seriously considering attempting to organize a group here again.

dilligaf and i are becoming increasingly alarmed by the outlook for the economy and we now believe a total collapse of the economy is imminent..

therefore we are seriously considering putting out the call for like minded folks to come here so that we can ride out the coming storm together. from experience there is strength in numbers and ease of survivability under extreme circumstances can be greatly improved with a group working together..

    theres the rub.

we know,as well as those that are familiar with us know we have opened our doors to folks for many years, they also know for the most part more often than not it became a burden on us due to the lack of work ethic among many..

this CAN NOT be the case this time around..
we are preparing for a total economic collapse. therefore we are looking at long term survival without power, fuel, transportation, modern tools etc.

we have began our preparations, acquiring the last of the hand tools we need, stocking up on heirloom seeds and food staples, investing in fire starters etc. i plan on paying my land off ASAP. so unless they choose to confiscate it we should be fine here.

we have 15 acres private, near national forest.we have seasoned garden spots in place,a small heard of goats and some chickens. all in all we are prepared or will be here shortly.
weve been at this many years now ,the only real difference created here will be no power equipment or electricity. We full well know how much extra of a work load this will put on us.

thats why all we really feel we would be lacking is a few more like minded folks.
the key is "like minded" this is not a game to us,we are dead serious about this.
this is not a "hippie" excursion, defensive plans will be established to ensure our survival.animals will be slaughtered and eaten. and we very well at some point may be forced to do things we would really rather not. we must accept these things as reality.

i guess essentially what we are saying is the doors open for a few folks here for a long term stay, however there will have to be a serious screening process done by us and they will have to take this serious and pull there weight or they will be asked to leave in no uncertain terms..

anyway, we just wanted to throw all of this out here and see what kind of responses we get.

sorry to say....but until the shit hits the fan no one will believe until it happens....and so many of the like minded are in process of insuring their own survival individual case by individual whether it be family groups or a loose coalition of folks we might feel we can rely on somewhat.

For myself, having made some preparations, I long ago came to the position that in long or short term the real priority is living and Being as you Know you "should"....following your bliss...which BTW involves more work and commitment than those who do not.

For when you are in your center every single situation has the seeds of opportunity.
Along with that mind set is the concept that the real reason we are here is to Learn and Grow and that we are Spirit having a physical experience, death is not an enemy.

Be Whole my brothers and sisters...just surviving can be a terrible thing.....Growing more Whole daily brings Joy and insures the Love Grows.

    Blessings

    Namaste

to be honest we didnt really expect a response,we just kinda threw our intentions out to see what others thought.
its not like many would be up to the challenges anyway..

    ya never know though.
weve been at this long enough we will be fine,, no matter.

This is something that more people need to be doing IMO. My proximity makes it relatively unfeasible for me to throw an "application" into your mix and I can't pretend at this point that I'd pass the screening as I'm more than certain that work ethic figures as only part of the equation. My sense is that you're looking for a certain psychological make up that lends a stability- or at least doesn't imperil or represent a threat to what you're doing. For it to work long term people have to knit together somewhere between community and family where everyone has a function and there's an unquestioned hierarchy... with you and dilli meting out tasks and determining when someone doesn't fit.

I'm reflecting on the instance of being told to go in no uncertain terms and the prospect of being sent away from what could be one's only hope for survival, considering that so few of us are equipped to exist without the support of an infrastructure and power grid, this might present an ongoing security issue.

Just brain storming here... but people need very much to start thinking in terms of the economy having an imminent expiration. It's coming sooner or later. The options otherwise will be limited to serving the resulting police state in a military role.

You'll need to rely alot on your sixth sense about people... if someone just doesn't seem right to you then they probably aren't despite meeting your requirements. I guess that sense comes from how someone presents himself (or herself) as far as qualifications- do you think they're being honest... plus are they breaking off or avoiding eye contact or it can be just a vibe that makes a dog's hair stand on end that something just isn't right about this person. A successful communal situation has to rely about as much on group chemistry and respect as it does on what each individual brings to the table.

Have fun cutting that tree into firewood!

