As a woman who feels strongly about this issue I want to raise awareness about rape and assualt especailly in what is mostly an openminded loving communtiy. Rape is a very taboo subject and victims often experince shame and fear. They are afarid to tell someone because they don't want to be balmed for it or they are afarid that noone will belive them. This is terribly sad. Anyone who blames the victim doesn't understand the sittuation no matter how the women is dressed what she says or doesn't say to the other party in the end they are respondsible for their own actions.
Some women who get rape or assualted are seen by thoes who are ignorant as stupid, slutty, or that they asked for it. Believe me NO ONE no matter what the case is asking to be raped. And women who have lived through this terrible experince need to know that they are not alone. They also need to know that they are strong and beautiful and what happened to them was in way their fault. Lets try and get rid of the shame that victims feel. If anyone should be ashamed it is the people who commit these terrible crimes. Another thing that people most understand if soicety as a whole is to stop shaming these women is that rape is not a crime of passion but a life threating crime. That comes in many forms from rape by a stranger, date rape involving drugs, accquantce rape, insest, and forceable rape. Also someone with more power could mess with a womens mind and scare so much that she fears for herself and she simply can't say no.
I want to know how the people on this forum feel about this issue. If there are any other survivors here it is alright to come out and say so we can help each other. Also lets try and understand this crime. Lets understand why some poeple report and others don't. And why is the word often used lightly and is that ok?

What I would like to know is, what preventive measures can women take to avoid being raped? Some are obvious like be wary of accepting drinks from strangers and don't leave your drink to go to the bathroom then come back and drink it (both helps to avoid daterape). But how does a wife prevent marital rape? How does a daughter prevent incestous rape by her father?

In dealing with rape I believe that, as in medicine, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Of course we should help victims of rape by encouraging them to stand up for themselves and not shame them, but we should also be proactive and take preventive measures so that women will know how to protect themselves.

Awareness is 90% of prevention. I took a rape defense class and it helped me a whole lot. Its called RAD (Rape Aggression Defense - its all over the country). It teaches you basic moves to get out of a situation that you don't have to be in shape for. They also talk to you about what you can do to be aware like walking with your head high and being totally aware of your surroundings. Park your car under a lit area, look in the cars around yours. If someone comes too close you yell at them to get back and hold your arms out. Yeah just take the class its very worth it - its your LIFE. Its not very expensive and you can take it as many times as you want after the first one for free.

Umm yeah there is. Just because you're married doesn't mean things are always peachy and that you still love and trust each other. If anyone forces you to have sex and you don't want to and express so, thats rape.

I agree with you. Just because you're married, it doesn't mean you have to lay down for your man every time he wants some. That person is only married to you, not a love slave to you.
If she says no in her marriage, it's the same no as if you are not married to her. Why should it be any different?

    About Marrital rape:

marital rape has always existed and you are really unaware and uninformed to dont know about this!!
what about the millions of indians and arabs/muslims women who are married at age 11,12, 13, 14, 15, 16 to an older man who rape them first night and every following night??
also arabs have the right to share their wife with a friend.. so rape it is..

for non muslim and not in india, marrital rape is also a very common thing. A husband forcing his wife happens all the time and it is very rarely reported as how do you want her to do so, while living with the guy, and what about hte children? and what about the neighbourgs, and friends and job?...

There is tons of tv programs about it, keep updated..

self defense classes dont help a shit in the new form for rape using drugs put in the drink of the woman, even by people she doesnt talk to.
forcing girls to keep their drink in the hand if they dont want to face that kind of thing..
It has been an increasing problem in danmark for many years now, and the victims are between 16 and 40 years old.
The mentality has to change. thats the alone way to defeat this.

There is a wrong and a right, here, darlin. If a woman says no, she means no. As for the drink.. I would pour it over his head and break the glass over it as well. If they force you to drink than most likely something is in it, so the guy was trying to scare the person into drinking it, so either way he was going to try to get some.

My good advice to women is to watch your drinks at all times. If your're going to go out to a club (drink), I would get the drink, drink it, and then get up to dance, or don't drink at all. Know your limit too, because some scrum might see you had too many too and try something.

it has absolutly nothing to do with it!!

they do it without you knowing it, they can be at the bar, beside and discretly pooring it, and the drink can be an orange juice!!

and what the hell are you saying??

it isnt alrigth, it means nowhere a woman can have fun and feel herself save!!!

why should she have to watch her drink all the time??
they do it here already where a friend has always to sit at the table to watch the drinks while the others go dancing, but it isnt rigth that it had to be that way!!

and what about those who are alone??
poor it over him and break the glass??!! but she doesnt know someone put soemthing in her drinks!!
it happen in USA too and since a very long time, didnt you heard about it yet????

and as women married saying no, the husband rape them, and what do you want for a child of 12 or 14 to do against a 49 or 58 years old man to defend herself?????

Most just dont go out anymore..

if you have to all the time watch out for fear of being raped, then how much fun is it in going out????
the drug does at one is completely sleepy and cant move almost, and they carry the girl out like if she was drunk, and bring her to their place, rape her, and throw her out someplace later on, sometimes even completely naked!

No it's not. If a husband forces his wife to have sex with him without her consent, it's still rape.

education is so imporant. Its imporant for girls and women to understand that you can't always stop these things from happening but you must know how to defend yourself if you someone is attacking you. In the case of martial rape if a women feels sexual or otherwise threatened she should get out of the situation if possible also she should take self defense classes all women should. This goes for marital rape too. THE MOST IMPORANT THING IN PREVENTING RAPE WHEN IT COMES TO SITTUATION WHERE THE WOMEN OR GIRL IS ABLE TO REASON AND MAKE HER OWN DESIONS ONE MOST FOLLOW HER INSICTS. If you don't feel right about a sittuation EVEN if you don't know get out of it if at all possible. Don't drink heavily with ppl you don't know or in bar sittuations. AS far as insest goes Tell someone you trust if you don't feel you can trust your father or family EVEN IF ONE JUST SUSPECTS SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN THE BOTTOM LINE FOLLOW YOUR INSTICTS IF YOUR IN TROUBLE RUN IF YOU CAN AND TELL SOMEONE YOUR HURT OR COULD GET HURT UNITL THEY BELIVE YOU IF THAT IS AN ISSUE.

It also imporant to remember that there are many different kinds of rape. And that most women know their attackers so you can never be to careful.
