After putting down my pens and pencils on the last day of school almost 20 years ago, I have finally succumbed to the nagging thought that maybe I should have another go at sketching and stuff. I am still learning but would appreciate any feedback, especially tips on portrait sketching - I can kinda do bodies and clothing, but faces, especially noses, seem to completely elude me.
Those are good, hands are hard to draw. Keep working at it! And for faces, try drawing a self portrait while looking in a mirror. It really helps!
Thankyou for the compliment and encouragement. The mirror thing is something I will try. I realise there is no magical formula to getting it 'right' but I am going to keep trying.
You should look at someone elses drawings of ppl and try to copy the lines and then eventually move on to ppl in photos and such. That's what I did and it seemed to work out rather well
I kinda skipped that stage recently and went straight to people in photos. One thing I have realised is that I can draw people I don't know a hell of a lot easier. Maybe I stress too much about getting everything perfect or even making everything perfect when its someone I know. Still not got faces perfect, but I'm figuring out that its not so much what you put in as what you leave out.