Just last year i tuned in, turned on, and dropped out.... now im in that next step....
im looking to create a commune on a nice plot of land.... Im from the North Eastern United States and im looking to start the commune somewhere probably along the Southern Appalachian mountains, (idealy i would take over the great smokey mountain national park :]...)

But yeah im dead serious about what im doing... and im in the process of creating a website for the health and growth of the community... ive had a discussion group on tribe.net for a little while now with afew others ... http://tribes.tribe.net/hope ... were nothing big, but we've got hope that with right dedication and the right people, it will grow, and thrive, not just survive...
And personally i dont feel that there should be any boss like screening process but rather a communal decision on what happens and doesnt happen, who comes in and who goes... and with like-minded, kind people, the wrinkles with smooth, differences will be solved like human beings...

and the more youths the betters, because you cant be dying and build something new... and that youthful vigor is needed to do something as reckless as leaving behind an entire civilization in pursuit of a more simple life.... but more importantly than the age is the strength, and motivation to create something new and beautiful... where children can grow up knowing what trees feel like against their skin and dirt under there feet, rather than conrete and asphalt under their shoes and metal trees that light up the night so bright you cant see the stars...

...if you think a community in the NE US is what you might be looking for, check us out... were still in early developmental stages, building the structure that will keep it standing ...

^That is what a real community is about….

A lot of people get land and screen people and try to find people they can control and will do what ever they want. They go through people every year, year after year.
That is not a commune that is a piece of land with an owner looking for servants that will be in HIS karma and be controlled in HIS game.
There is not any freedom living in someone else’s karma.
I’m not looking for a community but that sounds like you know what you are doing and are on the right track.
Good luck with your dream infernoMunkey I think it will do well. You have good energy and a good dream and know what a community is about.

when did i state we were starting a commune? one can live communally and not go by the ideals of a typical commune.
this time around folks are going to have to bring something to the table.

we have the land, the infrastructure is already established, there is livestock here, the gardens are prepared, what do you have to offer?
    its that simple...

so you think you should be able to walk right into a established community without a screening process and have equal say as those that have been there for 20 years?
    I BET YOU DO..
oh wait inferno monkey who cant even pay his own tickets an gets mommy an daddy to bail him out (from the link you provided)

thinks someone should just give him the land and support it while it grows?? WTF???,,once again,I BET YOU DO!
    once again,,NOT THIS TIME AROUND!!!

    LMFAO keep on dreamin kids...

you want a equal say?well then donate 50,000 dollars a cow and 6 months worth of staples upon arrival here and you can have equal say.

ya aint got all that? then shut the fuck up!!

we have done this time and time again if you wanna do somethin the way you think it should be done, start your own fucking thread.. especially inferno monkey..
your post has NOTHING to do with our post. ya wanna start a fucking commune, start your own fucking thread about it!!

we are not looking to start a commune.

as i stated weve had ample experience with a buncha clueless idealists that think they know exactly how it should be. problem is they spend FAR to much time thinking and not near enough time working,(take note monkey, your dreams take work not thought)not to mention that they bring nothing of value besides half assed labor and minimal skills....
in the end they benefit NOONE and the strong are left feeding the weak..

    once again,NOT THIS TIME AROUND!!

i didnt start this thread to be told im "doing it wrong" by a buncha clueless kids..

when your a fucking land owner out right and choose to give it equally to a buncha fuckin strangers then you can talk, until then, shut the fuck up or start your own thread.

    have a nice day....

Sorry to post on YOUR thread HBH.

You are making fun of infernomonkey for his parents paying for his ticket and such but let me ask you.
How did you buy your land and house?
Did you work at 7 11 and save $50 every week?
Or did you buy it with inheritance money from your family?

I don’t know where you got the money but I am sick of hearing all kind of talk about self-sufficiency and independence from people who invested trust funds into land and property. It all sounds a little hypocritical to me. Most people that work for a living can’t afford land that is where the idea of communes came about so the average person could live the dream.

I know you just said you aren’t making a commune you are making a kingdom and you are king.

Well have fun with your kingdom good luck finding some sheepish people to follow your orders.

