smokin bud and givin blood

ive already posted this is the marijuana forum, but you guys tend to be really considerate and give great replies (usually) so ive decided to post it in here too...

alright, so i have the opportunity to give blood in about a week... but i have a couple questions about it because i smoke bud... so do they even want my blood because i smoke MJ? and, once they get someones blood they run it though all these tests and things such as HIV, AIDS, Hep A and B, and 13 different STDs... but would bud show up in my system? because if you come up positive for any of these things, they dont use your blood and they send a letter to you explaining why... the lady that came and talked to us didnt say anything about smoking marijuana and giving blood and i wouldnt want the letter to say "your blood is contaiminated with MJ" or something. they say the letter is "confidental" but if they send it to your house, your mom or dad could damn well open it if they please and i dont wanna get in trouble!... so does anyone know the story on this?

Not sure about that one...I know they often reject blood if you're on daily prescription medication, or if you have cancer or have had cancer...but as for marijuana, I don't know. Anyone?

 

in road trip they didnt let the stoner give to the sperm bank so idk

 

naw they wont care. i had kids who would sell plasma twice a week to buy some of my homegrow. i can donate, but sellin plasma is icky to me, cus they put your blood back in. yick!

 

just dont smoke a few days before donating blood. marijuana only stays in your blood for a few days i think, so itll probably be ok. and if they dont accept it just be like fuck you then ill take my marijuana blood elsewhere.

it stays in your system about 25 days. more if you are a heavy smoker, less if you are an occasional smoker. every thing else lasts only a coupla days.

 

not in your blood though. it only stays in your blood a few days, but stays in your piss for like months sometimes after you stop smoking.

 

i see.... so i shouldnt worry??.. i think im gunna give, and if they dont like it.. SCREW THEM! .. they wouldnt ever get any blood barely from ANYONE at my school cause almost everyone blazes

they're not going to test it for thc but advice-do not go in high I fainted and was out cold because I smoked in the car right before. I got really weak also don't forget to drink lots of water and eat before you go in I made that mistake and passed out before too. DOnting your blood is the greatest gift of all, I'm hypoglycemic so I can only donate it once a year now I used to donate it every eight weeks.

 

ive never donated blood. i hated getting blood drawn for a physical. and thank god i know im never gonna do heroin, cause watching a needle go into your vein is disturbing.

 

just don't look at it and remember that you could potentially be saving a life. Where else can you give so much in just twenty minutes? sure it sucks, it's uncomftrable and it hurts a little but I think it's something that everyone should do as long as their health permits. I am glad you're giving blood *high five*

 

WHO are you saying "Screw them" to? The blood donor people? Or the people who will actually GET your blood?

You blood may be used for a premature infant with ABO incompatibility, an old womyn with an ulcer and kidney disease, a person who was in a car accident and lost their entire volume of blood and needs surgery, a child with AIDs. You don't know, and you don't know if THC in your blood could interfere with their treatment or even harm them. Most people can tolerate weed, but blood is only given to the MOST sick of people, and they tend to have the least tolerence to drugs.

If YOU were very sick and dying, and needed blood would YOU want the person who donated the blood they gave you to have said "Screw them if they don't want it?"

This isn't about YOU or the blood donation people, it is about the SICK people who need the blood to live. Please give them a thought, and unless you have an MD and specialize in hematology and Intoxicants, you just don't KNOW if blood with marijuana metabolites will harm the patient or not.

I have worked enough blood drives to know they ask you before you donate if you are taking any medications or drugs, PLEASE be honest. It could make the difference in someone's life.

I applaud your wanting to help those who need blood, but if yours has metabolites in it (and yes, some of them stay in blood more than a few days) you may not be doing a sick person any favor.

THINK about the person, sick and dying, who needs the blood.

I can't give blood, as I don't weigh enough, and I take daily medication. I work blood drives as my "donation." Perhaps think about doing this, or waiting a month or more without smoking to donate.

Is there a reason you have to give blood now? Maybe wait.

 

I think a lot of people are miss understanding there is no danger in recieving blood from a pot smoking donow. thc stores its' self in fat cells sure there's a trace amount of it in blood but the amount is so minute that it really can't do any harm even to those with the weakest immune systems.

there may not be a lot of harm, but why would you do that anyway. And of course they screen the blood for THC. WHat are you people morons? With all the disease and HIV around they screen that blood for everything you could think of- a few times. My mom worked at a blood bank and they throw out more blood than she wants to say and its because people like you go in and just don't care. It wastes so much time and money thats donated.

Save them the time and effort and don't give your blood.
