by it's own stupid fucking supporters a friend of mine went to a gun show in williston, north dakota [he sells bbq sauce at them] there was a booth advertising concealed weapons permits for $25 it was an open-book test, and if you were still too dumb to get the answers right, the tester would 'give you some help' he also made the claim that once you passed, 'the government could never take the permit away' [not even after a felony conviction?] the north dakota license is reciprocal in 33 other states do these kind of abuses help anyone? [currently afraid to visit north dakota]
while i'm a supporter of the constitution, which clearly enumerates the right of individuals to bear arms, I also believe that right should be well regulated. I would love for someone to teach me how to hunt (I do ok shooting hand throws). I am fascinated by firearms. But I am not foolish enough to believe hey should be carried concealed, or that they should be easy to obtain.
i used a gun once in my life i was 13 or so and i shot a bird i have not touched one since i live in a hunting area, every morning this time of year there is a steady pop pop of someone killing something [deer mostly, i think] fine, who cares, not my karma but why anyone in a state that practically has 'we leave our doors unlocked' as its motto needs a concealed weapon is beyond my understanding [bar fights?]
If I had room in my budget, I would buy a pump action 16 gauge for my home, maybe a 20. Something my wife could handle comfortably. For home protection, you really don't need anything other than a shotgun. A .357 may seem like a good idea, but it can go through walls and kill the wrong person, and it's a lot harder to aim a handgun when you are shaking from fear. With a short barreled shotgun, it's hard to miss, and the sound of the pump action will send most people packing.
I was taught about firearms from the age of 7. My father never hunted, but enjoyed the skill of shooting. I hunted for years, then stopped, not because I thought it was wrong, but because I realized what I loved about hunting was to be part of the natural world. I taught my daughter to shoot, too, as a skill, just like throwing a ball or playing basketball. And most of all, I taught her that holding a gun is a massive responsibility. We never hunted together, she has no interest in killing an animal, but we have gone on many, many "camera hunts". The season is always open to sit quietly and take a picture
If our country could learn how to hunt for more of its meat, it would be a step in the direction of environmental sustainability vis-a-vis our food supply.
I live in Texas, and according to a 2004 study Texas has 63% of guns in America that are owned by civilians. Right around 3 guns per household.
The way this government looks like it's going to send us to concentration camps any day, I'd like to feel comfort in knowing I am at arm reach to my guns.
you left out the two dogs. Rather than a bat, we keep a lion killing club my wife brought back from kenya. Niko will grab someone's forearm and shake his head when someone is threatening the household. He gets rewarded whenever he barks to announce potential intruders.
You would be better spending your energy worrying about getting cancer, or being hit by a drunk driver or for that matter, being struck by lightening.
The only victims at Waco were the children who were imprisoned by lunatic adults who decided to have a gun battle rather than a civilized battle in a courtroom.
Or Ruby Ridge. It's happened more than once, that we know of. It's always prudent to protect yourself and your family from any threat. The best way to do that is to educated yourself about security measures, survival ism, safe and effective gun handling, current events, etc. Keep your eyes, and ears open. Know who your friends and enemies are. Have a plan and a back-up plan. I'm betting on the American people when it comes to the second amendment. It's our job to protect our rights. I hope that if our government tries to take our guns, we stand together to fight to keep them. It may take a revolution, but if we don't fight, we are at their mercy.
A civilized battle in a courtroom? So the government can throw their children in foster care, so they can be beaten, molested up until the age of 18 years or until they run away with mental & emotional problems never to see their parents again & bond to prison so some tax payer can have a government officer be kept on the pay roll. I don't want to live in some backwoods country like England where my government tells me what I cannot or can do with my personal self. The US government is filled with murderers, I'm just protecting my interest.
Yes, England, the backwoods totalitarian land of socialism. You realize you are full of shit, don't you?
Political rhetoric. From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_Siege Four government agents were killed and six branch Davidians in the ORIGINAL raid. The siege lasted 51 days and many innocent people were killed IN THEIR HOME BY THEIR GOVERNMENT. Even if you do not agree with this, you should be able to see that there is more than one side to each story. The government admittedly mishandled this situation. This did not have to happen.