You claim to be some experienced expert but anyone with money can buy land and live on it.
The challenge is to build a community…Which it seems you keep failing at (I wonder why)

And again, Sorry to post on YOUR thread HBH.

But this is an Internet discussion forum where an Internet community discusses things.

I have seen you go in other people’s threads and criticize their ideas but people can’t come on your thread and criticize yours?

I would say that is a bit hypocritical

I didn't take it as HHB setting up a kingdom and declaring himself king- I suspect from reading a broad section of both his and dilligaf's posts that they probably know what they are talking about.. alot more than you or I.

I didn't interpret it as living a dream as much as mitigating what would otherwise be a nightmare. It's selecting numbers so the value of the group would enhance the survival of each individual. The bigger the group the more ponderous and TIME CONSUMING decisions would be if they were a product of group thinking (endless squabbling as each individual wants HIS HIS HIS idea to be heard and nothing ultimately gets accomplished). For efficiency there needs to be a decision maker. Ideally that would fall on anyone who would know what they were doing! (HHB, dilli) and unless anyone else had pertinent experience to bring to the table their job was to do work assigned to them and shut the fuck up. Anyone having a problem with this would be free to get the fuck out and quick. Am I getting warm here?

In a sense it is communal living as each member is working toward the common good... and recognizing that indulging every single opinion itself could be very costly for the group, those who participate would know their job and just do it without whining about division of labor or anything else. You can set up some sort of hippie commune and everyone starts out so nice and we tip toe around everyone's feelings and everything is all flowers, peaches, and puppy dogs tra-la-la but the act will get old and given enough time the inner asshole that dwells in most of us will come out. Put all that in a survival setting with the needs of each individual relying on the group behaving as a cohesive unit but there's no set rules for the group to operate under and there's no infrastructure to fall back on and you have a recipe for a bunch of dead hippies... most likely at the hands of one another.

no i left home at 15,spent 7 years traveling about wound up settling here, changed jobs 3 times in 2 years. went to work where im at now and have been for 20 + years, purchased a house and a acre and a half at 23 or so,lived there for a couple years had the opportunity to buy this place and sold my other place at a actual loss just so i could have a chance at my dream. ive spent since 1993 here full time driving 85 miles 1 way to a job where i could make enough money to pay for the land and to build on my dream.. and NO i have no high paying corporate job,i work construction!

your god damn right i am laughing at inferno monkey living at home with mom and dad with no land,no idea how to get land, coming in this thread and posting about how hes starting a commune and hes got it all figured out yadda yadda..
its absoloutley the clueless idealistic mentality i keep referring to..
it takes getting off your ass working from dawn to dark for years and years before ya begin to see your dreams come true. ya cant sit in your parents house thinking of ways to get it all free and expect it to manifest itself.

no we are looking for like minded people who understand what it takes to survive should times get as bad as we feel they will.
as i stated we built the infrastructure, the cabins here, fenced the pasture, put the driveway and gardens in etc. whomever comes here will have to earn there status here plain and simple. one cannot expect to be a equal partner without contributing anything to the cause.

ive put every cent ive made for the last 15 years into this land, not to mention the thousands of hours of labor dilligaf and i have put into the land here.i pay the taxes,i pay the insurance,i pay the power bill, the internet and phone bill, buy the seed, buy the groceries we dont grow, etc.etc.

for you to suggest that one can just come here offering nothing but what they can contribute from that time forward and be treated as a equal partner is asinine..

ive stated why several times in this thread,i could care less what you choose to believe. however ill state it again,
its peoples entitlement mentalities that are to blame. noone wants to put forth equal effort and everyone seems to think they should instantly have equal say.. it doesnt work that way.

when you get up at 4:30 in the morning to head to work an noone else has been to bed yet,ya come home from work an everyones just getting up,when they do a half hours work an then expect to be fed, have use of the computers get smoked up etc.. your damn fucking right it gets fucking old and they get told to leave.

we went through that shit time and time again an as i stated.. NOT THIS TIME AROUND!
folks will be screened, they will have a probationary period should they choose to come and they will be asked to leave if they dont pull there weight!

