So I know everybody dreams every night and its just whether we can actually remember them or not. I very rarely remember my dreams, I'd say maybe once a week, maybe less. When i do remember them though they are usually pretty crazy and intense and I really do enjoy them. I wish I could remember more of them. When I do remember them it almost always occurs in the morning right before I wake up. If it is in the middle of the night I almost always wake up immediatley after or during. I don't think I've ever remembered a dream without waking up like this. I don't know much about dreaming but I have heard there are factors that affect your dreams such as mood, food, marijuana, events in your life etc. So basically my question is does anybody know more about these factors and how they affect dreams and is there anything I can do that will enable me to remember more of my dreams? i find the topic of dreams very interesting and want to learn more about them.
I'm in the same boat.. I remember barely if any dreams these days. when I was younger I remembered a lot more, almost every night. But it's kind of just stopped. I kind of miss my dreams There are a lot of books and articles out there on dreams and more specifically how and why people remember dreams or not. I suggest going to a library or even google "remembering dreams" online and take a minute to look through the results. Those from psychology journals usually have the best information rather than news articles and such because they tend to only give you partial information. I'm always researching all parts of the mind and dreams interest me a lot too (I'm a psych major) especially since i stopped remembering mine. So i'll let you know if I find anything interesting out good luck in your search.
sometimes i don't remember dreams until later in the day or even days later. i'll wake up and remember it for a little while, then i'll forget and i'll do something later that reminds me of it and it just all comes rushing back. it's weird.
Definately, dreams are amazing and I even think that they hold potential for some type of discovery and exploration of self...simply amazing.
go to www.howstuffworks.com and look for dreams. it's very interesting. but the generality of what "the experts" think is the brain's nerves send messages to the wrong areas. like a hallucinogen- blocks certain receptors, so the information goes down the wrong path and intermingles with other thoughts. your brain pieces together the information later. another part of this is that the mind may not be actually recalling moving action memories, but more or less pictures of events. when you "remember" the dream, you're not recalling how you got up and walked to the fridge and the fridge was on the ceiling as a smooth action. you're remembering standing up, then a still image of being at the fridge, which is on the ceiling. your mind fills in the space between standing and being at the fridge as walking. I want to get into lucid dreaming- basically controling what you dream about. flying, sex, mining, anything. Quite difficult and supposedly impossible for some, although anything is achievable. Kyle
