Oh yeah, nothing against Americans (except their government), but sometimes, when I read some threads, I don't know what those Americans find funny about something.. To Europeans, I mostly understand, but Americans are .. another world for me, sometimes..

Did you ever have this feeling too?

I don´t understand a lot of people -apart from their nationality!

It´s just a whole different culture...not better or worse...just different!
I can´t do anything with the so called "american way of life" at all. But I don´t care what most of the people do anyway! So I have my Bhakti way of life -and that´s what matters!

Cultural clashes are fine when it doesn't involve wars and greed, then it becomes rather more serious requiring greater motivation and actions... how does the world go about educating the Ignorant Americans? By wiping out ignorance from there own societies, America is not a threat by itself, we all make it what it is... you have to question your own actions moment by moment, look at all that you do and constantly seek to improve... Do you drink Coca-cola?

Any product of the Coca-cola company must be avoided like the plague... Coca-cola makes many products, if it says Coca-cola anywhere on the package/can/bottle (look at the smallprint) then don't buy it. http://colombiasolidarity.org.uk/

I think it is fair to say we are all ignorant by degrees, we all have to learn, the process of knowledge is a filtration process, the more we learn and understand as individuals the more we all learn and understand. http://colombiasolidarity.org.uk/

To be honest I think alot of America humour is quite dry. Most of them like Seinfeld and he's painfully unfunny. Still, everyone to their own.

Quite, I agree completely, I hope my comments were not seen as being anti-Americans as I think I stated clearer in a different thread... I was referring to America from a political perspective, the right wing narrow minded perspective that currently holds power...

Now I am thinking of an American called Allen Ginsberg's and his poetry titled 'America'.

a friend of mine is American and when he speaks, I can understand him clearly. This guy is the best example to give up all your prejudices against "the" American.
But when I`m trying to read some threads here in the forum I capitulate very often very soon. I really don`t know, what they are talking about.

Well, Americans are people like all people... Noone is identical to the other. I knew good people, bad people, more informed, less informed... Yes there are some cultural differencies, but not as large as some European would like to think. And there are educational differencies. Usualy, Americans hardly notice what is going on in the rest of the world. But we can see educational differencies here, inside Europe. I noticed many Western Europeans are less informed and more practical, exactly like the Americans, compaired to Central and Eastern Europeans who, because for a long time they couldn't easily travel and their school were more about theoretical information, absorbed much more general information. But, on another hand, I believe from this point of view, Africans could consider us and Americans just alike.

About polithics, well I don't think the right wing now in power is the only to blame. Remember what Clinton's left wing did: Ruby Ridge, Waco, the savage bombing of Serbia (no matter what Serbs did or not, the bombing was savage). The problem is the US are an empire and they act like one.

OK, I don't drink Coke or other light drinks produced by the same company or other similar companies. Palinka, wine and beer are just too good. And so is coffee.

Well, I don't think many of the americans around here are like that, but I think I know what you mean. I might be wrong, but my impression is that, what americans in general think is funny is stupid things like Jack Ass - the more stupid, the more funny. But the Jack-ass-guys got courage, they wear cool sunglasses, and they're tough, and therefore they're funny, no matter how stupid they are.
That's just like american movies, which are supposed to be funny: there's always some tough hero who tell tough punchlines before he smack up "the bad guys". It's funny when the big man beats up the small man. American movie-humour is usually quite pathetic, because it's always the same latent black/white message: principles and ideals makes you strong, and when the strong beats up the weak - that's justice, and therefore reeeaallly funny!

ha-ha-hasta la vista baby. very very funny.

What's left and what's right is constructions. For instance, I understand myself as a leftwinger, and I can never ever imagine Clinton as anything else than a rightwing president. Less rightwing than the imbecile asshole in the White House right at the moment, yes, but still a rightwinger and therefore a threat to people who wanted just to be people.

yeah it's true... most americans are really ignorant and find jokes that stereotype people funny. i hate those kinds of jokes! lol i don't know what i do find funny though... actually i kind of like stupid movies, like Not Another Teen Movie, or "stoner movies" like Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. haha the jokes are so dumb that you can't help laughing. basically i like shows and movies that make fun of other shows or people. south park is hilarious!

Actually Seinfeld is funny. I just hope americans see, why it's funny. I mean - Jerry Seinfelds jokes are funny, because they expose banal troubles of newyorkers and other urban people. . Jokes about being a passenger at an aero-plane; jokes about visiting the doctor or dentist; jokes about how to avoid people at the cáfe. It's funny because, by his character he makes the urban lifestyle expose itself as the provincial and narrowminded culture that it really is. Jokes about doctors, dentists, or being a passenger really are not funny, but it's funny to let the urban character "Jerry Seinfeld" consider such banal jokes funny.
My question is: how do the average american watch Seinfeld? Will s/he consider such jokes funny in themselves, or do average americans watch them the same way, as described? If these jokes are really meant to be funny in their own nature, I must admit, that I don't understand american humour.

    love and understanding,
    noose. :)

Plenty of Americans are unsatisfied with their government, too. As for the funny factor, it's just cultural differances. Try to explain why people from different cultures wear different clothes. Same thing.
