is stupid. all the under achievers get £50 if they act more focused in the next two weeks. yet, you can be clever and constantly get all A's and not get anything. like me.. i recently got moved up to the higher papers, and i get nothing. yet lazy fuckers get £50... wtf... i'm complaining tomorrow. it's not fair that they reward only some. :| anyone else have anything like this at highschool?
no, but thats the trend nowadays everywhere...just like everyone gets a MVP trophy in a sport at the end of a season. luckily i didn't grow up in times like that...my trophy's actually mean something. i know a few kids who get an MVP trophy even after not playing the whole season because he decided he didn't want to show up for games. rewarding the underachievers while not recognizing or giving the high achievers a reward for the work they do is not fair at all.
Yeah... I mean honestly I can see where it would be good to reward people for improvement. Maybe school work is more difficult for some of them and improvement shows they are trying harder. But I also think the people who consistently put force the effort should get the same reward.
how do you qualify as an underachiever anyways...a person with failing grades or person with average grades. whose to say you (katy) aren't underachieving? even though you do seem to work very hard
an underachiever in my school is somebody who is lazy, doesn't do much work, messes around a lot in lessons and their grades are lower than they should be/ getting lower.
That's hilariously idiot. The person who came up with that idea should have his brains examined and then eaten by crappy students... that might help.
Reeks of a desperate administration trying to make their school's stats look good. You guys got some standardized testing coming up or something?
when they all end up in prison for drug charges which stem from handouts like these you'll be making the big bucks and/or possibly still studying under a full scholarship
listen to this advice...you don't need to have a slice of cheese put in front of you to do well...you have the ability to motivate yourself to do well. keep on keeping on and strive to do better, you'll reap the rewards later in life
That is a ridiculous reward system. But I do think schools should have an incentive program (but a monetary one in absurd) to not only congratulate improvement but to also recognize those who consistently make high grades.
Kids need something to motivate them. The only reason I got decent grades and was in academic activities is because in the begining my mom and grandparents bribed me. Shit...at 25 they are still bribing me. It simulates the real world as well...you work hard you get a nice paycheck and perks. You don't work hard you have to deal with other people constantly giving you shit and don't get the nicer things in life. I know I wouldn't want to work if I didn't get a paycheck (ie-the cheese). I wouldn't be in school if a degree didn't benefit me monetarily.
i got/still get incentives and bribes from my parents too. never from school though. if a school is going to try to motivate students with incentives, then it should be for all the students...not the "under achievers." thats such a subjective term, even straight A students can be underachieving because the school they go to isn't equipped to push them far enough.
I agree in part. I don't think it should be for all students but just for the improved students and ones who had good grades to begin with. Not every child's parents care about school. Because of the culture here a lot of hispanic students are pressured to drop out by their families and instead work. So it's impoartant that schools have incentives here and everywhere, as I am sure there are familes like that everywhere.
that makes sense...that type of culture - where parents pressure kids to drop out and work - is not as prevalent here (boston) as it is out there - wouldn't say it doesn't happen here, but it doesn't happen as often, y'know. we get a lot of asian immigrants, and they push their kids hard in school. didn't think about that. good points
Bribing children with money isn't probably how I would go about trying to bring improvements but I do recognize that a lot of school systems only recognize children with high marks. People learn differently and some are smarter in some aspects then others. Some kids struggling in school have to work damn hard just to score "average" marks, whereas on the other hand some kids don't have to lift a hand at getting excellent scores, they just do. I think all school systems need to do away with grades. It's unfair to classify all children in 1 grading system. Really, what are they benefiting from it? Why not give them constructive critisism-something grads cannot do.
We've got something coming down the pipe here that's gonna introduce apprenticeship and large scale co-op programs for the folks like kinetic learners that are getting turned off of school by having to fit into the typical classroom that's patterned for auditory/visual learners or for folk who just aren't interested in the 'book learning' and are prone to drop out. One example from the past was a thing called Theater Graduation. Kids that had been prone to dropping out, or had already done so but really wanted to graduate got to do this theater program for a full year as their credits. From script writing, acting to production - they got taught how to make it all happen and then made it happen themselves. These are the kind of options that should be put out there as incentive and inspiration to the 'under achievers'. After all, why should we all strive to achieve the same thing and trying to make everyone do so just stiffle those that don't fit the mold. Don't get me wrong. I know there are lazy asshats, and there will always be lazy asshats young and old but I think we'd be surprized that these kids are more bored than lazy and with the right and healthy motivation, could excel in their own way
We used to have a similar program to that. We also had a lot of alternative schools that held classes out side (I love in socal) and didn't issue grades. However all high school seniors have to pass a compentecy tests prior to graduation now so unfortunatley alternative programs no longer exist.
This "reward system" usually works: http://www.zippyvideos.com/4965630165942786/southparkcureforadhd/
