fairly easy to apply? What precautions should be taken?
I can't find any!! At least none that are reasonably priced... I just settled for the encare bullet when things are iffy. When things are pretty constant with my pill, we just go at it. I figure why take a "birth control" pill if it isn't gonna work? The boy finally agreed. We're not really babies anymore, sooooo... Sorry, this has to be incredibly unhelpful.
