my problem with the whole thing is related to description. i just don't want to feel awkward when describing a "person with more pigment in their skin than I have in mine" I saw carmello anthony come into the olive garden (when i worked there) and i remember thinking "wow. hes a really tall black man. i bet hes good at basketball. i wish i were good at basketball..." and it went on from there. i didn't even know who he was, but i totally called it. and i remember thinking specifically to the height, and not to the color of his skin.
i think black people have beautiful skin, and i wish everyone could see all the beauty in everyone else. i hope that we can move past the inequality, not just the whining about it. i hope that obama is the conduit for the american idea. we've been missing that, and most of us didnt even know it.

PS, i think obama is the closest ive ever seen to a politician like Mr. Smith. remember that? Mr. Smith goes to washington. my ideal politician. im such a weirdo.

jokerman, the problem is that it is still more difficult for black people to move up in america than it is for white people. less so than it was, but the inequality is still there. white americans can NEVER make up for the " faux pas " of slavery. never. not a check, or a chunk of land can heal the wound. all we can do is try not to pick at it. let it heal, and let it fade. maybe we can get over it together, but it might take a few more generations, and a dog cone thingy. you know, so we don't eat the bandaid

perhaps they have more fluidity, and have been able to let it go more easily. we (white americans) also didn't lock them up or put them down for as long as we did the black people. we used them as an expendable form of labor, and then locked them up when we grew suspicious of all people with angled eyes.

 

to be completely honest, they dont help that situation, and the reason it still persists is because they continue with their gang bangin (the nonsexual act) and being thugs that sell crack to their own to make their "paper"

First off, I think it's impossible for anyone who has posted so far to truely "get it" because we are all white. It's simply impossible to understand the feelings that come along with being a minority without actually experiencing it first hand.

I agree that by using slavery as a "crutch" this is holding African Americans back, but the wound is still quite recent and racism is still quite widespread in our country. Yes, slavery ended a longtime ago, but the civil rights movement was in the last 50 years and things are still far from being equal. Racism is in a totally different form then in years past though, because people are much less likely to vocalize how they feel because it is not PC, but a good chunk of people in our country still have racist feelings.

As for asians, they do complain about racism but it's certainly in a much less angry way. This is because asian stereotypes in America are mostly all "positive" (they are hard workers, intelligent, polite, etc.) And yes, we put asian americans through a ton of shit, but they have no need to complain for the most part because society views them in a positive light. Society still stereotypes african americans as ignorant and "less than" whites, and in some cases, individuals are certainly living self fulfilling prophecies based on the stereotypes that exists but is this the fault of the black man or white society for creating these molds?

i dont have aproblem with obama, i have a problem with him only being president because he is black. and yes that si why he is president thats why he was even on the ticket. i dont want to hear that he is qualified he was senator for 2 years and started campaigning for president 2 years ago, he was only working for 140 days. so i have a problem with that.

and to joker about the asians, they work hard and get past it. the blacks still hold the grudge and they are lazy and blame us for keeping them down when in reality its thier own damn fault.
