--Could anyone help me find referances to marijuana in the bible? -Dose anyone know about the use of marijuana and its products around the times when Jesus was walkin around? -So far all I got is Gen 1:27 and forward. -He didnt waste any time did He!! -Rite there up FRONT!! Heh Heh ... -Dose anyone know any more weed referances in there?
Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." "Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good." - Genesis 1:11-13 I assume that was the passage that you were speaking of. However, that does not make any reference to getting high.
--Of corse not, God wouldnt be so irresponsible, it sounds to me as if He wanted us to use it responsibly. -But as far as I can see He said it rite there. -He gave us the Herbs of the land and saw it was VERRRRY good!
There are several different uses for marijuana. Sitting around with bloodshot eyes and laughing at every little thing isn't really being responsible. Cocaine is drawn from the leaves of a South American Cocoa bush. Would you consider someone high on coke responsible? Mind altering and responsible have no place in the same sentence.
--Not everyone is so simple that they "Sit aroun with bloodshot eyes and laughfs at every li'l thing". ---As I said, -I seems to me He wanted us to useit responsivley. -A fool picks his folly if he's not placed into it.
The ability to choose between right and wrong doesn't leave you because you are stoned. Depends on who it is. I have seen people who use cocaine in a responsible manner and people who do not. I think it really depends on the person who does the substance. Maybe for you. Someone who is responsible would recognize that sentence as bullshit, someone who is not responsible would accept it as the truth. It is true that some people cannot do drugs and behave in a responsible manner. It is also true that some irresponsible people do drugs. It is also true that there are people who do drugs and behave responsibly. It is also true that there are many, many people who do not do drugs and still behave in very irresponsible manners. It is also true that people use statements such as yours for an excuse to act in an irresponsible manner when they are on substances. A more responsible thing to say is "Mind altering substances do not belong in the hands of those who who use the substance as an excuse to behave irresponsibly or those who cannot behave responsibly while using the substance." For anyone who lacks a sense of responsibility- give them all the drugs they want....
"The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil." Which means all you stoners! Die hippie scum!!! I will zap you with my humboldt ray gun that I got at Cafe Beaujolais.
The ability to choose between right and wrong can be severly compromised under the influence of any mind altering substance whether it be medicinal, recreational, or other. Some medication comes with the warning label, "This drug may impair the ability to drive or operate heavy machinery." I have been on sleeping medication before that I took responsibly for rest, however, it would leave me in strange circumstances when it began to take effect. I was being responsible, yet, had no control over my perception. Who chooses whether or not someone is capable of acting responsibly? Let's say for instance someone decided to sit at home and do some cocaine. They are not planning on going out, just a night at home with some friends and some drugs. Then, after the substance begins to take an effect, someone decided they want to take a drive. Upon taking this drive, they are involved in a horrible car accident, killing innocent victims. They had planned on being, "responsible", by spending time with mind altering substances inside of their home, however, when the drugs took effect, it, ALTERED their perception. Hence the name, "mind altering drugs".
First, the warnings on some medicines regarding driving or machinery has to do with reaction time, not the ability to distinguish right from wrong Second, it should be up to the individual as to whether they choose to use a drug. Rather than have some government make the decision for me, I'd much prefer having an open environment for getting real information about a drug, it's effects and all that, then make my OWN decision. Anyways, no one has answered the threadstarter's question. If no one does by tomorrow morning, I'll look around online for a site I knew of that discussed these things. But I'm too tired right now.
We already have blatant disgregard for the government's status on illegal substances. People will continue to do them regardless of what laws are made. Leaving it up to an individual might sound nice in theory, but try appyling it to reality. Regardless if you believe you are being responsible or not, impared judgement can be fatal. A cell phone has been proven to slow down one's reaction time in a vehicle, let alone the effects of an illegal substance. You aren't going to find any references for God giving us the use of recreational drugs. You will only be finding someone's interpretation of how they feel drugs should be used. There are several passages about refraining from drunkeness. Wine is merely fermented grape juice. All natural..... just like marijuana. They both come from plants, yet, he has prohibited the indulgence of one. Do you really think he is for the other? They might be natural but they both have the power to impare.
-Thanks Trip! -Check it out! -I typed in "Marijuana in the Bible" and I came up with a bunch of info that makes it prety obvious that they smoked or smelt weed smells and it was these smells that "Were pleasing to God". --If I could ever help ya with my mind give me a pm, it looks like ya got it goin on pretty good tho ! ><>**^^~~ Hey Ephipany ! -If anyones smokin weed and its gettin between them and God, -theyr doin it wrong. -If anyones doin ANYTHING and its gettin between them and God, -theyr doin it wrong. -They need to either put it down or do it write. -But to say wine should be illegal because some folks use it irresponsivley woulnt be rite, would it? -Im shure you can see where Im going with this.. -The reasons for weed bein illeagal aint in the Bible, its in a polititians wallet. -They fight with the law. Churches thrust "morality" on ya. -I think that when they "Walked along in a cloud of smoke" and when "Smoke came out of their nostrils" it smelt real familiar! -I dont think The Lord's got a problem with weed, it was prolly so normal in the times of Christ that they didnt even make a big deal about it in the Bible, ya know they smoked it, how come they only had to give a warnin about drinkin alcohol? -Marijuanas clearly the better choice, what keeps it illegal is a huge EVIL conspiricy that involves everything from the paper we write on,the gas we burn in our cars and the plastics in your keyboard. -I think the church would fight these evils if fighting them didnt include legalizing a substance that might open up some minds to thoughts they might have never had. --Im not sayin that every Christian should light up rite now but Im saying that you oughtta at least know the real reason its illegal and the real reason its generally a considered sin against the church. -Trust Jusus, trust God, -but ya better check your church!
