Dizzy Man's thread about advertising brought this up for me. How many people refuse to wear brand names (on clothes or what not), and why or why not?

I feel dirty and used when I wear brand name clothes, especially major ones. It's like I'm paying to be an advertisement, like a walking bill-board. I won't pay to be some corporation's bitch! It's like an offense to my individuality.

Plus, it clashes with my style, lol! :D

Well contrary to what I put in the poll.. (I just liked the sound of that answer :p ) I mostly don't care, I like what I like. :D Though I will not wear Wal Mart clothes for damn sure. :D But anyway, it's about how the clothes look, not who made them.

I don't wear logo's, there are some things that can't be bought without a tag though, like jeans and most shoes. I buy what fits and any brand that does not flash their logo on the clothes so It's not so obvious. Oh and mostly second hand.

i look at the fabrics of wich the clothes are made off, the price and if i like them. they must be kotton or any other natural fabric, and if that is i dont really care if it is a brand. i do walk away from the really big brandnames but yeah well... i'm trying to sew and if that works better i go try to make my own clothes of natural fabrics.

oh and second hand clothing also, but also not with big names. i don't like to support them :)

ur not supporting them if it's 2nd hand, unless it's high in demand than tis better to leave it for some1 else.

I get my clothes used. I have so many criteria like size, ease of care, comfort that brand name ceases to be a priority.

Logos however bother me as they are not suitable for business attire. Found a nice shirt thought i could wear in the office, until I found the big, flaming logo on it, that made it not suitable for the office but for a teenager.

well you are maybe not financially supporting them, but if the mark is big and ca be seen by evryone you support them cause you make an sort of commercial for them i think...

I wear whats cheap and comfortable. If in find name brand at a yard sale or salvage store i will buy them of course, but i normally cut the tags off, just because i think its tacky.

I'm a student, hence I don't normally buy much big-brand stuff as money is an issue. I wouldn't say I avoid them, it's just not something that's important to me. Funnily enough I was walking through a car-park the other day and thinking that car companies charge you to advertise them, as all cars have logos/badges on them

hmmm...yeah, it seems like brand names might not matter as much as the price of the clothes. I wouldn't buy a jacket if it cost more than 20 bucks, but I would buy a gucchi bag if I needed it and saw a viable one at the goodwill (where everything is less than 20 dollars). And it's not really being cheap, it's just that what really might not matter is how the clothes look...a shirt is a shirt is a shirt--it protects you from the cold, the rain, the snow, the sun.

  13. I'm a bit of a communist. I try to buy really earthy second hand drab looking clothes because I don't want to belong to any subculture let alone mainstream. I don't get piercings, or tattoos either, or wear jewellery or headbands or the like. I've got nothing against cultural icons, I just want to avoid them at all costs because I feel like i'm betraying myself. I don't even get haircuts, I just let it grow or cut it myself. Its what i want, and i'll be damned if anyones gonna dictate to me. Hmmm, maybe i'm insane.

    Hello all..first post.

The only emphasis I place on name brand is when it comes to shoes...whether dress shoes or gym shoes. I cannot (for long periods of time) wear cheap shoes. My back will start bugging me and my feet will hurt. This is the only area of clothing I will splurge on..ie..$60 - $80. Thats for work.. I still do buy the occasional KMart, Target specials for knockarounds in footwear.

Other than that, I aint a slave to labels.

  17. Oner thing i will wear is tie dye or hippy shirts. Not because of culture, but because to me the patterns represent something spiritual - like the ebb and flow of nature.

I don't like stuff that other people think is "in." For one, it's more expensive. Another, it's not my style. I think it's kind of.. dumb.. to wear only name brands.

I like boot cut jeans and Ts. Band Ts, tie-dye, patterned button-up shirts with long sleeves that I leave completely unbuttoned.

ditto. I laugh at people who wear big logos...they pay lots of money to these companies to advertise them...shouldnt be the other way round? its just silly. i refuse to buy my clothes from big companies who pay 2 cents a piece to people in third world countries. Its unethical and it makes me sick.

i buy my clothes in second hand shops/charity shops not only cos money is an issue (it is) but also cos i dont see the point paying £20 for a shirt i could get for £2...i mean, a shirt is a shirt, and i usually find really cool stuff...its just a matter of originality and wanting to be unique.