this is a working farm not a playground...

what is so fucking wrong with that??
please enlighten me oh wise one...

if you would do some research you would see that the VAST MAJORITY of established communes CHARGE for internships . the vast majority do not let you have equal say until you have been voted in as a member by the rest of the community. that is usually after a minimum of 6 months there..
so dont go acting like we are doing something that communes dont.. hell most even charge just to visit.

if anything we have less requirements than many communes when one is thinking about becoming a member.

you really should check your facts before making accusations ...

i really dont expect those that have never lived the way we do to have a clue, but ill be damned if ill stand by and let them talk shit when they have no actual idea what they are talking about!

so think what ya want,i can guarantee ya one thing, those that dont understand where we are coming from would never work out here or most anywhere else for that matter. so i could give a flip flying fuck less what they think....

    have a nice afternoon.

Wow, ambitious man to pay off your mortgage in 20 years driving 80 miles one way to a construction job, do I believe it? No not really but its your story.
If you did use inheritance money to buy any of your land I think you should stop giving people a hard time about getting money from their parents. Because you would still be living off of your parents on the property you bought with money they left you.

I’ll tell you one thing I would much rather live on inferno monkeys place then yours any day.
Most of us have a dream to live in a community, not on someone’s land being a servant. A community where we can be equal members and feel like a part of the community not a servant on someone’s land.

Do I think you should just let hippies live for free on your land? No I just wonder why you want people out there in the first place. Cheap labor? Feels good to control people?

The whole sky is falling and wanting to help people theme is a little weak. That is a common cult recruitment sales pitch.

What do I know about communities? well I was born on a commune and have lived on communes until I was 19. And traveled and lived now I live in co housing. Not a lot but enough to know what it is all about.

I have seen a few people inherit money buy land and start their own kingdoms and go through the never ending cycle of people coming and getting sick of living under someone’s rule and leaving. Over and over
I have watched the landowner pattern sense I was a little kid have old friends still doing it good place to go when you have nothing else I guess.

The landowners always say it is because they can’t find the right people but we all know it is because know one wants to live under someone’s else rule.
It is nice to be a community member not a serf. It is just human nature we move out of our parents’ home to create our own life and karma.

Yes commune have trail periods before you are a full-fledged member but you can become a full-fledged member.
The landowner game you are always a servant.

But anyway have fun on your new cycle of people I’m sure you will find a handful of naive hippies that will do some chores for a while.

Maybe you should just get a dog they listen better then people.

First n foremost.. we aint a dang commune, never have been and never ever will be :)

Secondly.. a herd of sheep is what we dont want here. If i want sheep i can go anywhere and find me a whole herd of them... We have had our share of sheep in the past and i have no use for them here any longer..

Third, this is not rainbowland or a thought process. This is a working and living place. We dont pack up and leave after a week or two and head on down the road.
This is a sun up to sundown and sometimes then some (in the middle of the night and when weather truly sucks) 365 day a year lifestyle. This means that even though it is a shit job (sometimes quite literally) it still has to be done. It means that things are born and things die, things live then are slaughtered in order to feed us. Until you live the life style dont be telling me how to live it.

In the past we have allowed anyone to visit and work and stay for up to two months and more if it was decided upon amongst all here at the time. It was a nightmare! However at this point in time we have decided that folks that are here with us must be of like mind. They must be in a survival mode in case SHTF.Therefore plainly n simply i want those in my presence that can not only help there chances in a chaotic situation but help mine as well. I dont want billybob the pill popper sleeping til 1 pm on a mid july day while i been up and out since before the sun rise and am ready to call it a day of work out doors and head to do inside things and make dinner and then have to listen to him sit n bitch about my being inside while asking me for a cigarette . I have had that... How does that benefit anyone ..Plain n simple it dont. I personally would like to live through a SHTF scenario thank you very much and I want those with the same intentions at the very least in my presence ..

