I posted seeking a dog still in the condition nature had intended.. in other words, intact. And woah. In minutes I had about forty emails, each one a long winded speel about how I am a terrible person that doesn't deserve to own animals. What the hell? What is the world today where you cannot own a natural dog, untouched by the inhumane blades of man, and people automatically assume you're some twisted, disgusting backyard breeder who is condeming the world in ungodly acts of animal torture and irresponsible copulation?!

Because most people know that it is healthier for the animal to be fixed if it isn't going to be bread at all. Have you ever seen a dog in heat that doesn't mate and then have puppies. It is really sad. We missed getting a dog fixed once and she went into heat. she had a false pregnancy and lactated. Once she was fixed she had no more problems.

There are an equal amount of problematic issues in an intact animal as well as one that's been knifed.

We have bunnies and spay them all, and i feel its important for dogs and cats too if theres a chance they could breed. But i totally see where youre coming from with the "what nature intended" thing, and people were wrong to be so pushy if theres no chance the dog youd get would breed (way too many dogs about already)

However i also see the point about how the dog would never get to mate despite these natural urges, and i understand the torment this may cause. So youre right, there are problems on both sides

P.s- As an example rabbits who are not spayed have a much higher chance of dying earlier from things like uterine cancer, they say. Also we decided not to spay one of our girls but it only lasted until age 2. This is because she got into brutal fights with our other "fixed" girls and serious injuries were caused, she sprayed all over our furniture, pulled out all her fur to make a "nest" and was getting quite aggressive and obviously very frustrated

hmmmm, its a tricky one i'll grant you.
i am generally against breeding especially by puppy mills and the like.
BUT i chose (well over a decade ago) to rear my animals naturally, and that means for me that unless it is truly needed, my pets remain entire.
my cats are fixed tis true, but to allow my cats the freedom of the outside world i had to get them done as they are not like bitches who have set seasons, nor like dogs who can be kept close. my bunnies are entire save for my one buck, he was neutered so he could live with his laydeez.
my eldely dog is castrated, but to be perfectly honest if i could wind back time and not do it, or at least not do it so soon i would do.
my 2 bitches are entire, and show no problems at all during their cycles. in fact one is in heat now and laid here at my feet asleep.
tis a royal pain in the arse having to go miles away to walk, or walking at 2 in the morning so stray dogs dont find us, but a small price to pay for me to keep my girls as nature intended.
i understand that most people do find it easier to have an altered pet, and that is fine by me. i however think that nature knows best so unless i have to, they dont go under the knife.
tis a huge responsibility though, i must add that, to keep entire pets and NOT add to the problem. i am blessed with where i live in that respect.
and yes i know about pyometra, and mammary tumors and the rest. my firm belief is that most of these come from the crud most dogs have to eat day in day out and the chemicals we give them every month/6months/year etc. its sad to think that our animals are so unhealthy that they cannot even support their own organs for their lifetime :(
are people aware of the risks of incontinence in spayed bitches? of poor bone density in animals neutered before growth plates have closed (up to 3 years of age)?
i will always choose natural rearing for my pets.
i'm not saying that those of you who do routinely spay and neuter are wrong, but its not my prefered choice ;)
