how many of you think a person could stretch 250 to live on a week?

(includes: food, 75 going towards gas, and a couple of days of lodging at a hostel/whatever we can find)

gas will be your issue.. depends on how far ya wanna go i supposse, what kinda vehicle etc.

2 people can live on well under 50 bucks of food for a week.
    i know weve done it.

hostels for two people are gonna run ya around 25 bucks a night..

theres no need to stay in one more than once a week to bathe tho.

rest of the time camp in the national forests. (free)

sure 250 bucks a week,, would be more than enough for 2 people to live on a week..

I'm sure I can eat $15 plus dollars a day worth of food so that would be 250-75 gas - $100 food.........

$75 bucks - hostel fees left for EVERY other expense one incurs per week......

so if you didn't smoke cigs, do drugs, or need to buy any non-food items you would be ok :)

as the other poster said, if you were traveling with one more person who could match the $250 you could easily do it. It would cut gas in half, make buying food in bulk a better option and even opens up better sleeping accomodations. You could even split a hotel room for the same price as two hostel beds!

P.S. travel to cheap states if you really want to make it work!

15 bucks a day for food? wtf? ya eating steaks at every meal?

    or fast food?
for 15 bucks a day me old lady ,,"dilligaf" could feed 4 people 3 meals a day..

an the 75 bucks a week fer hostels? what ya gonna stay in them seven days a week?

if yer gonna spend that kinda money on a bed,, hell theres dive motels that are only 120 a week, split that between two people an its 30 bucks cheaper a week than stayin in a hostel ..

    man,, ....

i have nuthin left to type here at the moment..

    1. I don't have an "old lady" to cook for me
    2. I said $75 - (MINUS) hostel prices thank you!

You may want to read more critically before you criticize hippy

P.S. this person is talking about traveling not sitting in there living room with a full size refrigerator and an "old lady" to cook meals every day.

no shit ... i have done it though ,,, at nationals ,,, we spent about 45 bux on food n i fed four of us pretty much for 9 days on it,,,, and we had plenty of leftovers to share goodies with family......it takes a bit of ingenuity n imagination but on the road n travelling 15 a person in one day is alot of frikkin money... especially if you are tryin to conserve it ,,,

well if ya weren't criticizing in that last post you sure are now........
I'll excuse the fuck out of you when you read what i write before telling me I'm wrong. Yeah I've cooked over a fire before. I also had a large group i was with, coolers to store the food and ice that COST MONEY to keep it cold until cooking time and to keep the leftovers cold. My point being, one person traveling alone is not going to buy a meal for 4 people, cook it over a fire, and then keep the leftovers sitting on the dashboard of a car for days.....

P.S. its too bad your dead friend never learned how to spell difference correctly

an once again,, i dont feel im criticizing anything nor anyone by stating facts...

an diffrence,, is irrelevant in this conversation..

also please refraine from name calling,, or direct personall attacks,, both of wich are against forum guidelines..

    thank you luv n lite..

2 people.. = 500 a week.. (as she stated at the start of this thread)

she says they have a small car,, figuring gas at 2.50 cents a gallon, an her car gets 25 miles to the gallon. (we will assume the cars in perfect working order tires etc.. )

so say the each chip in 75 bucks a piece on gas..

thats 150 bucks gone an ya got 1500 miles of gas..

that leaves ya with 350 bucks..

so ya spend 100 bucks a week on food,, an say 50 a week tween the two of ya on a bed now an again in a hostel..

that leaves ya 200 fuckin bucks a week to play..

an if it was me an dilligaf,,hell wed easily have 300 a week to play in same said situation,,course we used to doin what we do.. luv n lite..

i get it...its lame. its trashy, and its of poor taste. while cooler then apple or aspen, its about as hip as the word Krunch.

P.S. enjoy eating dried food.....if thats your idea of ingenious then u guessed it....LAME.

as for you buthillbillybuddy....he was a dick to me for no reason other than his inability to read somebodies post with accuracy before taking an opposing stance based on misinformation. It wasn't even misinformation, it was the fact the jimmy joe is the kind of person that doesn't listen to people he merely waits for his turn to speak. thats what its all about with him. if he comes at me with wreckless abandon he gets it back tenfold PLAIN AND SIMPLE THATS THE WAY I ROLL. glad to see i have him using the word fuckin for no reason though "fuckin bucks" lame.....and oh i believe cursing is against forum guidlelines....tisk tisk.....LAME!!!!! While i never typed what i typed to get you worked up, its still fun to know how easy it happens :)

i respond with the same wreckless abandon your life partner did and you tell me to take a pill. good to know that the two of you don't like it when hickboys attitude comes right back at him. it really confirms that you have no idea who or why you're defending him and that as a person, he doesn't like himself either. Poor billyjimjoeraybob. I'd rather take a hike and steer clear of the likes of either of you. enjoy the forum, your lives, and a future full of dried fruit, jerky, and granola. I apologize for my abrasion (enjoy the ego stroke...do ya feel fuzzy and within forum guidelines? again lame). end communication

Excuse koopa, he is an idiot. He has proven that on many forums on hipforums. He goes into these forums, where people are asking for help and then he starts running his mouth. He hasn't the first clue about hippies, or anything ending in "ppy" Thanks koopa for the torrent of oral fecal expression, but no one is interested in the trash seeping out of your penis sucking hole....so thats enough shitkicker,go crawl to the windmill you came out of, you disillusioned, quivering, lazy, pile of yak semen.

Oh and btb, $15 a day on food is a lot, think about it, ramen is like 13 cents a piece, a loaf of bread is a dollar, a pack of lunch meat is a dollar. Canned food is really cheap. Biglots sells food,Sav-a-lot,Aldi's, Sams Club but you gotta have their card thing to get in. And lets not forget, Its hard to starve in the U.S. I mean, when is the last time you heard of the police finding someone dead on the streets from hunger? McDonalds will even give you free food if you can stand the embarrassment of people thinking your crazy for getting free food. (Don't ask when there are McD custys present, they won't even serve you in front of regular customers.) The only thing is gas and car insurance, insurance is lower with an rv but uses more gas, the opposite for a regular car. To give you an estimate we drove from central IL to southern IN in our rv and spent 150 dollars in gas. Thats not a very long trip but a ton of gas. Conversly, we went from southern IN to southern TN on only about 75 dollars in gas. Insurance for a fulltimer, (you have to get fulltimer insurance if you live in your rv.) is about 300 dollars a year, liberally. And about 4 times that for a car, and thats for someone with perfect driving history,(I am a young male driver, insurance for a male under 25 is very high, even with good driving history.) I tried to help you out as much as I could, hope something in there you will find useful.
    Peace,
Dale von dela the Big Smiling Bear and friends

sorry.. but thats pretty ignorant to think that people dont starve in the US.. not everyone has money and other things that make it easy to get food... starvation happens everywhere... even in the land of All-You-Can-Eat Buffets and Overindulgence...

but yea i agree with HHB... 500 for 2 people is more than enough to survive on for a week... hell.. you can have a great time on $500... get a semi decent cheap tent..40$.. sealent for the seems... 7$.. there... housing costs are taken care of... if ya want a cooler you can get a really good one for 30$.. that'll keep ice for 5 days... and then like HHB said... live off of dried meats.. fruits and nuts... granola.. what more do you need... all that.. bet it wont cost more than 120.. that leaves you 380 for gas and whatever else
