Tell me ghostly or otherwise paranormal stories with me here and then I will share some of mine....I'm very interested in this topic and am hoping to get more insight into the surroundings and atmosphere that is often present when they occur.

Well when I was younger I had a pagan friend that used pendulums to communicate with spirits. I got a kick out of it, made one for myself, and would ask it yes or no questions all the time. If the pendulum swang in a circle it ment yes. If it swang just back and forth it means no.

Years later I was trying to find my husbands keys that had been lost for weeks. I came across my old pendulum im my jewelry box and thought I would give it a go to help me find the keys. I asked if they were in the house, got a yes. Then I asked room by room until it told gave me a "yes" for the bedroom, then I asked until it told me the keys were in the clothes hamper. So I start digging through the hamper, and sure enough, there they were. I'll be damned, it worked. Don't ask me how, but it did.

When I was young I was really into scaring people, and had a runaway imagination. Any stories of ghosts and such I could tell you would be suspect, because most the time it was me trying to scare my friends and then succeding into also scaring myself. But it is all good, because I plan to make a career out of story telling, and scaring people is my forte.

Do I believe in ghosts, or the paranormal? I am really not sure, but I LOVE to entertain the thought.

    OK, now I'll give one.

I was staying with my then girlfirend at a hotel on Coronado Island off the coast of San Diego. The room was in a newer building but only 20 or 30 feet from the infamous Hotel Del Coronado, a beautiful and notorious victorian resort that is probably 150 years old. At the timne I had no idea of its history, and had never even heard of it.

We arrived at the hotel and a maintenance guy was in the room trying to fix the bathroom light. "no matter what I do, this light will not stay on," he said and I thought nothing of it.

Maybe an hour later I laid down for a nap and dreamt that I couldn't breathe, I woke up gasping like something had been on top of me. I fell aslppe again and the exact same thing happened. I had never experienced this particular feeling before or since.

Later that evening the channels started flipping around randomly on the tv, I started to feel a little creeped out but didn't think a whole lot of it at the time.

During the late night hours my girlfriend and I watched the rather poor movie "the Beach" in the bedroom, as soon as I turned off the tv, the other tv down the hall 15 feet and in the living room turned on suddenly. I got up (naked) abnd started to walk into the room, as soon as I got within 6 or 7 feet of it all of the hair on my body stood up like had never happened before, it was like walking into a very intense electrical field. As I looked at the tv I noticed it was showing a childs crayon drawing of a human figure laying down with red blood coming out of its head, a public service message showing pictures drawn by kids in abusive homes. I turned the tv off and ran back to the bedroom.

In the middle of the night my girlfriend awoke with the same dream of being pressed down and not being able to breath.

At precisely 9 am the fire alarm went off ony once and woke us with a start.

Feeling kind of creeped out I ended up taking the train back up to Los Angeles that day.

When i got back the real creepiness really hit me when I did some research on the internet.

It seems that many guests at the hotel del coronado have experienced the feelings of constriction and electrical problems on the grounds that cannot seem to be fixed, as well as many tv related things have been reported.

During the latter part of the 19th century a woman with the last name Morgan had checked into the hotel. She seemed very ill and kept wating for her estranged husband to arrive. A few days later she was found shot in the head on the hotel grounds. It was suspiciously ruled a suicide although the evidence all pointed to her husband showing up and shooting her. The electrical irregularities include an electric lamp by where the body was discovered that "will not stay lit."

THis woman was allegedly "won in a poker game" by her hussband, and had travelled around ripping people off with him for years afterwards.

The creepiest part to me was what I saw on the television, the childs drawing of someone laying on the ground with blood coming out of the head...seemed she was trying to show me something.

To me, it seems that I had a run in with one of the most famous ghosts in America, a well documented haunting that I had never heard a thing about.

