Was anyone here a Boy Scout? We might have a thread about this already, and even used the same title joke. I just dont feel like looking for it. I was till I got my Eagle. I think that accounts for alot of destructive behavior and some of my hippie-ish ways. (the love of camping, outdoors and burning things.....scratch that last one.) Anyone else in scouts and did you find it to be a positive experience or did you get molested. (jkn kinda)
I think the scouts are sexist, girls learn to sell brownies and boys camp, huh let me think bout that one
Well Im not sexist, but I would have to say that half the fault of that lies in the fact that too many girl scout organizations gear there programs too more prissy things. My sister was a girl scout, and there camping trips always had cabins or A-wall tents, while we always slept in our little cold pup tents . I think the groups are seperate however because of the rampant sex that would be had, should the groups be combined, I mean, come on, we were going through puberty at that age, puberty. And of course there are major political and bullshit ideaologies that govern the scouts and scouting in general, but so does other after school programs that are tied in with faith in an organized religion. I wouldn't deny a girl from joining my troop should I be the scoutmaster, especially if there was not a reasonable alternative available.
I was a scout for about three days when I lived in Okinawa....I found it really boring and I thought it was crap that I had to listen to the other people just because they were there longer than me.
Im sorry to hear that all, my first troop I was in was shitty very military like that sucked and I left early on (later found out the scoutmaster molested somone, ggggreat) So then I joined another troop which was awesome, they werent into the military stuff, just into the camping and fire building and good time having while earning merit badges. We earned the music merit badge and started Nirvana cover band at scout meetings. We did alot of axe and knife throwing for sport, and lots of hikes in strange awesome places. I consider that program with those group of people to be more important in my development than CCD was, growing up catholic.
I was a tiger scout or somethin when i was like 6, i remember the scout master played a trick on us and ended up scaring the hell out of me so i left. lol kinda funny looking back on.
Yes i was, Went through all the way to Eagle scout . I love it all had a blast and i agree alot of my hippy friends. Were scouts too, I even got molested by a Brownie LOL
I was in the cubs for about 4 years.... loved it ... scouts ?? no way that was for people with no friends or people that wished not to do the things 'normal' kids do at that age. Only kidding
i am an eagle scout and am currently an assistant scoutmaster. i love the program alot. granted it is paramilitary but with some competant people running it it can be laidback while still maintaining some order and looking "professional". it really depends on the troop and the people you have to deal with. when i was younger i would catch shit from other kids in my troop because i openly denied the existence of god but it was never really bad for me. like any type of oganization or club there is a family feel established in a good troop, some kids experience quite a bit of hazing, we arnt gonna just let anyone into our family. i was and am always sure to preach tolerance however. my father was always involved right along with me. he is now the scoutmaster and plans to stay involved for a while. like i said i love the program it has alot to offer it has tought me alot of things it helped instill pride in myself aswell as teaching me to be a good "citizen"(good person sounds better). as far as girlscouts goes. the program is really lacking. there arnt too many older girl scouts to begin with mostly younger girls who arent interested in camping and such. i know quite a few girsl who wish they had been in troops that went camping and what not like boyscouts. there is a new program now called venture scouting it is coed, ages 14 to 21. it is supported by the boyscouts of america and is very similar. it can actually be more intense allowing for bigger outdoor adventure. i also know that many scouting programs outside of the US are coed great brittan for example. it really depends on the people involved though i was lucky to be involved in a good troop im sorry to those of you who werent. the problem in scouting now lies with membership. so many other things take up kids time like sports and other activities. we are suffering now with keeping the troop alive with a huge membership of 10 kids. peace, bob
Very true it is not like it was when i was a kid, too many kids today thinks of The Scouts is to gay, They are to worry about being a video game couch potato, Scouts day are being out done these days. Do you remember when the last time you saw a Scout commercial well it has been a long time, At least here in Ohio... I stop by the scout tent at our local fair every year. To see my Scout Master and see the display it was really a sad day for me, Only half are still around in just one year and i was told my old troop is on it way out too.So the frist of the year i am becoming a Scout Master. I will not let the Scouts die off like so many other programs did...
I got a good rep point from someone after they noticed that.. i mean to please every sexual orientation.
Scouts is where I started my bad habits. Started smoking pot, liking porn, hating organized religion. . . And toasted my hand pretty bad on a frying pan (and ruined the garlic bread! I'm an asshole for that one! Oh let me tell you, fella'). lol Hooray for melting off fingerprints. I also learned that people are shmucks/assholes and there is nothing we can do about it. ::thumbs up for scouts::
