Well, I was walking home last night and in order to get to my place of residence (I actually am living in a house right now!) I have to pass tons of rich ass houses. These aren't just like "nice homes" they are sooooo excessive, really expensive cars, mansions etc... anyways I had this thought cross through my mind and that thought was that I should post a picture of a starving/poor child (or something along those lines) on their door with a title that says "Share the Wealth". Do you think that term is appropriate, along with the entire ideal? Here's a few pics I'm contemplating putting on the paper: Which one do you think I should use?
And what exactly do you do to stop poverty? Just remember, everytime you point the finger, you point back at yourself threefold.
I myself am poor....well not as "poor" as some, all I own are a few changes of clothes and my trusty guitar. (well I suppose I own a djembe as well, but I'm going to have to leave it behind when I start trekking again.) I always try to give when I have, and try to follow the what's mine is yours mentality. I'm not perfect, nobody is, but still they have soooo much and give so little. Some of my best friends are "homeless", I don't consider them homeless, but society does. I've been on the street too (thankfully not to long), and it's rough. If people just stopped once in a while during their ohhh so busy day and did something for someone else we could end all of this. So, "What do I do?"...well I guess I try to act compassionate towards others whenever I have the opportunity. There's no self glorification in that either, everyone has their faults and I can be selfish at times too, I try very hard not to be though.
put that (not the onsie on there just the link to ONE.org) I dont know which picture I would put on there. You are more likely get more out of ta middle class or lower class person. Rich people never really seem to want to share the wealth. I actually donate anywhere from $100-$150 a year to ONE.
How the heck do you know what they give? Maybe they work harder than you, and are able to give more and still have more. And who are you to say your material objects are ok to have, but their's arent? Yeah, I think it's time to remove head from ass. They aren't the sole reason poverty exists. Be part of a solution, otherwise you aren't doing any good. Bitching isn't a solution, fyi.
It's like that story of the old lady who has $10 and gives $9 of it to charity, and the rich person who has $10,000 and gives $9,000, the lady who gave $9 actually gave more.
African children starving while corrupt government grow food to fill western supermarkets full of mange tout and cigarettes, half of which ends up uneaten. What does it take to for us to give something back. What are we willing to sacrifice to help these people?
How the fuck am I bitching by posting a picture of a very poor person with the title "Share the Wealth". I realize I'm very fortunate to have what I have, and I don't view it as little or anything along those lines. There's a big difference between having a few material objects (that are worth very little at that) and having many that are worth a lot of money. So perhaps it is people like you, who criticize those of us who actually want and try to make a difference that have their head up their asses. And actually there would be no poverty if people didn't hoard like that, so it is pretty much the sole reason there is poverty in the world, or at the very least a leading cause.
Perhaps those cars, those mansions, massive yards etc....if people weren't so focused on material things and put more of a priority on helping out their fellow man so that equality could actually exist. Anyways, this isn't an argument, debate or anything along those lines, I simply asked for peoples input in regards to the pictures and the ideal.
I think you're missing the big picture. There is a reason why extreme poverty exists, and it isn't because of people who are independently wealthy and have money. Most of the people you are referring to probably aren't even that rich when you look at the super wealthy at the very top. The money of US taxpayers has went into billions of dollars sent overseas to third world countries via the World Bank, which ALWAYS ends up in the hands of these countries' corrupt leaders. When it comes time for these countries to pay back that money they were loaned, they can't, so the IMF comes in and completely rewrites the economic policies of these countries so Western corporations can come in and further exploit the native peoples. Most of these third world countries are extremely rich in natural resources. They would not have a problem feeding themselves if it wasn't for outside exploitation. I guess my point is that it's silly to point the finger at the people with big houses and yachts, because in the grand scheme of things they are at the bottom of the pyramid, too. It's the super-elite -- the people behind the curtain -- you should be looking at.
Why are you so hostile for no reason? I didn't say anything to offend you, yet immediately you started to attack what kind of a person I am. You don't even know me, yet you insist I've "got my head up my ass", and that my life is a waste? Seriously....this is a perfect example of how inconsiderate and judgmental some people can be. Just chill out and realize that there's no negativity in what I'm trying to say....
Once again pressed rat I completely agree with you, but they still take much more than what they need, rather than even just a bit more than what they need, therefore they only add to the problem. I could try to do something similar to those "elites" you refer to, but I'd probably end up in a hole somewhere before to soon. That's not to say it isn't worth the try...
Exact same could be said for you! I bet you really don't need that djembe. Wiki hypocrite, dearest. Now quit fucking taking up so much air. It could go to better use.
if youre so passionate about this, why not look up a few of the charities out there, find one where the bulk of the funds go to their intended cause (if i remember right, united way did pretty good on this front, but i forget tbh) and go door to door in that neighbourhood and collect some donations. itll only take a few hours of your time, and itll make ya feel better too. hell, whatever charity you sign up for shoul dhave some how-tos on that stuff, receipts for large donations, maybe even things you could ask those folk to set up at their work to donate/help out
