we started back last monday. its fucked up the way they're running things now. We only get two months out of a 12 month year ot of school. Thats fucked up!! Even though we did have a bunch of random one week breaks scattered thoughout the year, they're not comparable to a full 3months of no school if I do say so myself. We ahvent ahd a full three months ummer since I was around 10 or 11. I'll graduate this year though so I guess I wont ahve to worry about it. Also where I go to school our hours are only 8am-1230am everyday
I'm looking forward to it. Except I'm moving back only 3 days before L1 starts, so I won't really have all that much time to prepare. Basically, no gap between work and school.
When you think about it, it's kind of sad that most of our valuable waking hours are spent in government slave camps. We have all this time, and as human beings we should be able to do some great shit with all that time, but instead we are slaves to the system and our entire lives revolve around it. People WASTE all 60+ years most of us have here going to work, school, or both, and then still doing homework at home or working extra late. It's genuinely sad.
Well really that is kind of a primitive way of looking at it. Sure thats one view point but if you can get away with doin a lotta crazy fun shti while workin and goin to school...... ya know?
You mean besides how it's illegal to refuse to sit there for 7 hours a day nearly every day, being taught many things you will never use, some things that are complete bullshit (see: history), and that you have to conform? And yes, you can homeschool, but not every parent can legally teach.
I heard that some schools are doing that because they think the kids won't forget as much of their studies if the vacation time is shorter. That would really eat into someone's summer work schedule. .
They don't make you conform at all. The hilarity here is that you should be grateful that your state's population is spending thousands of dollars a year so that when you reach adulthood, you will no longer be a petulant ignorant little child. Here is a list of things you won't want to be at 25: a)stupid b)unemployed/poorly employed c)poor School will help with all of these.
maybe so but thats the worst philosiphy ever.... all the 5day breaks are just as bad, they're jsut enough time to get in the mood of no school and get out of the mind set and then get stuck right back in. Not to mention for the most part I dont think very many people retain the information they learn anyways. I mean, personally most kids I know, myself included, cram literally minutes before a test, take the test really fast writing down jsut enough to get the qiestion correct, do fairly well on the test and then totally forget everything pertaining to the test shortly after.
inavacuum...you named your black lab mowgli, i wish you could see the smile on my face. and he's adorable school doesn't actually start for me until the 28. i'm transferring from a smaller college, which let out the first of may, so i had a loooong vacation! but i have to move in the 25, and im a bit nervous about it ~_~
School here started the 13th, and the kids only go 4 days a week....yup they get a 3-day weekend every week
I don't start until the 28. But, meh, even though summer vacation does get boring for me I would rather not have to go to school. I learn way more on my own than I do at school. I agree with CrazybutLazy. Call me just a stupid hormonal teenage who has yet to learn the importance of school. I don't think we should be trapped in brick buildings all day and then spending most of that time sitting in desks. We spend more waking time there than we do with our own families. I hate how society has made it so that if you fail at school, you fail at life. There are other kinds of intelligence than just book smart. There's street smart, good with hands, wisdom, good at communication, etc., but yet all those don't matter. You get an F on a standardized test, you FAIL. And then the fact that most teaches don't bother to try to teach in interesting and varying ways. Some kids learn kinetically, some musically, some in groups, some alone, but yet if they don't learn in the way the teacher teaches, they have failed. Their self esteem is lowered, they feel stupid, and they're less likely to try.