True, both have the power to impare, but they have the power to enhance also. Different parts of the mind are used more when affected. Mind altering does not necessarily mean mind-numbing. Reading and music are mind altering. They also impare you're ability to drive. Who's to judge who can listen to music responsibly enough to be trusted with a car stereo? People crash reading billboards. Don't just blame drugs for all the crap people do, they can be used responsibly and to the longterm benefit of the user. I doubt you've ever tried drugs (non-prescription) have you?
Well, I don't think anyone should drive distracted or impaired, be it cell phones, makeup, food, or being drunk or stoned. That's all irresponsible. As far as what I put in bold above, it would work, if these substances weren't so illegal that most of the info the users have about them are just whatever you hear on the street. It's not an open environment for understanding the true risks of a drug (usually overblown by propogana), or the benefits (often overblown by advocates of the drug). It leads to misunderstanding and irresponsible usage. By the way, alcolhol was not prohibited. One is told not to get smashed, drunkenness is prohibited. Clearly, like most societies, alcohol caused problems sometimes in ancient Israel, so they have laws about it. Note the lack of any mention about other drugs (you said it yourself), implying they had no problems with it. Yet we know opium and cannabis were both present in the area (based on archaeological finds, including samples of mummy tissue). If it was so bad, they would have made laws about it. Now, "drunkenness" may refer to all impairment from drugs, but there is no reason to suggest that.
Yeah. And the ability to choose between right and left. I have been wasted before, just so you know, and it's a great thing as long as you do it right. Wierd, ehh? I'd field this one out to God. Yup, a certain number of people behave irresponsibly while on drugs. And a certain number of people behave irresponsibly regardless of whether they are on drugs or not. And a certain number of people behave responsibly whether or not they are on drugs. I would say that a person who does a drug and knows it will make them act crazy is already irresponsible when they do the drug. Some people can do drugs and act responsibly. Some can't. Guess what- the people who can't aren't acting responsible when they take the drugs- they were never responsible.
I am not going to argue either way here, but i have often thought of an interesting observation. The earth was without weeds before the fall of man. It was perfect. (there was also no eating meat either!) When God cursed Eve, He told her that she would have pain in childbirth. When He cursed Adam, He said he would have to work for a living... against the weeds. Alot of the weeds are poisonous, in one way or another. getting itchy from poison oak or inhaling poisonous smoke (tobacco/marijuana) are both harmful. Could these things be the Creator's intentions for the human body? If so, they would have been put there at the beginning of creation when the vegetation was flawless, before the fall of man and the curse on the ground. So it's not about whether it makes you feel good or not. What if someone liked the feeling of scratching? should they rub poison oak on thier skin? It's harmful. And harming our bodies is what's wrong. just some thoughts.
---Marijuana is not toxic like the other drugs you mentioned, its also not a weed, its just an expression, marijuana is a herb. -ACTUALLY what it says about marijuana (In Gen 1 / 27 and forward) is that He made it and He "saw that it was good". --Now thats not just MY opinion, its rite there in the book! -If there were any actual "weeds" in my garden Id pullem out, mabey THATS what Adam had to work against, weeds from gettin in his Herb patch! -and Herbs NOT poisonis as you stated, -its NON TOXIC. -Personaly I think God wants us to smoke Weed. -Its GOOD for you! -I think that if ya actually weighed out its "goods" and "bads", youd find it leanin heavy on the good side if it even had anything on the bad side at all! -Anyhow.... -Thanks for yer input seahorse, but I aint buyin it ! -Im just lookin for "Referances to weed in the bible" anyhow.
I hate to tell you this but marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users inhale the unfiltered smoke deeply and hold it in their lungs as long as possible. Marijuana smoke can cause the same breathing problems that tobacco users experience, including bronchitis and emphysema. Heavy use of marijuana can affect male and female hormones, diminish or extinguish sexual pleasure, and cause a temporary loss in fertility. Among other symptoms, women may have irregular menstrual cycles, and young men may experience the delayed onset of puberty. Conducted animals studies have found that THC can damage the cells and tissues that help guard against disease. Marijuana smoke contains more cancer-causing agents than is found in tobacco smoke. Let's not forget that studies suggest marijuana use during pregnancy may result in premature and low birth weight babies who are at-risk of developing health problems, just as tabacco. Sorry, but that is not God's will.
