I've had dreads for about 2 years now, waxed btw. I only wash my hair once every week or two weeks and I only wash the roots. But the actual dreads themselves whiffy a tiny bit. It's not mold, is it? :(

I do, I wash my scalp and the roots and everything, just not the actual dread. Should I be?

    well... theres your problem.
stop waxing and get some deep cleanse on them and start washing the main body of the dreads more often.

Stop waxing? My dreads are in pretty bad condition at the moment... but I'll take that into consideration.

Also, any good shampoos to use for washing dreads? I feel I should be using some kind of special one.. but I haven't been doing that. oops.

My dreads can smell a little as well and its usually because I've washed them and the water hasn't dried fully - smells kinda weird. Just clean them with some nice smelling dreadlocks shampoo or aloe. But don't overdo it

Well even on days I haven't washed my hair it still whiffs, but only a tiny bit. It's not major. Only if you really smell them. I'm hoping it's because I don't wash the main body of them. If so I'll start doing that.

Perhaps before you started this thread you thought to yourself, ya know I bet heaps of peoples come on here and frequently ask the same questions? Am I right?

And then, you were like, nahh impossible and proceeded.

But for real, there's a freq asked question thread. Should help ya loads. And by loads I mean.....

Couldn't think of anything to put there.

Yeah cheers, just I had a few specific questions and rather get to the point than just trawl through pages and pages.

Guess some people just can't hack reading through nine pages of very good information.

Besides, everyone says something different when it comes to dreads. It's got to the point I don't know what to believe.

PS, I saw your "I don't appreciate rudeness!" comment, that's why I agreed. Guess my agreement no longer stands after you deleted your disappreciation of rudeness.

I just...I don't get what thought process you'd have to go through to think it's a good idea not to wash everything on your head. I mean....sweat on your scalp travels into those dreads. Those dreads touch everything your head touches. Why on earth would you not wash them?

Can someone please explain to me how you manage to wash the roots/scalp but not the dreads? The dreads get soapy and wet from the run down of water and you know, gravity. I don't get how they aren't being washed.

Some are blessed with natural anti-gravity magic at birth.

I saw it in a magazine.

    This.

I don't get how you wash the roots without getting the dreads wet.
