    shells shatter homes
    in which children live alone
on the other side of the world
    women surrender to be fed
to strange men in their beds
on the other side of the world
    people die of disease
    they discovered in defeat
on the other side of the world
    newborns slowly starve to death
    at their mother's empty breast
on the other side of the world
    orchestras play symphonies
    amidst the remaining violent debris
on the other side of the world
    planes fly packaged, purchased dreams
by the kilo over sparkling seas
from the other side of the world
    the residue of destruction
    trickles down into this din
here on this side of the world
we pay out to cover the shame
to hide the fact that we are the same
here on this side of the world
we employ the men in the spotlight
to "see us safely through the night"
here on this side of the world
but the fact of the matter is
any stone thrown could shatter this
this delicate side of the world
    the other side is persecuted
    for the history they stole
but we live in one world
and each small act of ours affects the whole