Since i live here and haved lived here and helped build the place into what it is.. I know how to make it function on a dailiy basis.I know what works easiest, whats most efficient and what just plain dont work. I do not need to be told that by some kid that has never seen a goat in his life or never planted a tomatoe seed. Not that i have issues with those that havent done such things, this has been and always will be about teaching as well as learning . However most of there bright ideas fail miserably when given a chance to integrate them in to life here.. In turn this is a giant waste of time and energy often by more than one person when quite frankly there is plenty of other things that could have been done..

The ones that pick n choose what they want to do have always grated on my last nerve.. We do what has to be done and when it has to be done. I dont care if you only like to weed the garden when there is wood to be split. I quite frankly dont care if you dont like getting dirty and shoveling shit. If thats what needs to get done its gonna be done. I know we have hills n simple tools here n its seems a bit hard at times. I never said it was simple. But like we have stated before in a sHTF scenario,,, the big handy dandy stuff will be sitting around gathering dust.. The whole purpose of being prepared and in survival mode is to make any changes that may happen affect you as little as possible. We simply have omitted most of the handy power tools from the start,,, makes that transition much easier..

Been down that road my friend...as explained above.. We had very few rules in the past, very short work requirements and gave of ourselves entirely too much for what it was truly worth. It was in every sense a "hippy commune."That aint saying things didnt get done, but for the amount of people we had here at one point(13)it is quite sad what was accomplished.

Things are different now and things are being gone about from a different angle this time in opening our doors. There is a goal in mind and we are intending upon reaching that goal and therefore decided that perhaps there are others out there that have survival in mind and want to be prepared however dont have a safe place in order to do so. It is with that intention that we have made this post, not to call the minions of sheeple to our pastures. Pastured animals here all end up slaughtered.
We know this life style isnt for everyone , its a lotta work and little reward other than happy bellies n simplicity in life. We dont require you to have knowledge of the lifestyle but we are requiring that you put out the same efforts toward the lifestyle that we do .If anyone thinks they might be interested, holler at us..

silly little boy,,, you know nothing! Our parents have nothing to do with this land or us as a matter of fact, nor have they for many years.. It is called working our asses off. Now if you must know lil boy, As noted in the first post it will soon be paid off.. We are pulling 401 k out to pay the last 20000. So we know it is ours and wont be taken ...

Praise the lord!!!!!!what place, ??? His community is a mere thought process nothing more. So please tell me where art though going to live with him,, his thoughts,...

You obviously have major reading comprehension skills issues. is has been stated before and isnt worth repeating

Think what you wish.. This really isnt about helping , other than helping one another ... Quite frankly we dont "need" anyone in this, we are more than prepared on our own , we just thought it would be advantagious to have other like minded people around. Thankfully you are not one of them.

oh we have two dogs as a matter of fact. Both herd guardians and they are slaves to our kingdom . Everything here has to pull there own weight,,, even them :)

HHB/Dilligaf, I'd love to have you guys as neighbors. I've been down the same route as you guys with the land ownership and inviting brother and sisters to live and contribute to the common good and I really didn't have that great of luck with it for all the reasons you guys have mentioned. I hope the right people find their way to your place.

Gobot - Why do you think that hippies with land must have gotten it from their parents or a trust fund? (Or through real estate swindles). Your posts really indicate little practical life experience. I mean rednecks and good church going country folk work, make money and buy modest county places all the time, so why can't hippies?

no worries from the people weve met from here over the years i know there are like minded people of all ages on these forums. so using that as a guide i know there are people intelligent enough to understand where we are coming from,so im sure between now and the first of summer we will have a few replies.

well as you see a lot of "young dreamers" tend to live in a fantasy land.

i dunno,i really think when it comes right down to it most kids are clueless to how hard it all actually is and what kinda rules established communes that strive for self sufficiency have.

i recently posted a call for help from some folks in Tennessee in this same forum and id like to share something from there website..

this is there internship application.please note the highlighted questions.

    http://svionline.org/intent.html

so if your accepted, heres the terms and conditions and supplys your responsible for.once again, please note the highlighted areas.

    http://svionline.org/interninfo.htm

that my friend is reality.. there is no fantasy land like is in many heres heads.. it doesnt exist..

now i ask you, what we are asking for is harsh how?
