    Reflected Light

The words we read, the scripture we study
are nothing but ashes and dust.
Reflected light may show us the way,
but it isn't the source or the end.

The silent smiling Buddha points at the moon
like the moon points at the sun.

If only we'd look past the finger...

loved this one, Trippin! excellent word choice in this... for such a short piece it actually implies much more and took me on some tangents this afternoon; thanks for that!

Beautiful. I would have ended it differently, the line of the finger is a bit of a cliche.

Something like "the sun shines within."

I actually liked the finger part. I think the sun shines within is more cliche.

Thank you all for your comments. This one took me 4 days to write, for such a small poem. The idea was there, the words were not. I'm also not sure about the last line, but for now, I'll stick with it.

I think its ok to be cliche if that's how you feel....or maybe its because I'm cliche about 98% of the time.... :)

    As simple and profound
    as a flower,
    unfolding within.

    Concentrated and expansive work,
    with a great flow.
