I've been inspired by the New Zealand forum (seeing as us Aussies don't have an original thought in our heads, of course I had to steal a New Zealander's idea! :p ) to start up an Aussie Appreciation thread! So hurry up, post why you think we're such a great southern land!

    I'll start:

    - vegemite!
    - there is always a day above 30 degrees in at least one town even in the middle of July!
    - The little koala ladders you see in the middle of freeways, so they can cross to the other side. I've never seen a koala climbing one but they're soooo cute!
    - All the mediterranean and asian food
    - Hot Christmases
    - The Cat Empire!!!
    - We're just a stone's throw from New Zealand ;)

I think Radio National is brilliant.Actually the other ABC radio stations are pretty good.I can only easily receive RN and ABC Local I can pick up JJJ and ABC FM with an outdoor antenna.

Although Australia has a highly concentrated media, there are some good independant magazines such as Grass Roots, Earth Garden,Nexus,New Dawn, and Hard Evidence. When I was in the UK last year after some rummaging around I found a copy of Nexus in a W.H.Smith in Cardiff.

yeah the finn brothers are from new zealand. but like most new zealand bands, they end up comming over here...

    but split enz are good.

Australia is great coz i live here.

we have good beer and nice sheilas. what more could an aussie bloke want?

we have a tradition of good aussie rock bands - radio birdman, the easybeats, hoodoo gurus, the unspoken things...

I hope you dont mind me posting on this thread seeing as Im not from Australia, but I have visited your great nation and loved it! Sydney is a beautiful city (climbing the Sydney bridge at night is amazing!), looking at the stars in the outback is an indescribable event, kaolas/kangaroos/wallabees are awesome, and the people are extremely nice. Plus Tim-Tams (especially chilled) are delicious. :)
I hope to visit again soon.

thank god some of you are honest, lol :) ;) :p. (and ImaPeach - you should come back to the NZ forum sometime, we're not that bad, really...)

Actually, reading through the list - there's so much that we have in common with you guys - especially in the food department. Cadbury's, timtams, suasage rolls (i hate them, but they are such a convention) - they are all great NZ icons too.

Argh, maybe we are more alike than healthy rivalry would allow us to admit, lol.
