ok here's my silly question: i'm thinking about travelling from the us to canada by greyhound...i'm wondering how long one can stay before getting hassled. thanks!
it's canada you can pretty much stay forever and after living here for a certain amount of time you become a canadian citizen..kinda like squatters rights i don't remember all the details right now though, you could look it up on google or something like that

the easy answer? An American citzen can stay in Canada for up to 6 months without a visa, provided they have the finances.
It is very easy to stay here as a non-status citizen if you overstay your legitimate time. As for being some sort of time limit that entitles you to citizenship... that is just false. Up there with the "you can always just marry someone"... Having to go through Immigration Canada is a pain in the ass. The system is pretty corrupt and outdated. One big flaw... either at the border... or when dealing with immigration here, the outcome can be put into the hands of one individual... and if they are having a bad day.... DENIED! Hard to fight... costly appeals... and one miserable hassle. Been going through it for years To make it worse... every time you apply and they turn you down, they keep the fees and make you start over. And it is not chump change they require.
