Does anyone have any advice on shroom hunting? I don't know shit about shrooms. I did chocokates once and am dying to try it again. I want to storm a cow pasture and yank all the shrooms I can find, but need to know what I'm looking for. I've checked Google but doesn't help me much. I need a noobs guide! :sunny:

Go to 4shared.com and download paul stamets book " Psilocybin mushrooms of the World".... or better yet buy a copy..... Paul is a great guy and should get paid for his hard work.

That is hands down the best guide you can get.

Where are you on the planet? Perhaps you don't live in an area that is known for cow pasture mushrooms.

The first step in hunting mushrooms is identifying mushroom habitat. Don't often find mushrooms growing on smooth concrete pavement for example.

I live in South Carolina. Trust me, we have plenty of cow pastures and I'm sure there are shrooms there. It's humid in the summer and warm in the spring. If I had a picture reference I'm sure I would be able to find what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the book title. I will look in up.

Read about taking a spore print. You can also google shroomery and check out that website.

can't really give too much more advise than what is already given... But a "given" here is: Always make sure to BE SURE what strain it is. Sometimes there can be pesky and very deadly duplicates of edible mushrooms. Best of luck to you in your shrooming adventures!

In south carolina you are going to be looking for primarily Psilocybe cubensis and some Panaeolus species.

here is what a Psilocybe cubensis looks like in the wild. Gold cap when young that turns a whitish color around the edge of the cap as it ages. Thick stem and usually found growing in clusers directly on old cow patties. The stem will turn a bluish black color where bruised and the spore print is a purpish black color. It is a fairly easy mushroom to identify and there are not many look musnrooms that look like it growing in a cow pasture and certainly nothing the matches all of the above descriptions. If you find something that has a gold cap, bruises blue, grows in clusters directly on old cow patties and has ablack purple spore print you can be fairly certain you found what you are looking for.