I thought it kind of made sense that she let herself be known to us, as we were a young couple roughly the same age as she was when she died.

well there are three interesting sort of paranormal things that i have happened to me in my waking life, four if you count my invisible 'pet'

i think i've probably told each of them somewhere on hip forums before.

i guess the best one would be the time i was walking along a buissey down town street in portland oregon, on the side of the street that was mostly blank dusty old brich warehouse walls, but all sorts of bussy bussy down town type things going on on the other side of the street and traffic, lots of traffic on the street, and people walking by and everything, just typical bussy downtown city street.

and i swear to whatever you want to believe in the is the absolute honest truith. and that i was wide awaike and not laying down and sleeping somewhere, which there wasn't any place i could have been there then anyway.

so i was walking along there and i came to a screen door. a wooden ordinary brown paint pealing off of it wooden screen door. the kind you would expect to find on the front door of some older house. but NOT in the middle of a brick wall in the side of an old warehouse accross an arterial street from a bustling bussiness district.

the main door on the inside was open and the whole context of the situation seemed at first odd to me, i mean about that door, that KIND of a door being THERE.

so i just HAD to look inside to see what the deal was.

well there was a bed in there, sort of like some kind of economy appartment sort of thing. and there was a woman, not unattractive though not sexily attired either, just very ordinary night waire, sitting on the edge of this unmade bed.

well of course my first was the obvious one, inspite of her sleeping atire being not overly revealing, aluring, and certainly in no way glamourous.

so at any rate she said hi and asked me to come in and said she would read my fortune, that she had studied palmistry.

this to my mind at the time seemed a bearly and only plausable explanation for her and her place being there.

well i walked inside but found no place to sit down. and at any rate she looked at the lines in my hands and started to tell me things, the details of which i don't recall, only the one curious thing that when my mind begain to wander, not to her or the city outside but to the sort of things that interested me, things like this internet that still did not yet exist beyond its embrionic birth as arpa-net, and using a computer of my own to do things like the autocad i have now, well the things she was saying started pretty closely fallowing my unexpressed thoughts.

now this was not a totaly new thing to me as i'd had THAT experience before, people answering questions i though in my mind but never gave voice to.

well she made us both a cup of tea which we shaired before i left.

the experience was odd, but maybe not THAT odd. after all people do meet straingers and become friends in strainge places and common ones.

what sets this experience appart is that about a week later i thought i'd go look this person up again, say hi, see how they were doing. just mostly curiousity i guess.

but when i got to the place where i distinctly remember that door being, there was nothing, only blank dusty painted brick wall that had obviously NEVER had had a door in it of any kind.

i walked up and down that street for block after block in both directions from where i was certain this had taken place, only to ultimately resign myself to the realization that whatever had connected our universes at that point had been a very temporary paraphysical fluke, and that place simply could not have been in THIS universe at all.

i'm not sure how closely that comes to anyone's idea of the paranormal but it is certainly a bit out of the ordinary that happened right in the midst of the very very ordinary clear light of day, that except for those few minor oddities about it, seemed so perfectly and utterly every day normal at the time.

that is of course, until i tried to go there again and found that there wasn't there and could never have been, but absolutely, postively was!

    =^^=

All of my experiences have been very subtle, and easily explained away with logic, lol, but i'm not ruled by logic, so i'll share anyway.

I've always had semi-prophetic dreams; usually very small things, that gave me that "deja vous" feeling. The only exception was when i had an extrememly vivid dream about a house fire (i can still see it in my mind, i was 5 or 6 years old). I was inside the house, which i didn't recognize, but i did recognize all the toys. My mom woke me in the middle of it to tell me that my cousin was ok, but their house had just burned to the ground. I had never been inside that house, but most of my cousin's toys were hand-me-downs from me, or shared between us over the years. I never told anyone about the dream, because i felt like i'd done something wrong to see it.

As a teen, i would dream about someone i hadn't seen in awhile (days, months, sometimes years) and then i would see them the next day. The coolest dream i had though was about my daughter. I was pregnant with her at the time, but we didn't yet know if she was a boy or a girl. Through the dream (probably the longest dream i've ever had), she shared with me many past lives. Long story short, she taught me to speak to trees, and that's what inspired me to name her Willow Sage, for Tree Prophet. When she was born, i knew she was the Willow in my dream, because she looked just like me, but with dark hair (just like i saw her as a young woman).

