Anyone know any pop songs (mainly from classic rock) about god, or religion...? I tried this on the music forum, but i figured id give it a go here as well...Thanks in advance...
Look through CCR's catalog. King's X is prog rock. Very good. Not hard to listen to. They're all Christians but won't call themselves Christian rock. They're just a band of people with similar interests. And they're not preachy at all. Nor do they always talk about God. And the bassist plays a friggin 12-string! They're on tour right now, too. Matisyahu, the Hasidic Reggae superstar, is my new favorite musician. He has free mp3 songs on his site and is totally focused on God, in a mystical way sometimes. He found his way back to Judaism through reggae music, all the talk about Zion and quoting of psalms. He has an mp3 interview about his journey. I can't give a short answer about anything. Sorry. Oh... http://www.hasidicreggae.com/ Nick Cave occasionally writes songs about God. Sometimes they're sarcastic, or pleading, or accusatory; he's covered a lot of territory. Oh, and religion. God Is In The House is about this little town with a perfect fence and they don't allow anyone they don't consider okay around and they just stay in their nice church all the time praying and ignoring reality. Least that's how I read it.

One of us (Joan Osborne) If God had a name what would it be? And would you call it to his face? If you were faced with Him in all His glory What would you ask if you had just one question? 1-And yeah, yeah, God is great Yeah, yeah, God is good yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah What if God was one of us? Just a slob like one of us Just a stranger on the bus Tryin' to make his way home? If God had a face what would it look like? And would you want to see if, seeing meant That you would have to believe in things like heaven And in Jesus and the saints, and all the prophets? (repeat 1, 1) Back up to heaven all alone No, nobody calling on the phone No, just tryin' to make his way home Nobody calling on the phone 'Cept for the Pope maybe in Rome
