I myself have now finished education, although I will be going to college in September. Who here has ever gone barefoot in either school or college? I know I sure as hell did for my last few days in school... This is going to be making me sound like a foot-fetisher, although I don't actually have a foot-fetish, but I'm wanting descriptive answers rather than just "yes I have". I'm looking to see what you guys found in your experineces... So in fact I'll ask questions.

    1) How often did you do it?
    2) What kind of places did you do it?
    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
    4) What did people think about it?
    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
    8) How about making your way to and from school?

In your reply please try to answer as many of these questions as you can because I'm wanting some inspiration for when I start college.

    1) How often did you do it?

    All of the time

    2) What kind of places did you do it?

    Everywhere...literally

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?

    No. Never.

    4) What did people think about it?

There was really very little reaction. This, however, is due primarily to my location. The most formal footwear most folks wear at the college here is zorries, so bare feet aren't such a "giant leap".

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?

Our college here, like the rest of our environment, is quite clean; you can walk all over our island all day and the bottoms of your feet would merely be a light brown from the natural coral dust. If I were going to college in a major city , it would, I'm sure, be quite different.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?

Once in a while; most folks just wore zorries, because they have since ever since.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?

Well, given that I never wore (or wear) any kind of shoes in the first place, no.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?

    Please see comment on #7.

Your mileage may vary; the level of tolerance and practicality of the entire exercise is dependent on your location and its prevailing culture. You may need to make some adjustments to create your own unique college barefoot experience.

    1) How often did you do it?
    Several months

    2) What kind of places did you do it?
    All over, academic buildings, wherever...
    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
Depending on how long my day was sometimes I would bring sandals.

    4) What did people think about it?
At first it was chill, then I got yelled at by some random guy that didn't even work for the school in one of the food courts. We got into a little discussion, he left in disgust, and a few days later I just kind of backed off from the abrefoot thing. but most peopler didn't care. Sometimes they looked at me like I was crazy.
    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
Actually compared to city and town streets it's pretty clean, lots of buildings with carpet and stuff clean off your feet.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
Yeah, there was one other kid that did it after I stopped.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
Outside yes, often, toilets were a case by case situation.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?
I lived on campus so, yeah when I went barefoot I did.

For one thing, you have not finished your education, you are just starting it. Make the best of it.

The most barefoot friendly experience of your life will be at the university. Enjoy yourself and just throw the shoes away. I was barefoot at FSU in the early 70’s….Hippy Time….LOL

    1) How often did you do it?
once, but i plan to do it again
    2) What kind of places did you do it?
All over the school, in the library everywhere
    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
yes, some extremely uncomfortable shoes, the reason i went barefoot
    4) What did people think about it?
They all went 'where's your shoes?'
    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
    Nah, only me
    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
It was a very hot day so I was almost burning my feet on the ground, I had to walk on the grass! As for restrooms (toilets here!), They're pretty clean
    8) How about making your way to and from school?
I walked to school in the uncomfy shoes, got lots of blisters and walked back barefoot. Noone really noticed to be honest, but I had to kind of hop over black tarmac!

    1) How often did you do it? I went barefoot at least a few days a week.

    2) What kind of places did you do it? everywhere, class, campus offices, the library, downtown, grocery store, video store, some restaurants, etc.

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind? Depended on situation. Sometimes I had shoes or flip flops on before going barefoot.

    4) What did people think about it? I don't remember anybody saying anything positive or negative about it. Didn't seem like anyone cared.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet? Again depended on where I was, but walking barefoot all day in stores, parking lots, class rooms etc,. my feet would get pretty dirty

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot? THere were always other people around barefoot. That was one of the great things about college.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)? Outside was never a problem even in colder weather. Toilets don't remember doing that. Probably depended on cleanliness

    8) How about making your way to and from school? Sometimes I would walk, sometimes I would ride my bike, sometimes I would drive.

It was just great to be that care free in college with no one making a big deal about it. Clean feet. dirty feet, it really didn;t matter. No one seemed to care whether me, my friends or any one else was barefoot

    1) How often did you do it?

Throughout the academic year, until it gets too damn cold.

    2) What kind of places did you do it?

I'm a college student, so I barefooted pretty much everywhere.

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?

I usually carried a pair of flip flops with me in my bag. They lady at the cafeteria gets extremely pissy if someone is not wearing shoes, and I'm usually too hungry to argue with her... so I just put my flipflops on and head for the salad bar.

    4) What did people think about it?

Lots of comments, I think that I'm the only one in my school who actively barefoots. The two most common ones are "Where are your shoes at?", to which I usually reply with silly statements such as "My dog ate them" or "I donated them to charity", the second most frequent comment is "You'll get worms in your feet"... which is just ridiculous. Most people just stare... it truly amazes me.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?

Ehh, I don't really pay attention. I try to walk on the grass as much as possible, so that leads to dirt... but I don't see how it matters.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?