The coolest though, was when we moved into our house about 6 months ago. We have faeries! Before we moved in, i dreamed about seeing faeries. As soon as we moved in, i started seeing strange little lights (kind of like the reflection of colored christmas lights on a white wall) that would appear in the corner of my eye, and disappear as soon as i looked toward it. At first, i was a little nervous about our little friends; from what i've heard, they tend to be full of mischief. In the beginning, we did have some trouble with things disappearing, and reappearing as soon as they were no longer needed. Around midsummer (go figure) things started getting a little out of hand. I started seeing dark little furry things outside (thank goodness they weren't in the house), our son couldn't sleep at night, and unnatural things happened, like the lid to the trash can swinging wildly of it's own accord. We did a cleansing and blessing of the house, and for several weeks, it seemed that all of the faeries left. After awhile though, the "good" ones came back, and we've had no trouble since. In fact, our little friends have been known to help me find things (when my husband practices archery, i get sent out to find lost arrows in the woods).

There's one tree in the back yard that our son says a red faerie lives in. I believe him.

Alrighty I have a story! It's not as good as you guys but it's still a story! Well my mom and were at my old house and we always thought there was a some kinda of ghost in the house but niether of us said anything to one anthor b/c it was just to creepy to talk about. Well on my mom me and a friend of mine were in the kitchen talking while my mom was making us drinks. My friend brought up the conversation of ghost and I decided to say how I always felt that there was a ghost in our house. My mom replyed "Amanda there's no ghost in this house" as she took a drink of her soda. Right after she said that the cup flung out of her hand and kinda sat in the air for a second then drops to the floor. We were all kinda of in denial of what we saw. My mom was telling my Dad the story later that night and the same thing happened except his time it was a plate. For about 2 weeks after this incident everytime My mom or I unloaded the dishwasher a glass would break. And almost every day we would find a large piece of glass in my moms bed from the cup or plate that broke earlier that day. I never mentioned "ghosts again in that house" LOL!

I have told this story before but it fits so well in this forum, so I'll tell it again! When my mom was little she had a weird experience. She was sitting on the stairs and felt like someone was coming down the stairs behind her. She leaned forward, and instead of her blonde hair falling in front of her face, it was long black hair, like someone was leaning over her shoulder. When she was older, she found out her brother, sister, and mother had seen a woman with long black hair in their house throughout the years they lived there. Her brother and sister had seen her at night in their bedrooms, sometimes with a lantern, looking at them from the foot of their beds, and sometimes sitting on the edge of the bed, and my grandma saw her once coming down the stairs. We haven't found out if someone actually died in the house, but i'd like to investigate.

hmm well the person doesnt have to necessarily die in the house for ghosts to appear... usually ghosts or images of ghosts are residual energies of a person that used to live there. usually people or souls that were very happy, usually seem to hang out in places where they were the happiest. just think of a time that you were the happiest, it was probably when you were a kid right?? and you constantly think back at that time, your residual energy usually hangs out there..... why do you think there are so many ghosts in hollywood?? alot of people died suddenly there yes, and without any rhyme or reason, but most of those ghosts there in hollywood hang out there because thats where they were the happiest. its a good place to hang out in, dontcha think?? well if you were an actor, for sure.

ghosts that hang out in a house are usually doing the same things over and over again, like walking down a grand staircase, or appearing at the edge of a bed.... lots of times it depends on how your furniture is arranged. if you arrange your furniture differently, your ghosts probably wont appear at your bed anymore.

I first became aware of these little orbs of light in a creepy apartment in Seattle. I had been having a really rough time and was very isolated so I became friends with these two girls who lived in this old building, the kind that you could see packed with sailors 120 years ago, and was now in disrepair.

One night we were talking and each one of us were seeing a little light that would start in a certain place in the closet, then move up to another location, then dissappear....we all finally aknowledged what we were seeing, and it was the same thing in the same place, in a closet with no window.

Other strange things would happen there too, furniture out in the common areas moving when no one appeared to be around etc.

