This works sooo good~ and most of you probably have all the stuff available right now so try it out !~ Get a BIG bowl of warm water, mix in about 3/4 c of baking soda, 8-9 drops of tea tree oil, 2 T of lemon juice, and 2T of salt stir until well dissolved. use a squirt bottle or something to apply to your scalp and soak all your dreads real well ~ wrap up in a towel and let them sit for like 1/2 an hour or so ~ then rinse( and rinse again ). Now I dunno if I just have really dirty dreadies or something but when I rinsed my hair the water was muddy brown ~ gross!~ It deep cleans the middle of the dread I guess. I do this like once a month now.(Aside from using regular shampoo) Let me know if you get the same results!
thanks for the great info....sounds like a great cleaning solution. probably work well for tightening dreadies as well huh?
Yeah That's why I added the salt~ I hear so much about the ocean being good for your hair to tighten up. Lemon juice too. I took a little bit of different suggestions I've heard over the years. Baking soda is for residue and tea tree for anti-fungal (Mold and dandruff)
Tried it last night. I didn't spray it on, i just kinda dumped it on, scratched all around. I suggest using a nail brush if you have scalp build up. You can feel it melting. So gross. It itched like hell in a few spots when I had it in the towel. I, too, had dingy water when I rinsed, only slightly dingy though, but I have only had dreads for 3 months. (It did leave gross white stuff in the tub drain though, glad that's not on my *head* any longer.) My scalp build up is gone now. It took care of it. Thanks!
YAYYY! I'm so glad you tried it and had good results! You're right ~ it does kinda melt the ickiness off your head~ dissinigrates the gunk. Leaves your hair smelling fresh and locks it up nice and tight. Yeah mine are 2+ yrs so I'm sure they're a little dirtier
Go get some tea tree! I strongly believe every dreddy should own some! All natural anti - fungal anti - bacterial~Just awesome stuff ~and it's the main ingredient in this recipe.I only use this once a month, then once a week I use regular shampoo.
awsome stuff! it worked so well and it made my dreadies smell even better than when i just shampoo thanks so much for sharing!
I didn't put the tea tree oil in mine because I hate how it smells, and it still cleaned my hair great. ALSO I bought some "Aloe Vera Juice" at the health food stoe and mixed it with water, probably 2 parts water, 1 part aloe. Sprayed it on my hair. It makes it really soft.
so i used the mixture this morning to wash my locks and i must say that i am very pleased with the results. i thought i kept my scalp and locks pretty clean, until i saw the color of the water after rinsing. damn was it cloudy, almost charcoal in color. i will use this from now on to deep clean my locks and scalp. very good and i would recommend it to anyone.
do you think the color is from dreaddie gunk or from the actual baking soda or concoction in general?
It's definately the gunk! The "concoction" is clear/white when it's mixed right before you put it on. The longer it sits on your dreads and gets to the middle of them the more dirt you get out of them.
it is definitly gunk. atfirst i didn't rinse good enough and was ringing out some locks and there was definitly klumps of "shit" all over the place. not sure if that was the baking soda or if my locks had that much gunk in them. reguardless the mixture works
thats awesome how she figured this out. thats the first time i have heard using baking soda. thats awesome man. peace~
thats amazing. i must try it...i'll feel like a whole new woman, haha. and i'll be quite grossed out too ;P
how much is pure tea tree oil? i will have to use this concoction on my dreads soon. ive only had dreads for a month but im sure there is some build up. thanks for the tip!
Thats wonderful cuz I just ran out of dread soup two days ago. I knew this guy that ordered a mad amount of dread soup and then cut his dreads off. I had many bottles of this stuff and have been lazy about finding something else to wash with and to be honest was little embarassed to ask. I'm gonna mix up a big batch in a day or so. Solution to my problem
thanks for the recipe mama! it was a lazy saturday so i ran to the store to get the ingridients & i just tried it out--yay! my dreadies feel really clean, and i'm about to blow them dry (i dry them like that so they don't mold/smell funky). i can't wait to sport my lovely locks tonight
oh p.s.-i added a few tablespoons of vinegar to the concoction--i don't really know why, but a friend told me she rinses her dreads with vinegar every month or so just to clean them a little more deeply, so yall might try that also
