hey anybody aware of any retreats or centers for meditation that you can go to to get some guidance or just get completely away from society and be along and undisturbed for a good length of time?
yes there are numerous meditation retreats within Australia, i know of 2 different lots of Buddhist retreats, and they are all free. Im lookiing into doing one, a two week course and it will be an amazing experience. Compassion within and without.

It is my unwavering goal to create a meditation retreat out in the back country of either Colorodo or Nebraska, or die trying, yet that probably will not be for four years til Ive received all the training to start a minimal maitanance self sustaining commune through natural building and permaculture techniques. Once established however the only problem is I could only offer retreat for buddist and maybe an open minded discussion of taoist principals. Yet at heart the taoist and buddist religiouns are quite parallel in philosophy, for I do not have an extensive knowledge of the ways of buddism. On another more current note I know there a Taoist monastary in Colorado yet I think it may be a bit more of an urban setting. _______________________________________________________________ Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of following my fancies as a butterfly, and was unconscious of my individuality as a man. Suddenly I awoke, and there I lay, myself again.. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming that I am a man. --Chuang-Tzu, 3rd century BC
The Lotus Garden Meditation Center Is here in Sacramento California. Its pretty cool, you can come stay with them and be a WOOF'er (Workers On Organic Farms). They are into Hare Krsna and Hinduism a lot, but I must say they aren't very pushy with their beliefs on other people. They make the BEST vegetarian meals i've ever had and know how to have a Kirtan as well. There is a WOOFer there right now from Minnesota. Its cool to meet people from different places like that. I met a guy there from Canada too - brushed up on my french a bit with him.