A mi no me parece, pero no he estado en la universidad en unos meses, asi que puede ser que hay mas gente asi alli... quien sabe!

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?

I don't mind toilets, they are usually cleaned more often than any other rooms.... and well... worst case scenario... I step in piss... I'll just wash my feet and keep on truckin'.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?

I live on campus, but I also bike around once in a while... barefoot or not, makes no difference.

I don't make a religion out of barefooting, it's just something I do, something that I did ever since I was a kid... it's just a part of me.

I went to school in Boston. So, yeah, there comes a time when it's just too cold to even think about barefooting... even around the house (notice I now live in Florida). However, in the warmer months, I just did the flip flops thing. They come off and on easily. Yeah, sometimes you get stares - shop owners give you a problems too sometimes. Whatever... I can almost guarantee that you will always find at least one other person who likes to go barefoot as much as you do.

    1) How often did you do it?
    almost every day

    2) What kind of places did you do it?
hallways, in class, caf, library, to and fro, field, mall... i dunno, wherever.

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
i mostly always take flip flops or crocs or something with me unless i know i wont be walking a long way on hot pavement.

    4) What did people think about it?
i dont think i ever got a comment except from my friends who called me a dirty hippy as usual ;)

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
i dunno, i dont check my soles to see how dirty they are lol

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
no. girls kick off their shoes in class and sometimes walk around in sock or barefeet if their shoes really hurt but thats it.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
well, i walked to and from school and to the mall and everything barefoot all the time and the bathrooms dont bother me

    8) How about making your way to and from school?
as i said, almost always barefoot unless i rode my bike, then id wear shoes because my pedals are spikey metal and hurt me. i barefoot to and from work now and i always go on the bus without shoes, the drivers never care. same with shops, ive never been asked to put shoes on anywhere ive gone. its a pretty small town here.

I was raised by parents that rarely wore footwear, so other than public schools where they made me wear footwear, I was always barefoot unless it was really cold.

    1) How often did you do it?
I did it every day when the temperatures were above freezing, with minimal comments from fellow students and instructors. I could not go barefoot to some engineering classes for safety reasons, but I can't work barefoot in my construction job today for the same reasons. I do get barefoot as soon as I get off work however.

    2) What kind of places did you do it?
Anywhere I could. I had a pair of old worn out moccasins that had no soles. They covered the tops of my feet, but my soles were bare. Unless someone was really looking they didn't know I was really barefoot.

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
My moccasins or sometimes flip flops in my backpack

    4) What did people think about it?
In my classes my fellow students, professors, etc., didn't care. I didn't hear many comments but also didn't care if people made comments.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
The floors were never totally clean, so yes my feet got dirty, sometimes very dirty, but I love getting my feet dirty so it was great to me.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
Yes, I was able to convinve a couple of my buddies to go barefoot. It wasn't as common to see guys barefoot in classes as it was women.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
Outside was no problem. My soles were/are tough so most surfaces didn't/do not bother me. In a restroom, if the floor was wet and I didn't want my feet to get wet, I would pull out my flip flops and wear them.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?
This was never a problem for me. I drove barefoot to classes in bad weather, and walked to classes barefoot in good weather, unless it was really cold, then I wore old sneakers.

    Good luck, and stay barefoot!!!

    1) How often did you do it? Almost everyday, except in the winter when it was too cold for my poor feet!

    2) What kind of places did you do it? Everywhere

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind? No

    4) What did people think about it? Most people didn't notice. Others thought it was weird, some thought it was cool. But I didn't really care what people though, it's just what felt good to me.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet? Not that clean. I remember my feet were sweaty one day and we were doing a project where we had to move around and there was footprints everywhere. The prof was, like "Where did these come from?" and everyone was just like, "Oh that's just Annie." They were pretty used to seeing me barefoot by the end of the semester.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot? Not that I know of.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)? Outside was even better than inside!

    8) How about making your way to and from school? No shoes :)

    1) How often did you do it?
    About 2 or 3 times a week.
    2) What kind of places did you do it?
Everywhere- parking lot, concrete paths, stairs, inside the corridors, the classrooms, lunch area, restrooms. Everywhere except the physics lab, closed toed shoes mandatory, hence the 2 or 3 times a week.
    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
Sometimes no. If the weather was nice nope! If it was supposed to rain/sleet then yes. Kept it in my bag.
    4) What did people think about it?
Nobody really commented cause it's college and everybody has an open mind.
    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
Floors were very clean, they took the dirt off my feet. But the parking structre in the morning got them dirty.
    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
Yes there were three other barefooters. A hippie guy and his hippe girlfriend - they always had dirty soles, then this average guy who always wore baggy pants to cover most of his feet, which were always clean, so you couldnt tell unless you knew what you were looking for.
    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
Yes outside is way better than inside on the carpet. The campus was mostly concrete paths connecting the buildings. Restrooms were extremely clean but I dont really care if I stepped on piss under the urinal or whatever.
    8) How about making your way to and from school?
I drove to and from school barefoot as well. Walked thru the parking lots or parking structure and thats where all of the dirt was.

