Smoking the Herb in the Real World

To the actual topic: How many of you have had to stop smoking once you've entered the professional world? Did you stop by choice or because you had to? Those of you who still smoke, how do you manage to pull it off?


I'm planning to be a teacher after graduating college, and I probably will only smoke very occasionally. I guess that you're also not exposed to it as much once you're out of college.

 

I stopped because I have had some bad experiences with drugs, but by all means - celebrate the herb if it makes you happy.
Also I think I am usually naturally high enough to not need any substances.

 

I am a professional telecommunications engineer and I smoke daily and I pretty much have for 25 years. I, of course, don't smoke while I'm working. (Well, usually not.)

It's getting harder to to find jobs where drug testing isn't required and most are pulling the randon thing. Ten years ago in AK you would find that most telephone companies did not test your urine, but now the trend is to test. I don't know if this has more to do with insurance requirments or if the corporate world has just bought into the whole thing. My company does not drug test and I've let my view be known that what I do on my own time does not concern my employer and when it does I'll save him the money on the test and tell them exactly what they will find.

Teachers don't get tested, at least those in California and Alaska here in the US don't. I've burned with several of my kids teachers over the years.

 

I am self employed

if I got a job that tested, I would quit for a while, take the test, then smoke

most don't do random tests, at least ones that people I know work at

 

The herb is nice. I will probably smoke much less of it after college. I'm pretty damn happy without it, but it really does add an aspect of poetic inspiration and creativity to everyday life. It is hard to describe, but I'm sure that you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Yeah, they have even started pulling the random thing in restaurants here. It's ridiculous, I don't know how they expect to hire any cooks if they drug test. It's great that you have an understanding employer, must create a better professional relationship.

I do not plan to teach in the States, but drug testing could potentially be a concern. It's good to know that teachers don't seem to be tested here... I guess they are needed badly enough to let it slip. I'm truly more worried about not getting caught as a teacher, having to buy it, and the general idea of bringing marijuana into my life after my college years. I do not really see anything wrong with smoking the herb (other than a couple of friends who are permenantly stuck to the couch because of their smoking), but I still do not know if it is something I want to have in my life.

 

I love weed, but i would quit if i had to. the world would still turn.

in fact, now i prefer to be clear headed for the most part. i still indulge frequently. but i agree, once youre out of college you probably wont be around it as much and wont be so tempted. i also think that once i have more going on in my life i wont have the time or the funds to indulge my habit, which is all good

 

That sounds pretty good. I really do wish to achieve self-employment or at least an ability to work out of home on something that I actually enjoy doing. I'm just not too inspired by business, even though I'm sure that there is a fascinating world in it. I wish that people could still make money off writing.

 

i used to smoke weed constantly...
but i hit a point when i was about 23 when all of a sudden my body became hyper sensitive to THC...it was as if my body forgot what it was like to be high...i cant handle it too much these days...once in awhile is cool...but i dont toke much anymore...

 

I like it because it gives me flexible hours. It can be unsteady, but you can also score big once in a while and live off that. Business doesn't fascinate me too much, but I find that they need me, and it doesn't bother me to do it

Yeah, the flexible hours are a big plus... freedom is a beautiful thing to have. I guess that some money in the pocket ain't that bad either. Maybe I'll grow up one day and will realize that I can actually make a lot of money and I might as well. Ain't gonna be today though.

Newspaper writing could be fun as long as it's an editorial or an opinion section.

 

i feel the same thing..

its strange. because i used to smoke a few grams a day at least. i was high from the moment i woke up to the moment i went to bed for like 5 years straight, but over this past year i smoke soo much less. now i get high off like one hit. and i can no longer smoke in the morning because then i feel retarded the rest of the day. it didnt used to have that effect on me whatsoever. what is this? bodies changing or what? its beyond me

 

i stopped because i think smoking pot is STUPID, it makes most people a fuckin retard. I hate how all these stoners think it's so cool to smoke, all that it's 419 got a minute and all that stupid shit. it seems that it's all thier is to them i'm a stoner i'm cool. Mind you i have nothing against pot i think it should be legal, but it's far from cool.

 

I go through times when I don't want to or don't feel like I can smoke for some reason.

And I go through times where I smoke and love it and wouldn't stop...

Lately I've just been smoking now and then and it's great... i wouldnt wanna smoke all the time right now... but its been nice the past couple days...

It's only if you allow yourself to get like that. And I know lots of those people and have known plenty more. Sometimes it makes me lazy... but I'm not really into that lazy, smoking pot every day thing anymore... and today after smoking I danced around my house for over a half hour and got lots of stuff done... I like those kinda highs where you're mellow but can do things and the day just seems like a nice, glowey day.

 

What you fail to realize is that there are a whole lot of dumbasses out there. There is a good share of dumbass self-procliamed "stoners" out there. They tend to stand out.

Buggy eyed awkward teenagers are not the only people who smoke the ganja.

You asked a question i answered it's funny that someone OHHH like that guy who has a photo where he shows his favorite thing to do (thats sucking dick incase you missed it) and all he can say is your fuckin stupid. Fuckin burn out choke on a roach and die. For the rest of you THANK YOU for pointing out that thier are more than just burn outs out there. My dad has smoked since nam and he's far froma burn out. my brother is however addicted as HELL.

It was a bit ignorant but you asked WHY i don't smoke and thats exactly why. I hate burnouts, if you use it responsably thats cool, but tell me you guys don't hate those kids that think it's SOOOO cool to smoke pot. You know the ones i'm talking about....
