american beauty is definatley NOT one of their best albums, the grateful dead were a live jam band, not a studio band at all, for me at least.

and the reason i don't think you like them, is because you don't truely understand them, fuck not even i do all of the time, but i have an idea of what their talking about, you really have to think.

their a brilliant band to say the least, i admit i didnt like them either when i first downloaded friend of the devil, or saw the big deal about them, but now, i've grown to love them.

I think Ripple is a beautiful song but you didn't include the first verse which is very important (at least to me) cuz its like Jerry telling you the story and was very influential to me when I was young. American Beauty was one of their best albums. Almost every song is very soulful and heartfelt although I agree that they were best live and all the magic happened there.

To the people who talk smack: If you don't like The Grateful Dead thats cool. If you think they're overated thats cool.

I never said that the Dead were bad, I said they were overrated, and they are... they have a good 20 wonderful songs, but beyond that, they are repetative, and most of thier lyrics are weak.

I am a critic, and if the fact that I do not like the band you ideolize pisses you off, so be it, yet do not label me "closes minded" just because of it.

Would you do the same if someone would say "I do not like Britney Spears"? Hell, she also had her "chart hits"... so, would me not liking her still be closed minded.

This has nothing to do with any stereotypes such as "hippo", it is music...
