Arnold Schwarzenegger, the outgoing Governor of California was on Jay Leno last night and briefly discussed the marijuana situation in his state. He said:
Of course the Governor is known to have smoked cannabis during his earlier career as a weightlifter, around the time he started his movie career. In fact he said; "I also inhaled -- unlike some people claim."

Arnold also said that the reason that Prop 19, the measure to legalize marijuana in California was defeated 54% to 46% was because it "went a little bit too far" and "was written badly." He then said: "Propositions don't die because the idea is bad. It just dies because it's written wrong."

The Governator recently signed into law a bill that lowered the penalties for possession of under one ounce to a ticket with a max $100 fine. The fine was $100 before, but you had to go to court and got a police record. Now you don't!

Why didn't he come out and say this BEFORE the vote on Prop 19? It might've swayed a few voters...

it's all a spin, isn't it? He didn't really want it legal because had he he would have said all this before. At the moment it looks as though Arnie is trying to appeal to those who wanted the ban lifted.

    It seems to be working.

Only afterwards he notices how badly the proposition was written? I don't think so.

Actually the measure was WELL written if your name is Richard Lee (the author). It was written to benefit him and the Oakland Gang of Four who were all ready for legalization by getting authority from Oakland to open up huge indoor grows to meet the demand.

But it was bad for the small time grower, even the casual home grower. It would've allowed a few big bizes to monopolize the industry to a degree. It also criminalized a lot of things about cannabis that weren't specifically mentioned before. The grow size restriction of 25 sq ft was a big problem for many.

There were so many things wrong with it that Tom Ammiano had to come up with a new bill in the legislature just to address the shortcomings of Prop 19 and to clarify it.

All Ammiano has to do now is rework his bill to eliminate any references to Prop 19, and we have a NEW legalization bill in the legislature ready to go!

*shrugs* I hope they don't legalize it anyways

if it was legal it probably wouldn't be fun anymore.

LOL! That's the subject of another active thread here. Whether or not it's the illegality of cannabis along with the rituals involved that people get psychologically addicted to...

I strongly disagreed with that. When alcohol prohibition ended, did people STOP drinking?

Sure it's a bit of fun to do something "on the sly", but it's the nature of the drug itself that keeps people using it.

I agree. Shitty timing on his part. Though it was done on purpose.

This I've seen written before and I don't agree with. Does that fact that cannabis is illegal really make it more fun? Tell that to people serving time for it's use.

I think if youre doing any drug just to get a rush because its illegal is a very wrong reason to be doing it

No, but that's because alcohol was always an all age, mass marketed drug. You would expect to have a glass of wine with your family

but what about when you come home to find granny smoking a doobie? That would be totally uncool, I suggest you hide the hard boiled sweets..

Thats why its unaccepted because of that mindset that its not cool for everyone to use it, its just a plant.

Smoking tobacco is not cool, we all know this. But wait, how many people decided it was only before they turned sixteen and could actually then choose to screw up their health??

A person can want what they cannot have, you know.

Anyways, I don't smoke weed and I don't want it legalised. The UK aren't considering it to my knowledge, i'm happy about that.

Man, people of all ages use and enjoy cannabis. Does that fact that older people use it make it uncool? We're not talking about a band or snowboarding.

Smoking cannabis isn't necessarily "cool", nor should it be treated as the "hip thing to do", it's just the use of a plant.

The argument that it would be uncool if a certain class of people, i.e. older people, were using it is just lame. Besides, I'm willing to bet that the number of older boomers out there who use and enjoy cannabis would give that of the younger crowd a run for it's money.

I know but thats just being stupid and having nothing better to do with your life. " oh im not 18 yet so im gonna smoke and try to look cool" and you shouldnt do anything for that reason. Weed deserves more respect than that and so does every other drug because it can and will kill you if you use it for the wrong reasons