Honestly, if your attending a college nobody cares what type of footwear you have on even if its none at all. Try it, just go for it, it's fun.

    1) How often did you do it?

I go barefoot any chance I get. It's mostly in the dorm, dorm's courtyard or the front steps. Rarely on the street, as there is too much to worry about.

    2) What kind of places did you do it?

In the dorm building, courtyard, on the front steps, back steps, on the street (rarely).

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?

A pair of shoes, boots and a pair of flipflops

    4) What did people think about it?

They think I'm weird and dirty, I don't care though.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?

In the building it's considerable clean. The front steps and the courtyard are dirty so my feet are clean/dirty depending where I go.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?

One kid who walks around the dorm barefoot, never outside.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?

Rarely outside. The bathrooms are clean, I still worry about bacteria though. So I've learned to use Germ-X.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?

I wear flipflops during nice weather and sneakers during the rain.

    1) How often did you do it?
    I do it every day

    2) What kind of places did you do it?
everywhere; my school is in the middle of town and you can wander around town in free lessons and breaks

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
I always have a pair of sandals in my bag to humour my mum and the teachers

    4) What did people think about it?
Some people think I'm bonkers, other people see it as my trademark

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
Not clean at all really, so the soles of my feet aren't pretty :p

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
    Nope; I'm the only one

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
Outside I always barefoot, but i wear flip flops to the toilets (our toilets are always disgusting)

    8) How about making your way to and from school?
I get a lift with my dad in the mornings, but i get a bus and walk home afterschool. This is all done barefoot :D

    1) How often did you do it?
A lot. I went to college in California, near the beach, so there was lots of good barefootin' weather.

    2) What kind of places did you do it?
Everywhere...classes, library, student union, and just walking around.

    3) Did you take footwear of any kind?
I usually had a pair of flipflops in my backpack, but sometimes I just left them at home.

    4) What did people think about it?
I don't really know. Most people didn't say anything, but the comments I did get were positive, like "awesome, man, barefootin' it!" Interestingly, all the comments came from girls. Guys never said a word. Of course, I worked for several years before going to college so I was a bit older than most of the undergrads and they might have felt weird saying anything. Either way, I didn't really care.

    5) How clean were the floors and hence how dirty were your feet?
Usually pretty dirty. They didn't always stay that way, since walking across a damp lawn or on wet concrete usually cleaned them up. Of course, the parking garages and roads got them pretty dirty regardless.

    6) Did anyone else ever barefoot?
A lot of people wore flipflops, and it wasn't too uncommon to see girls kick off their sandals and go barefoot in class or in the library, but there weren't too many guys who barefooted it like I did. There were a few, though, and there was one guy I used to see skateboarding around campus who I never saw with any kind of footwear. His soles were pretty black. Occasionally you'd see someone carrying their flips and barefooting.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets (restrooms)?
In a warm climate, outside was no big deal. Restrooms weren't usually too bad, but I never went barefoot in them until one day when I'd left my flips at home and had no choice. I realized it was no big deal, and never worried about it after that.

    8) How about making your way to and from school?
Since I lived off-campus, I drove to school most days and often did it barefoot. Sometimes I'd ride the bus for one reason or another, and it all depended on the driver. Some ignored it, and some got all weird about it. Sometimes they'd make me put my flips on to board the bus, but as soon as I sat down I'd take them off and stick them in my bag.

I used to go barefoot a couple times a week, except for the cold months. When you go to college, you'll find that some classes (chemistry & biology labs for me) require shoes, but otherwise barefooting is fairly acceptable. And you won't be alone. I went barefoot to and from class, in the library and in the cafeteria. Nobody really reacted to being barefoot. It's a college campus and people will tolerate just about everything. I tried to walk across campus on the grass when I could... much better than concrete. But my feet still got pretty dirty. Don't feel shy about it. You'll see other students going barefoot. I even had a teacher who taught class in her bare feet. :cheers2:

1)How often did you do it?
Around university campus all the time. At school a few times over the years.

    2) What kind of places did you do it? Lecture theatres, tutorial rooms, student unio building, library and cafeteria/shops.

3)Did you take footwear of any kind? Not usually.

4)What did people think about it? People generally ok as quite a few others did the same.Sometimes get comments like can't you feel the cold?. got more childish comments at school than at university.

5)How clean were floors and hence how dirty were your feet.? Floors were not that clean so generally had fairly dirty feet. Depended a lot on weather and also if played with frisbee on the grassed areas at lunchtime.

6)Did anyone else ever barefoot? At university quite a few especiaaly in summer. At school no except for gym class.

    7) How about places like outside or in the toilets(restrooms)? Went barefoot in all areas(including toilets) as did not take shoes.

8)How about making your way to and from school? Went barefoot either drove car towards end of my time or took bus and walked part of way.
