one of my senators, jon tester [d-mt], has co-written an amendment to s.510, the food safety bill, that would exempt small farmers and farmers with local sales:

a good thing, imho, and opposed by the usual monopolists, american meat institute, national chicken council, etc.

to give small farmers a break, support farmer's markets and local food, write your senators and ask them to vote yes on the amendment

In an "emergency it puts all food under the control of Homeland Security and the DOD. They do such a good job feeling people up at the airport, and our wars go on forever, so yeah, why not let them mess up our food supply too.
It insists on compliance with the WTO, they have helped our economy so much in the past few years, so yeah, lets follow their laws, and not any from the USA.:bigcry:
It allows the government to bring international smuggling charges against anybody selling or trading food without an official license, just like they were doing cocaine or weed, yeah, that's really cool, lets go with that.:bomb:
It imposes Codex Alimentarus on the US food supply, so the UN can control the laws here and not the USA, hey, thats really cool, we can disband our congress and send them home, as we won't need them anymore. Let the Blue Helmets rule the streets, the UN has done such a good job world wide.:beatdeadhorse5:
It makes it illegal to save your own vegatable seeds year to year, now we can be busted for having our own tomato seeds, thats really cool.
It makes all farm animals get chipped, so the government can track them. We humans are probably next, so cool.
Oh yeah, it also eliminates organic farming, as the government will decree what kind of chemicals must be used on the crops farmers are growing.
Yeah, I agree, this is a GREAT bill, call your senators and insist that they vote for this wonderful piece of legislation.
Now, everybody please bend over, and kiss your #ss goodbye!

I always buy brown eggs because they're generally laid by hens here in New England, which means both the egg and money are ideally staying local.

Point being is, support your local farmers.

if everyone just grew their own food we wouldn't have outbreaks of crazy ass viruses that get spread from selling food to stores. And FUCK microchipping animals, never!

actually too, i should apologize for a fairly weak thread - i've been pretty much dead exhausted the last couple of days

saw that uncle jon was gonna help people i do volunteer work for, in essence, and got mildly excited

i admit that i have no idea whether or not the bill in its entirety is good or not, nor do i know what stage it's at, nor whether the amendment is in or not

no tv, no broadband, no sleep . . .

This amendment is good. But this bill overall is still bad. Its the most unconstitutional piece of nazi beurocratic piece of shit legislation I've ever read. When I learned it passed the house yesterday I almost cried. Is this really the work of a country I used to be proud to call home?

but this amendment is good, thanks for posting that.

    I agree

This bill is all about helping corporate farms by strangling out their smaller competitors.

The FDA can crash down in flames for all I care. There's still lots of unsanitary food in local markets they still approve of. Don't believe me? They approved bovine growth hormones. Enough said.

Local is local though. A local health problem with food doesn't create a potential national health disaster vs say tens of millions of eggs from a factory farm in Iowa that have been shipped to every state.

corporate/business control of america is nothing new

read about the railroads being given huge portions of land, and the role of big business interests in the native american genocide - in the 19th century [one of many examples]

personally i just ignore corporations as much as i can - by that, i mean, don't buy anything new, whenever possible, unless you can buy small, buy local

politically, support anything that allows one to continue buying small and local . . .

Well, we'll see. I thought the FDA had all the powers it already needed to examine our food for safety. It all seems like more paperwork, taxes in the form of licenseing, and more bureaucracy to choke out any real improvements. I hope you are right, but I sincerely have my doubts.
