Dont know the fancy name for this and its really only used for hardwood cutting.
But I was wondering if by running a razor blade sideways down the stem before dipping in rooting powder and planting would mj root any faster?

I used to cut length wise about a half inch or so when taking a cutting, then dipped in liquid rooting solution and had great success. I cant really remember how long it took though but it was not very long maybe a week or so.

Think it starts from the node and work upwards as the the stem gets changed from grow mode to rooting. The idea is the cells on the stem are in grow mode and all need converting over to grow root and by scratching the stem the cells are damaged so instead of being converted there repaired into rooting cells. Hope that makes sense but think i will have to do a little study.

Yes I think you are right if my memory is correct. The roots come out of damaged cells, I never tried to scratch the stem itself though. The roots would start to come out of the cut, them the stem would get bumpy and more roots would come out of the bumps. But I can see where putting a scratch on the stem might make it happen faster. Try some expermenting and keep us posted.

I have some plants that are very hard to clone due to me stupidly breeding from a damp off plant hence all the clones very hard to root without damping off and anything that speeds up the rooting will help greatly.
Yes interesting theory and i know it works with hardwoods but maybe a soft stem plant will dry out a bit to quick due to the stem being damaged and open but will give it a go in next week or so.

If you put the clones in rockwool they should not dry out as long as theres water in the tray.

Nice one ^^^ being a soil grower did.nt think about rockwool. Anyway cant wait to start cloning again for new grow season.

Yes rockwool is a must for clones, your life will be much easier. I always started clones in rockwool cubes and when they rooted I moved them into 2 1/2 gallon pails full of a soil mixture I concocted. Worked great, got busted though so that put me out of the game for awhile, but not for long:D

i use this method everytime i clone........can't say it works "faster", but you do have a better root structure IME.............also alittle tip i've learned doing this.............find the branch you want to use for a clone, leave the stem intact but cut off necessary fan leaves and small shoots, then take your razor blade and make a 1/2-1 inch scrape all around the stem, just above where you plan to cut the stem for the clone.........after this is done, clip it, dip in water (if using powder rooting hormone, if not this can be skipped), dip in rooting hormone, stick it in a rapid rooter, rockwool, etc., whatever you use for cloning.

    :cheers2: hope this helped alittle.

Thanks manc helps greatly but ya know you really do surprise me with your knowledge sometimes.
I like the sounds of better root structure that has loads of benefits. Interesting that you make the scrapes first before cutting the clone so guessing ya need to work fast, I would do this after cutting clone and under water in a bowl.

right on man, glad i could help......this is what growing is about! helping one another to achieve GREAT buds! ;)

about the cutting though.........i've tried the underwater method and it is truly a pain in the ass...........when you leave it on the stem you have MUCH more control and it is MUCH easier to scarify it/scrape it.......there is no rush.....i use to think that doing it underwater was the best, until i tried this method....like if you went to slow it would die, lol.....but i've had buddies send clones in 90F+ heat and even with that evaporation they still come out of it...........kinda like when you forget to water one and it looks sadly, but you water it, and it snaps out of it.....not fast, but does snap out of it........you know what i mean! lol.....but really you can take your time and they come out fine! sure you don't want to lollygag but still you don't need to "RUSH".

fire away on questions!!.........im here to help! :cheers2: :sifone:

especially when i use the method ;)

EDIT:: well, back to watering the girls until next question!

The skill is in the detail.

From time to time I think a little drying out and wilting does them good least ya know there sucking air down and into the soil. Actually manc think ya answered all my questions in one faul swoop just really wanted to know if this method works and any better then just straight cutting and planting.