    That building was truly horrifying.

I was present when this promised sign from the other side was sent to my friend from his late wife. This happened at least 15 years ago.

I worked with a man whose wife died of lung cancer. She was a nurse and did not smoke. It was maybe a year from the time she was diagnosed until she passed away. Around a month before she passed on she told him that she was going to send him some kind of a sign. They are a very unpretentious, honest, responsible, devout Catholic family, raising two daughters. Then, from her hospital bed, a week before she passed on, his wife told him that she now knew what the sign she was going to send him would be....lightning. I have been to one funeral, hers. It was at 1PM at a local church. When we arrived it was pouring out, really hard, the sky was low overcast thick clouds, and it was dark like twilight. We sat down, and got settled in, and just as the funeral was to start there was a loud boom of thunder, and the lights in the church went out for a couple of minutes. My friend told me that when the thunder struck, he looked at his watch and it was 1PM on the dot.
After the funeral, we came outside and I was bewildered to see that now there was not a cloud in the sky, I looked around and could see nothing but clear blue sky. Everything was still soaking wet, and the wet ashphalt was reflecting a blinding glare from the sunlight.

    Nice stories!

I'll tell one of my uncles... he has a wood cabin in the mountains that his father built (who had passed prior to this). It's been in a state of disrepair for many, many years, and is basically just used to store things, as he has a van to sleep in. He was there one night, by himself, and was walking through the cabin to get some things, when he felt someone grab his shoulders and actually pull him backwards. It was right at that moment that a large beam from the roof fell through the floor right in front of him. He swears it was his dad saving his life.

    oo paranormal :D

Umm, heres a good story that happened to me that I always tell anyone whose interested:

I was still living at our old house up in Boston which was a couple hundred years old. The house was located at 267 Bunker Hill street. We all know of the Battle of Bunker Hill, although the battle actually happened on Reeds hill (or something named that) where the monument park is. Anyway, that park was just a few blocks away from our house. Our house was built before the battle of bunker hill, and we had discovered a musket a few weeks prior to this incident, buried in our backyard. We brought into the house and set it down in the dining room, and admired it and whatnot.
We were in the process of selling our house at the time, so my mom was taking several photos of the house, including photos of the exterior. Once she uploaded the pictures on her computer from the digital camera, she noticed a man staring out of my bedroom window, but accidentally deleted the picture a little while later. The man was no one we had ever seen before in our entire lives, and certainly couldnt have been my father because he was outside taking pictures with my mom when that photo was taken.
Around a few weeks later, i was in my bedroom and it was almost 12 am. I was half asleep, watching I Love Lucey i believe, and during the commercials i would go underneath my blanket and close my eyes for awhile.
Another commercial came, and I went under the blankets, closed my eyes, and I heard the show come on again so I came out from under the blanket and noticed that the tv was turned slightly to the left from where it was before. I ignored it, thought nothing of it, and turned it back to its original position.
Another commercial came on again, I went under the blanket, and heard it come back on again so I opened my eyes and looked at the tv. This time it was turned more around to the left than it was before.
I thought "ok.." and just turned it back to its original position.
Another commercial. I went back under the covers. Heard the show come back on. Came out, opened my eyes. This time the tv was turned entirely around, facing the wall completely.
I totally freaked out and quickly got up and walked out of my room and went into my sisters room which was right next to mine. She was asleep so I stood there for awhile before I started crying :p and told her to wake up a couple of times before she actually did. I told her my tv had moved and she was like "what?" and i told her my tv had moved on its own. So, she entered my room really cautiously, as if someone was going to attack her with a machete, and saw that it was facing the wall. So, we went down to the studio where our parents were sleeping, and woke them up, and my mom came upstairs with me to spend the rest of the night sleeping in my room with me.

i've never experienced anything paranormal myself and that's probably good since i'm very easily scared. but i would like to experience something proving there are such things as ghosts. oh well, you wanted a story and i got one.

