i'm realizing its really easy for us to get all caught up in the presidential election and forget to look at what else we can do. we need to act locally as well.
do you all know what other offices/positions are being saught/challanged in your area.
    do you know your assemblyperson?
    congressman?
judges, clerks...its all important. some of these people are career politicans and we need to notice them... support them or oust them now in the lower positions.
and this is how we take control of our government people!

if you haven't already, please look into the other offices being challanged in your area and offer support where needed.
a shrewd asemblyman can do a lot of damage to a community

Exactly, we need a grass roots effort if we really want to make a difference...

I think the first thing we need to do is elect national and state politicians that will give us our localities back. But yeah, I mean participating in your local politics is important, and I personally don't think that voting party lines is a good idea.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking... You can't just start making drastic changes at the top... I plan on doing my part in bettering the local government, which will then hopefully work its way up...

Well I've only lived in my state since January, BUT

    Yes.

    Yes Again

Well no, on that, But I DO know who is running for Senate, Congress, State Senate, and State Assembly. I also DO know about local school issues that are on the ballot. Judges are not elected in my state, and there is no gubernatorial election here in '04.

Here in Texas that is especially important. Except they "redistricted" the state last year to make all the districts predominately republican. Basically, redoing all districts to include major republican areas, and a small dem area so that the dems are a minority in every district now.

But this is Texas, so what did you expect...

Thank god I live in Austin, the only city usually that comes out with liberal leadership. Even they have their scandals though...

Sera girl -- haven't you learned yet.
    Liberals are synonomous with scandal.

Frank, Kennedy, the Colorado guy whose name I am blanking on -- Presidential Candidate in about 84, the governor of NJ ---- on and on, on and on, on and ooooooonnnnn.

    Oh and bill clinton.

Yea haha, so liberals are involved with scandals that involve sex and real estate fraud,
conservatives take the cake with the scandals that involve big oil, war, and stripping voters of their rights. Oh yea and they had Nixon, hahahahahhahha.

thats great, you totally got her.

If you actually think that scandals belong only to liberals, you are sorely mistaken. I think the bigger culprets are politicians in general.

Stop trying to glorify republicans. It's pathetic.

While I DO agree that republicans HAVE on occasion been involved in scandal, Nixon, Gingrich, Livingstone, and {Ryan?} the Seante Candidate in Illinois that Keyes replaced --- There is one big difference.

    Republicans Remove Them.

Democrats Rally 'Round Them, and then promote them.

    It happens constantly.
    It never ends.

Do explain then how we have Abrams, Reich, Armitage, Negroponte, Poindexter (convicted felon for lying under oath to Congress, pardoned by Bush Sr.), all cohorts in the Iran Contra Scandal duly restored to power and (surprise surprise) being rallied around and promoted by Republicans with waving flags and closed eyes across the country.

    Hmmm, interesting.

    Hmmmm. Very interesting indeed.
This is the best you can come up with?
    Promoted?
    Rallied around?

99% of Americans couldn't put a first name to any of them, and 98% of Americans don't have a clue who they are at all.

They are obscure, and totally un-electable in the GOP.

NOW, if they had been democrats....

LOL. is that the best defense you can come up with for your ridiculous and clearly partisan claims?

Just more died in the wool evasion of accountability for GOP corruption from its duly propagandised flag waving supporters.

The right wing, ditto blogs call names and make unfounded
accusations because they don't really care about anything
other than gathering power and money.
Grass roots is helping your neighbors and fighting back
agains't the greedy. In my community a company is trying
to build a 50 bay truck dock across the street from a
residential neighborhood. They don't care that they will
destroy the quality of life and destroy property values
for people just getting by. They are only concerned with
their greed. Well, we are fighting back. Attending every
city hall meeting. Putting up yard signs all over town that
say 'Stop the Dock' , handing out fliers at local events
and making it clear that we will vote for people that care.
Grass roots is fighting back and helping other people
    and protecting yourself.
