So yeah, 99% of Salons make shit dreads blah blah blah. But theres this one Salon in my state which doesnt The dont do back combing either, no wax, and if you rock up with wax, they dissolve it some how (possibly essential oils?) They use essential oils alot.... Anywho, I just thought it was about time we heard something positive... One of my friends got his dreads done there (I on the other hand got mine in my mums bedroom heheh) And his dreads are absolutely amazing! Theres a pic of me with him somewhere in my dread diary! The website to this Salon issss: http://weirdsistas.com/
hey ive never been against salon dreads tbh, im sure some salons can do great dreads and having wax added is personal preference. i think most ppl just find it hard to see why some people pay to have someone do what they can do for themselves, the wax comments they throw into thre arguments is just fuel for there fire. if you have the money then fair enough i wont hold it against you.
holy crap! i got my dreads at a place in WA called wildilocks. they backcombed heaps and fucked up my dreads (atleast i stopped them from using locks)... so i was very downn. then like a week later i went to weirdsistas and they completely fixed them now i always get maintenence there. theyre kick ass people who make awesome dreads.
I had my locks done by Karen Wallington... she truely is quite amazing. Some of her work is outstanding. www.knotjustdreads.com Based in Toronto, Ontario.
During my contemplation stage, Karen was my salon option. Not only did her online stuff look promising but I had talked to a woman who got her maintainence done there and had nothing but good things to say. I didn't end up going or doing my hair that way, but if you're in ON and want a good salon, she's it.
Hi wecarealot, This is Cass - I am the owner of Wildilocks, and occasionally look online for references to our salons. Mostly this is praise, but very rarely we have someone mention not having been pleased with our services - and I think this is the first time I've seen anyone not happy with our dreads! It is true, many salons use heavy wax - even melting stuff on which dries into the dread, far too heavy and uncomfortable IMHO. We stock and use only Knottyboy products and the overwhelming majority of our clients have been really happy with them and our work. Having said that - we often use NO wax at all, as many hair types do not need the "extra help" we consider wax to be, and we prefer dreads to form as naturally as possible, backcombing we have found to be the best method all round. Non-wax methods can be successful in the short term, and can look amazingly neat - the Thai style of dreadlocks looks very much like this, but tend to require a much heavier amount of maintenance. There are also some [mostly African] dread stylists who will sew dreads - also neat, but a method of last resort for us as we prefer to introduce no extra materials unless necessary [for dread extensions or to form very solid tips, or saving a dread which is about to fall off!] We have had many clients returning to us ever since we began 5 years ago [officially - I was wearing & doing dreads back in the early 1990's as I travelled the world!], and we recommend people only come back once or twice a year, as we give all clients tips and tricks to look after their dreads so they don't need excessive maintenance - we don't like to make clients too dependent on our services - we prefer to empower, unlike many salons who request clients come back every 4-8 weeks. I'm really sorry you felt unhappy with the methods we used, but I just wanted to explain that there are many different methods for dreads, and not one will be right for everyone - we have had some people prefer the really hard wax type, and we refer them to salons who do that type. What the world mostly needs - is more dreads everywhere, of all kinds! Cheers Cass
seeing the pictures on the wildilocks site, I think you should be happy you went to weirdsista's.. those look very bad.. especially the maintenance gheeheh
yikes id hafta agree didnt look at the weirdsistas cant get theyre gallery to load but if they refuse to use wax then id say theyre sdefinately a better choice
i dont understand why people go to salon to get dreads. I back combed mine by myself with just a normal black plastic comb. Even after that i pulled out the back combing so that my hair was just really tangled. Now after 3 weeks of no combing and washing my hair every 3 to 4 days i am noticing certain parts starting to combine. I did leave 2 back combed dreads in and now they are extremely skinny, but they are pretty tight. going to a salon kind of ruins the experience of watching your hair do what it does, kind of like watching a plant grow.
exactly from the seed shalll grow your roots ya can plow the ground or just scatter seeds but if ya hire a gardener are they really your roots?
I have been to all sorts of places for dreadlock maintenance in 3 different countries, including Wildilocks and all the places in Melbourne that claim to do dread maintenance, and I'm almost completely convinced 99 percent of people have NO IDEA what they're doing!! It's so frustrating when you're paying good money to endure excruciating pain while the hair is torn out of your head. Especially when this is completely unnecessary! I know this because while getting dread maintenance in Thailand it was COMPLETELY and ABSOLUTELY painless! And they did an amazing job too. If you don't believe me check out this video for example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGHANZrcfnQ The only people who have come close to having a technique as good as this are these guys. Check them out if you live in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia.. You won't regret it. http://www.************/profile.php?id=100000783906619 Still that doesn't do me much good now I'm living in Vancouver, Canada.. I just hope at least some of you so called "locticians" pull you're head out of your ass and learn how to do proper dread maintenance. Otherwise I guess I'll have to fly back to Thailand or Australia every time I need maintenance. Come on guys, watch however many video's you need but please learn how to do it properly. If you're hurting your client YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!
F*ck, the point is still being missed (Edit: not referring specifically to this thread) ... … if you f with your hair , then you have to keep f'ing with it. A maintained style needs to be continually maintained Man, I thought the real die-hard neglect folk on this forum were getting that point across. There is absolutely nothing positive about having a dread-head style 'made' Anyway, rants over ... Have a flippin fantastic w/end Dread-Heads! D
bullpoop Most people would rather be oxymorons. From the forest itself comes the handle for the axe. Chop 'em down, chop 'em down.