this happened in the 50's when my grandfather was young and worked at a farm. he sat in the kitchen talking to the farmer and the farmers son and his friend was playing hide and seek in the house. the farmers son went somewhere to count and the friend went into a romm next to the kitchen and hid there. a while later he came out from the room looking very pale and scared. my grandfather took him up on his lap and asked him what was the matter. the boy told them he had hid behind a couch and waited for his friend to find him. he waited a while and thought his friend took a long time to find him so he peered over the back of the couch to see if he could see his friend. then he noticed a man laying on the couch under a blanket sleeping and the boy was sure the man hadn't been there when he entered the room so he hurried out of there. he described the man and the blanket he was laying under. after the boys left the farmer told my grandfather that when his brother had died they had laid him on that couch for one night under the very same blanket the boy described.

I personally have never seen a ghost, but I've a few ghosty stories.

First, my grandfather passed away when I was very young, I barely remember him. About 6 months after he died, my grandmother and her friend came home, and saw him sitting at the kitchen table, having a sandwich, looking as real as anything. They left the room for a minute and came back and he was gone, but the chair was still pulled out.

Second: my husband, back before we met, woke up one night at like 3am and saw a perfect ghostly image of a boy standing by his bed, tucking at his sleeve. About 8 months later, we had already started dating and did a ouija board session, and during it we asked the board about the boy, and the board said the boy was 8 and died in a house fire. (trippy)

Third: My husband's gramma's house is haunted. A few people swear to have seen a person hanging from a noose from a second story window, and one time my father in law said he didn't believe in ghosts and at that exact second, the ceiling lamp fell and nearly hit him. (eerie!)

My parent's house is over 100 years old, and at one time it was a parsonage for a church that used to be across the street. At my parents house, sometimes I would swear that you could feel a presence in the upstairs. Sometimes the door to my sister's room would just open by itself, even if it was latched. That always kind of freaked me out, but it wasn't til we stayed at this other house that I really got freaked out.
My stepdad's great Aunt Carrie lived in a house down the street from ours. My parents' house is a big old victorian, so it is ALWAYS hot in the summer. One night my bedroom was 101 F by my thermometer. My parents looked into getting a/c for the house, but were told it would be almost 20 thousand to do it. So they never have. Anyway, my grandpa owns aunt carrie's house, as we call it. He always keeps the power on so when people come to visit they can just stay there. The living room, dining room, and bedroom all three have beds and couches in them, that way there is enough space for company. That's all the house is used for now. Well it is small, so there is a window a/c and it cools the whole place. Sometimes when I was younger my mom, sister, and I would all walk down the street and go sleep there at night.
My sister and I had always said that we thought we could feel someone there, but no one would believe us.
Well I was sleeping on one couch, my sister was in the same room on the bed, and my mom was in the living room on the other bed. There was a tv on a stand next to the end of the couch. It is not plugged in, or anything. Well I was drifting off to sleep I could hear the hum of the a/c and I could also hear my mom in the living room snoring. All of a sudden someone knocked on the tv screen next to my head. It was a very LOUD distinct sound. It scared the shit out of me. I jumped and was startled. I whispered to my sister, "Rachel, was that you?" and she was like, "NO! I thought that was you! I was almost asleep! Quit trying to play tricks on me!" But it wasn't me. And Rachel was across the room so I know she couldn't have made the sound, nothing she was near could have made that sound. I was so scared, I didn't want to move, or even open my eyes. So finally I got up the courage to turn on the light and I walked over to the window (above the couch I was laying on) and knocked on it, thinking maybe it was a neighbor kid or my cousin playing a trick. It made a real dull knocking sound, not at all like the sound we heard. So I told my sister to listen and I would knock on the tv and tell me if it was the sound she heard. So I knocked on the tv and it was the SAME EXACT SOUND. So I turned around the tv to see if maybe a mouse got in it or something (just trying to think of any excuse except that there was a ghost) I really didn't want to go back to sleep after that.
One other night we slept there that summer my mom said that while she was sleeping she felt someone sit down on the bed, and she thought it was either my sister or me. But it wasn't. She said she could feel it get up off of the bed later too. Then finally when she was almost asleep again she felt something just totally shake the bed and it scared her too.
She believed us that there was some kind of presence there after that. Afterwards we always teased my stepdad that he should come down and visit Aunt Carrie too. He never believed us though. He had lived in the house for a while by himself when he was younger and never saw or felt anything. I don't know why the presence declared itself to us. I am glad it was just a little mischevous and not mean.

The town of Wantagh is located on Long Island, New York.

I'm unaware of its history, although I live here, and am curious as to why it is the way it is - which I will explain in a moment.

I first became aware of the supernatural in my own home. Seeing strange creatures in the house, hearing voices, having freakish and re-accuring nightmares. Some things I am not sure, because I was young, were dreams or reality. For example, my closet door swinging open with no one inside.

It didn't end in my house. Years later when I was older, I met friends.. and they too had similar problems with their houses. Freakish paranormal vibes, events, etc. All within Wantagh. One even had a poltergiest for certain. Now that I re-examined some events, as well as the descriptions for poltergiests... three other houses, including mine, have had one.

Once again - all in one town. This was just the beginning though.

One spring afternoon I was walking with two good friends of mine towards the Twin Lakes Nature Preserve we have here, right off Park Avenue. A strange but calming vibe came across it. Almost a sense of something magical and inviting, surreal. We stayed by the preserve for some time before entering it. Everything seemed so crisp and clear. That vibe remained... and we decided to come back the next few days.

Unfortunately, the vibe was not the same at night. In fact, it was quite the opposite. The whole preserve seemed to loom with an unwelcoming darkness, and a dangerously hostile vibe. It seemed to be in the air everywhere, almost pushing on your brain. So, in other words, the preserve became highly active with some sort of uninviting force.

Throughout the next few days we could hardly get in there without feeling we -had- to leave. We also began to spot shadow figures. Not people, they moved too silently and vanished from time to time. Anyone familiar with them? They look like they're made up of a cloud-like substance, a shadow, dark and very hostile feeling. They were all over the place.

At one point I stopped with a friend to peak into the lake, onto a set of stairs leading into the water (For fishermen). There was a ripple a yard or so into the lake, a big ripple, followed by a strange whistling sound that doesn't sound quite human. I assure you no animals make that sound around here. All we have in Wantagh are cats, squirrels, rats, possums and muskrats.

At this point we got a funny vibe and decided to leave.

As we were walking alongside the fenced-in preserve we passed one of the entrances, a simple opening in the fence. It was at this point something freaky happened. We turned to look into the entrance, and as we pointed the flashlight, one of those shadow figures actually seemed to attempt to grab me, but turned away as the flashlight hit it. My friend said he saw an arm, and a hand actually reach for mine - I was right alongside the entrance to my right. He was on the left.

    One freaky case.

To be brief now, there have been other incidents. Some such as loud banging noises in the middle of the night coming from the center of the preserve, a freakish faceless and naked man being sighted, tall white/cloudy beings, stalking shadowy figures and more odd whistling noises.

Right by this area is another place, The Railroad Museum. A simple little place. I don't know much of its history, but in the back of it is a small preserve leading to a road. There is a tunnel under the parkway leading into Twin Lakes Nature Preserve. I've used it often. Similar things have been reported here.

This all is in one town - Wantagh. I am fascinated by the activity happening here. Why? Did something horrible happen in this place to be so freakishly active?

I know Wantagh is off the maps for hotspots, but every hotspot has to start with someone sharing their experiences. I've been hoping to gather my friends together and do some investigation. Take pictures, bring video cameras, and any other ways to get some evidence down. Also, to possibly contact something?

I don't know. I don't think whatever is here is a ghost. But that's just me.

Please tell me what you all think of this. Apologies for the long post.

good post, actually good posts to everyone.

I believe many things have happened on Long Island in the past. I know that it was a special place to the natives before the Europeans came.

A freind of mine from upstate NY swears that he and his whole family would occassionally see the ghost of a hessian soldier in their house, seems that the area is active due to everything that went on their in the early days of America and before.
